Excellent take on the theme, but I think it is very over exposed and lacking a bit in composition, perhaps a tad too central :lol::lol::lol:

Great shot for "hidden" Colin, I agree with Dawn's crit but personally I'd have preferred a little more DOF :cuckoo:

OK I've done a shot for real this time.
Hidden in speed, hidden from the naked eye and hidden because I was shooting in a darkened room.

Not perfect, in fact there is a bit of ghosting in some of them because I was using two different flashes and the sync. at 1/128th wasn't quite right. So I made the collage to hide the imperfections. (hopefully)
 
Thanks Tina, the only one I was aware of giving more space was the top right as it was one of the better collisions. The top left shot just took me by surprise, it's not cropped to that height it just jumped higher than expected. Probably because I had just added a drop of washing up liquid to the vase.

I have wanted to do a shot like this/these for ages ... but just never got round-to-it......

I absolutely love the colours and formations you have shot and the whole montage works for me ... loads of action and keeps my eyes dancing ......

bottom left is fantastic send it to water company and ask them to use in there marketing you never know :thumbs: it looks like a idea s well brilliant :thumbs:

Many thanks Dawn. It had been a long time since I tried taking shots of drops (Last time September 09) Think my technique has improved in this time. And also a little help from an infrared photogate has meant a lot less wasted shots. Still need to perfect the setup but I was pleased with my vase in the sink and meat chopping board backdrop.

Thanks Michael, it's amazing some of the shapes that form and how they can be changed dramatically by adding a drop of washing up liquid or rinse aid.
 
Hi Colin, great water droplet shots. I had a go at this recently and didn't achieve anything nearly as good as this.

I like the collage and the single colour - it gives unity to the whole image. Some great shapes. The two right hand ones you have selected as larger images are brilliant. As you say you have lost a little sharpness, but still very good.

Have you ever tried double drop impacts? Thats something on my list for the future.

Love the shot... but i'd have gone for a simpler effect with just one of them rather than the montage!

But that's maybe just me... I'm just not a montage sorta person!

I love the purple background as its just a bit dif to the usual white ones. Its defo something I must try one day.

That was what I thought you meant and also why it confused me, all but the bottom three images are collisions.

Thankyou Mark, my initial intention was to choose the best of the bunch to show. Unfortunately the ghosting due to the different flashes was more noticeable that way. Had to clear things away to cook dinner so I went with what I had. Now that I have a better idea of setup and timing though it's a definite reshoot at some point.
 
Brilliant splash photography.

How big was the vessel of water? I've been wanting to try some splashes for a while. Tried with tropical but was a bit short on time to go shopping for a fish tank type thing.
 
Thanks Mark, I used a square vase about 4" purely to bring the height to the top of the kitchen sink so that I could shoot side on. The other advantage of a small surface area is less time waiting on still water before the next shot.

Love the background color & variations of collisions , can't see any imperfections ( so I'll take your word that there are some ) , bottom right is an absolute belter...well done you :clap:

Thanks very much Lynne. Think the biggest tip I can offer with splashes is to make sure you are in a darkened room. My shots all had a 1 second exposure so it was only the flash firing which had to be timed. With a mariotte syphon giving a steady drip you can use the sound of drips to time your flash firing.
Alternatively use a photogate timing device as I did which meant I most of my images taken were useable. Previously I could be getting only 5% useable.

Now some might think this image is in some way derogatory to Mrs Sprout. However I discussed my idea for this week with her and she was 100% behind it.
Well I think that was her conclusion, I kinda stopped listening after half an hour :nono:

I like it. You've avoided the temptation to be predictable and injected a sense of humour.

If I was being really picky, is the surface flat as there seems to be a small shadow at the bottom?

And, yes, I did Google the record....:whistling:

I really should have fixed that, even in pp. The paper in the bottom of my light box must be wrinkled, causing the shadows at the bottom. I'll re-edit at some point.
Any results on the google search? It's somewhat of a rarity.
