Ban's over

Clear as mud, as they turn off some street lights, around midnight, around here and I suspect that in other places too ;)

Here too.
Sadly doesn't legally alter the fact that the lights are there, I think.

according to the instructor on my speed awareness course, they said that the streetlight rule isn't really valid these days. Because of the number of speed limit changes that have taken place, councils can no longer afford to update, install or move lights. In either 30 or national limit areas, they don't have repeater signs, only the initial "gateway" sign.

If there were no repeater signs (either 30 or national speed limit) then it comes down to whether there were any street lights - from the sounds of it (backroad) then there wouldn't be lights so you're entitled to do 60

Don't really think that's correct. If you go past a 30 sign it's 30 limit until you see a sign saying otherwise, be that a 20, 40, 50 or national speed limit.

then you shouldn't be driving

if there's no signs/repeaters then the presence or absence of street lighting indicate if it is a 30 or NSL

Reread what I wrote, there's an error in your second sentence :-).

Passed my extended driving test today. Examiner was a pleasant chap and on the whole it was a much more pleasant experience than the first time - they are more friendly and pleasant. I was not an easy test and passed with 2 minor faults. Sorting car insurance and hello Glencoe, Skye, Loch Awe, Rannoch Moor and France this year.

And yes, lesson learned, I'll not drive like a prat and keep this licence.

Congratulations Steve :-)
I see you managed to bring the test forward too.
Result!

Excellent news! Well done, Steve! (n)

Presumably this means you'll be going out places and stop hanging round here all the time! ;) :p

Yes, about a week after our chat a new date came up, I didn't want to say anything. The indignity of failing it.

As it were I got 2 minors and wanted to get none but a pass is a pass

Ps...... Finally sold the old 4x4 and have dropped into a car again. Got fed up of 25mpg and do not really need a full on 4by anymore. I'll have to be careful though,'driving a car that actually accelerates and goes fast again.

Well done Steve, look forward to seeing more of you fantastic pictures (y)

I've been prepared for the test in a driving school corsa. Took the Volvo out, and actually held 60mph going up a hill on a rural road.

It's the little things ;)

Planning a landscape excursion for before work tomorrow. Buttermere looks good but a bit far...meh. Weather here is sh&t

Excellent news. No excuse not to come to the next meet :)

what'll you get if/when you get caught speeding next time ?

Well done. Passing the test is all that matters, passing it with just 2 minor faults though is excellent.

Well done by the way. Ignore the pathetic comments, I know you will see them for the meaningless pish that they are;)

I wanted none, personal pride thing- it can be done.

I got them for the signal cancelling and then not re applying it quickly enough and for driving too far forward to do the reverse around the corner, chap reckoned I should have parked a bit closer to the bend.

In saying that, in this test they don't judge you to a high standard, as long as you're safe you pass. But dcw, town and city driving feature heavily, you have to make progress and be safe. I took a few lessons with a local instructor, and the tuition was great and a good exercise. Certain things I'd forgotten etc

For a minor infringement a FPN I'd imagine. Were I to do something more fruity I imagine a previous dd40 would make sentencing harsher. But that won't happen.

A few might try shoot me in the face...

It's a dump. Dunotter castle at sunrise I could be persuaded to go to or even if you head over glencoe way, you're cars better than mine.

I know I would. I prefer people to animals and landscape. Much more interesting in my opinion. Yup definitely shoot you in the face :)

Well done on passing :)

Just thinking, when you get banned and have to do a re test. Do you get treated as a learner, and drive with L plates all over again ?

Depends, if it is a good one I might :)

Definitely will post it online and look smug with my capture.

Yes. And you get an extended retest, not the normal test. Its twice as long.
It will be harder to pass then, as there is more time to make mistakes. I must admit I have been banned twice many many years ago, but I got my Licence back after the bans. I would hate to mess about, having to go for a test again.
