Bargains Thread

Isn't the hotshoe removable on the OM1? It was held on with a screw thread on my OM2. Alos, I reckon you'll have to hold out for an Ebay bargain to get an OM1n with new seals etc for £25-35. The prices for OM1/2 bodies seems have gone up a bit in the last 6 months.

Well how much is £25 worth to you as you can wait for that bargain to come along for say £20-£25 or have it now for £40-£50

and a so called bargain may not come up trumps as in condition....but it's a gamble i guess

Hey - I just asked if anyone sees a screaming deal to pass it on, there are dozens on ebay if I want it immediately.

A lot of assumptions being made. This is a bargain thread and bargains are, by nature, rare.

Where were you on the 19th dec as I posted this:-

This was worth a gamble as the two lenses are worth about £35 anyone get it?:- £38 plus £5 postage

Olympus OM1 manual SLR with;
Standard lens
Wide angle 28mm lens
Flash unit

Not used for 20 years but no known problems at time of last use.
No lens caps for some reason.
28mm lens case is in poor condition

Yeah, I never understand that with some sellers. Surely listing it on a site like Gumtree gets you interest from further than your own village so why then refuse to post? Wait until you have the money in your bank then send it.

Absolutely Steve.
Just wish that I knew somone in the Hemel Hempstead area!

They said someone was seeing it on Saturday anyway, so I'm sure they've got a buyer lined up.

Not surprised, it's a great price. I keep missing the bargains!

In King's Lynn:
"Praktica MTL 5B. Carl Zeiss 2.4/35 MC Lens. Pentacon Auto 1.8/50 Lens. MC S 1:3.5 F = 135 JENA DDR. Flash. and Bag. Purchased by me when new. Hardly used. £45"

If the blades are snappy on the 2 Carl Zeiss lenses, this is an absolute steal - especially for the 35mm. The 135mm is also a nice, compact portrait lens.

Also @stevelmx5 whilst I understand why sellers not posting can be frustrating, I sporadically flog stuff via Gumtree and refuse to post. That said, living in London means I feel like meeting in person shouldn't be that difficult since there's such a large market here.

H'mm the 35mm could be a flek and maybe the 135mm a Sonnar.

as you said the optics are great but on the mechanical side they are crude...plenty of sticky blades but the advantage is that they are easy to take apart to clean.......I have two sonnars and one flek and when not in use stop them down as if they stick there is more chance of freeing them than if left wide open.

Another potential Gumtree bargain, this time in Swindon.

The bargain isn't immediately obvious - the lesser known Canon FD stuff isn't as popular, and I'm not sure if there is actually a 50mm FD lens in that bundle (best to check with the seller). However, there is a Rolleiflex TLR hood, for some bizarre reason, in the case in picture #2. It's difficult to tell, but if it's a Bay 2 or Bay 3 TLR hood, you've already made your money back on the lot.

Also, the Nikon F4 seller in Hemel Hempstead has listed 2 more F4 bodies (along with a whole menagerie of Nikon gear), but at market rates. I wonder if someone tipped them off, or if they decided to re-check pricing?

How come these folk are never around me!

Sometimes it would be easier travelling 80 miles in the countryside than get across London from west to east...... even the ring road M25 is not reliable all the time. So people in the London area do have a problem and I pass on ebay buys etc (for collection) other than on my side of the city.

That's very true - the Hemel Hempstead one would've taken me more than an hour and a half each way, and would've cost a fair bit in train fares, which is partly why I gave it a miss. Unhelpfully, collection only eBay listings in London tend to just say "London, London GB" - which can be next door, or 15 miles away on the opposite side of the river...

Well Hemel Hempstead is driving distance from me and with bargains it's best to see the same day, and did consider buying the Nikon but had a rethink it that what would I use it for over the cameras I already have. And wouldn't get it for someone else as it's embarrassing if there was a fault that I didn't spot.

Pentax SFx in Warrington/Cheshire for £35 - the camera is worth basically nothing, but the SMC Pentax-F 50mm F1.7 mounted on it is worth £100+, looking at the last few sold on eBay. The lens has a chunky front filter on it, and the camera looks to have been stored in a snug case, so it's likely to be in good condition.

Surprised at that much for the 1.7; I'd have expected a 1.4 for that price... yes, £20-£30 looks more reasonable; higher prices are with more desirable camera as body cap!

They have full compatibility and autofocus on Pentax DSLRs, which is why they are more desirable.

Sorry FC, misread your post, I was thinking of one of the manual lenses...

The nomenclature of the Pentax primes are so similar, it's an easy mistake to make (if it was a manual lens, your point would indeed be right!).

Fair points. My problem tends to be if I push the search out too far it returns items in fife, as the crow flys not terribly far but realistically a long drive due to the geography. Also I'm not as fit as I was a couple of years ago so riding out to pick stuff up isn't so easy.

Has anyone ever replaced the mirror on an Olympus Pen FT? I've almost agreed to buy this one for the lens if nothing else but fancy getting it up and running.

https://www.gumtree.com/p/non-digital-cameras/olympus-pen-ft-spares-repairs-/1153085575

From what I've read, the mirror is semi-translucent for the meter to function but I'd be tempted to fit a plain mirror and ignore the meter.

Edit: Scrub that, changed my mind. Looks like too many issues with the body and the fungus in the lens may be too far gone to be any use. If anyone else fancies doing it up, the seller accepted £20 including postage so could probably make a profit on bits.

Nikon FG (silver), what looks to be a 50mm f/1.8 (capped in both pictures), a 3rd party f/2.8 telephoto of some sorts, and a Makinon 80-200mm f/4.5 MC Macro for £25 in Derbyshire. If the camera and 50mm are in good condition, and haggled down to £20, that's not too bad. There's also a Nikon MD-E motor drive and a period Nikon yellow and black strap.

Difficult to tell from the pictures, but the top plate of that FG certainly looks undamaged (only dirty).

Any one near Brighton (with a van and garage) fancy their own minilab?
