Batten Down The Hatches (* * * Fresh Snow Warning Added * * *)

Useful little search on twitter - http://search.BANNED/search?q=#uksnow - just add the beginning of your postcode or the postcode of where you are going after the 'uksnow' bit in the search box, hit search and see if anyone has reported how much it is snowing there ;)

Doing a grand job Ian, I have never been so interested in the weather before, can never understand what they are going on about on TV, but yours makes sense :D

Thanks for your kind comments, Jimmy.
I've heard about this twitter thing and how it's catching on. I'll have to give that a spin, but it may be a while. After all, this post is being typed up by someone who's only just getting into Facebook! (Oh, it's soooooo 2008!). :D

It's snowing pretty heavily here in NE Herts as well which is surprising as it felt quite mild a couple of hours ago.

Ian, you make this so much more interesting and I'm really enjoying your work, keep it up!

It seems that there is a rain-snow boundary taking place as I type. Places like Herts, Oxford, Gloucs and Northants are getting the snow, but anything south of those areas are just getting the rain.
And it's not even the "main" weather that I've predicted for Monday night/Tuesday morning.
Thanks for your kind comments, Hacker. It's good to know that people do appreciate my stuff. Mind you, it's funny, really as the whole point of me joining up this forum is to show photos and seek out photo-related advice, but it seems that I have formed a niche of my own.
Nonetheless, I reckon this thread would disappear into obscurity if it wasn't for this interesting spell of winter weather. :D :D :suspect: :naughty:

Anyway, whatever the weather may be, you carry on taking real good care of yourselves.

Don't forget Bucks or the principality of MK :D

Get some up Ian I am sure we can re-pay the favour if you need help

I am always interested in the winter weather  Especially the wet or very windy to plan my ( weekend mostly) hawking trips around

You take it easy too young man

None here in Dorset, thank ****, got a couple of good gigs this week I don't wanna miss!

So what's the SP on this storm that's coming? Is it more snow or just wind and rain?

were getting quite a bit of snow here in Scunthorpe tonight

So far here there is barely enough to settle, fingers crossed its melted by the morning. I'm hoping the roads over the peaks are safe so at some point in the week so I can go and play cameras!

Good mornin' all you awakenin' souls. It does seem that my original weather map I issued a couple of days ago still stands.
But nonetheless, here's a quick recap of events that should unfold today.

As that depression system moves eastwards across South Wales and Southern England during the course of today (Monday), there is still the threat of snow on it's northern edge.
Areas most likely to be affected are: Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Befordshire, Northamptonshire, Hertsfordshire. It MAY start off as rain and sleet in a number of those places but chances are that it will turn back to snow.
When combined with strong winds, that will cause some drifting snow.
The snow MAY extend northwards to cover Worcestershire, Stafforshire, Cheshire Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Shropshire and Rutland but it all depends how far north that depression systems want to reach.
Most southern counties will expect rain and strong winds. However, there is a small thunderstorm risk by the end of the day for Sussex, Kent and Essex but only a small chance.

Have you noticed that any counties that ends with a "shire" seem to attract snow? :suspect: :D

As that low pressure system move away towards the near continent during tomorrow morning, it may well have the effect of bringing some snow down it's rear end to affect the south east.
Thus there is a risk of a couple of hours of moderate snow tomorrow morning for Hertfordshire, Surrey, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Surrey.

Then the rest of the week is looking set to be settled with more in the way of brighter weather and scattered wintry showers, but with frost continuing to be a regular occurance during night time. With that in mind, expect icy conditions on roads most mornings as it will be quite a while before any of that dampness will go away.

Whatever the weather may be, have a safe start to the week. :)

Areas most likely to be affected are: Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Befordshire, Northamptonshire, Hertsfordshir and Mid Wales. It MAY start off as rain and sleet in a number of those places but chances are that it will turn back to snow.
And what with a strong east wind, that will cause some drifting.
It is worth me pointing out that it looks like Mid Wales is going to get a LOT of snow today, so if you're a mid-Wales dweller, I'd make sure you've got some candles ready as there could be some power outages caused by wet snow and blizzard conditions being driven along in near-gale force winds. It's looking set to be very nasty over the hills of that particular region,

Thanks again Ian
Its been raining steadilly here all morning,
there is still about >3 inches of laying snow, though

Like others I am getting a bit fed up with this current cold spell, I struggle at times to keep the house warm due to the cold affecting the updraught of the chimneys, my stockpile of sea coal freezes solid, and it can also be hard splitting frozen logs.:(

There is no end to it on sight and IIRC it wasn't that long ago we had the warmest February on record.

Roll on the summer:)

Well after almost a day of rain, it turned to sleet as darkness fell. quickly turning to snow
And as You said previously, Ian, we are again, "getting hammered"

Nope its the white stuff for us Marc
cars & roads covered I bet we have had close to another 2 inches in about 5 hours
and there is about a 20mph wind blowing as well now

Snowing well in Northampton as well, after a day of rain, washed all the top snow off to uncover all the thick ice, now have a dangerous skating rink, being covered by a fresh snow storm ! its not good here ! lol

This is the view from my balcony now, and before anybody says the white balance is off, the lights are orange ! lol

Blimey no wonder you can see the Peregrines from there
Pretty much what it looks like here to, Ian ( minus the tower of course :D)
