Ban's over

Just a thought, and might not be feasible, but have you considered travelling elsewhere for the test?
What, like Germany?

"Wie komme ich am besten zum autobahn?" :naughty:

Yep, it was your NCB I was alluding to. (y)

I just wondered if it was worth trying to get an earlier test in another area, just in case.[/QUOTE]

Instructor seemed to want to use this centre but I will raise it. TBH I am ok with waiting, whilst I am keen, there is no massive pressing rush. The spring, Autunmn and winter is when I like my photorgepahy outings and I will be sorted by then.

(presumably you can't book 2 tests in advance?)

No. Sadly.

The compulsory number of hours in theory classes outnumber the compulsory number of driving lessons in Germany!!
But I do like the way the driving is broken down into different types and not just driving on small local roads in good weather and broad daylight.

That makes sense to me - at least means you have a clue before going anywhere near an actual road. I think you should need to take the theory test before you get a provisional license.
A competent instructor should minimise the risk to other road users, but plenty of people learn with "instruction" from friends and family who are often barely in control of the vehicle as a driver, let alone as a passenger without dual controls.

The DSA are currently discussing that very thing, in terms of change.

Amazing how a forum can have 5 pages celebrating your dangerous driving, yet I make one comment in relation to it and it gets deleted. :arghh:

No we are celebrating a reformed character,
Rather like at a funeral, you celebrate the life of, not the death of.
Besides, Steve did the crime and he's (nearly) done the time

I deleted it because it was totally irrelevant to the thread.

Personally, i don't give a monkeys about his reformed driving as he hasn't had a chance to prove that. His behaviour here is the same as usual though, proven in the 6 bullets thread.

Oh, the ironing. I must go do that rather than think of any positive contributions to the forum.

Voicing an opinion and asking a question I am entitled to have. It may be different to your view, but hey, thats life.
It's the same opinion regardless of the topic. Why do you think we need to read it regardless of the subject matter?

What opinion is that, other than that of my own?

Do you know where the word "forum" actually comes from?

Why do you think we need to read your opinion regardless of the subject matter?

Like I said, I have ironing to do. My employer doesn't like me driving his vehicle in creased shirts and I don't want to be accused of derailing the thread, do i.

Posting comments in one thread from another which are totally irrelevant, is classed as trolling.
I suggest you think about that for a bit.
Not interested in joining in? then stay away.
Thanks (y)

Didn't need to think about it, I knew exactly what I was doing (NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT HERE .... NO ONE IS GETTING HURT!) and it wasn't trolling. Irony klaxons, hypocrisy sirens, cliche drills, there all out today.

Not that anyone is interested, but surely referring to ST4 racing his own shadow is not trolling? I call it cross thread humour, but if it doesn't include the words Jaffa and Cake, then humour just go over some people's heads. I might as well mull this over for a while, as I sit in the WAAAAAAMBULANCE

Mod edit
As Neil cannot reply to that, I've removed it ;)
Ooooh, but I have :D

And that's the bit that worries me.
Still I won't have to worry about you posting in this thread again.

Well I just got my first 3 points after 27 years of driving. I was doing 40 in a 30 zone. No houses near, on an open backroad. Sat nav stated it was a 60 zone and I had just pulled away after texting the wife.Police said it hadn't been a 60 for 1.5 years- teach me not to update my sat nav- even let the police see it on the sat nav and I had my speeding alerts activated to warn me of going over the limit as I'm usually careful but with it thinking it was a 60 zone then the alert wouldn't come on till I was near 65mph. £100 fine and 3 points- not happy at all.

It appears that my ban from this thread is over.

That seems to be a favourite these days, dropping the limit for no reason ;)
Bad luck on getting caught.

Yes it was just a temporary one, but you will have to take a re-test or at least be on probation for awhile

:D

I was speeding according to the law no matter how harsh i think it is so will need to just accept it. Sat nav needs updated or new sat nav. Nearest 30mph sign was 1/2 mile away in the small town but as pointed out by the police was that there was no national speed limit sign either(60mph). They were parked up a small lane with just a speed gun sticking out and tgey were hidden until they got the data then the man stepped out- should have run him over.

Agreed, what is it they say, no knowledge is no excuse, ( or something)

but hiding like that must be viable else they wouldn't do it would they ;)

If there were no repeater signs (either 30 or national speed limit) then it comes down to whether there were any street lights - from the sounds of it (backroad) then there wouldn't be lights so you're entitled to do 60

Only needs to be three or more streetlights and it's 30mph limit

...or so they said on my speed awareness course...:D

Thats changed then it always was every 100 yards. And thats how you could tell IF there were no speed signs
Its good the way the odds are stacked ever increasingly in their favour ;)

From 2006 according to good old Wiki...:D

Legal definition

In August 2006, the Department for Transport issued new guidance relating to speed limits. It states that:[1]

Section 82(1)(a) (of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (RTRA 1984)) defines a restricted road in England and Wales as a road which is provided with “a system of street lighting furnished by means of lamps placed not more than 200 yards apart”. Section 81 specifically makes it an offence for a person to drive a motor vehicle at a speed of more than 30 mph on a restricted road.

"Street lighting" is further defined as follows:

As set out in paragraph 45, it is generally recognised that a ‘system’ of street lighting could be three or more lamps spaced not more than 183 metres apart. However, street lighting (for the purposes of determining whether or not a road is a restricted) is not necessarily limited to street lamps, but may extend to lighting provided by authorities or parish councils.

To avoid confusion that could arise if some 30 mph zones were 'street-lit' and some were not, DfT guidance goes onto say:

Direction 11 of The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 (TSRGD 2002) defines the requirements for the placing of speed-limit repeater signs. This states that speed-limit repeater signs cannot be placed along a road on which there is carriageway lighting not more than 183 metres apart and which is subject to a 30 mph speed limit. The Department will not make exceptions to this rule.

This leads to the conclusion that:

This means it should be assumed that, unless an order has been made and the road is signed to the contrary, a 30 mph speed limit applies where there are three or more lamps throwing light on the carriageway and placed not more than 183 metres apart.

Edit...I have no idea why it is in bold, and I CBA to change it!

Nearly got caught out myself, just rememberer the road I was on dropped to a 20mph. Noticed a Traffic car behind me, and I checked my speed in time :)

Clear as mud, as they turn off some street lights, around midnight, around here and I suspect that in other places too ;)

Speed limits are usually reduced at the request/ insistence of the local people, who then moan when they get caught :)
