Ban's over

Was the road empty when you did that speed, you know, night or early hours?

@ST4

How'd it go?

Will he know the result yet?
I was one of the first to do the theory test and it was something like a 3 day wait for it to be marked . . . not sure if it's more or less instant these days though

I believe the theory / hazard is instant now.

I did my theory test in 1996 and got the result within 10 minutes IIRC.

No. d3. I have no need or want of a powerful and uneconomical car. Just a spacious quiet and comfortable one.
A front wheel drive diesel quiet? Man you are loosing it. You are no fun.

Its very big and well sound proofed. Its very quiet, Merc and BMW quiet.

Anyway. Went out with a local instructor today. He said that I have much less bad habits than normal and I should book a test immediately and I should pass no bother. Weird doing reversing round the corner, 3 point turns again. Problem is getting a date. The DVLA website doesn't give you a list of available times/dates. I'd ended up going for a test on hold hoping a cancellation will come up. This I sense will be a drag.

Steve, how come the DVSA booking system isn't offering dates? Not even ones a number of weeks away?
Forgive me. We book quite a few on behalf of pupils, and have never come across that before.
Is it different in Scotland?

You click on a date it says no tests available, on another and it says the same. And another and another. I've tried all July, August. Mines an extended test mind you. I've popped myself into test hold and they'll find me one

You'll just have to wait until January :)

Ah now I see...yes, it'll be the extended time slot required :(

A cancellation will raise it's head :-)

Is this really ST4? Way too chilled for my liking. I want the old one back.

There's nothing I can do. I've popped myself into their hands. A cancellation or slot will come up. They've got my £124. They'll want to keep it rather than refund it so they'll find a test. It's not like I'll never drive again.

It'll work out fine in the end. The interim will be a drag but I'll live. An old friends on chemo, another redundant and job hunting to little avail, in the scheme of life my issues are nothing compared to theirs.

Surely worth a shot in the knees? Or not even that?

Yup that is definitely not you using that account. Definitely not.

I just realised I 'liked' this post because I admired the outlook. But then it looked like I 'liked' it because some people were having a hard time:mad:
It'll come soon enough Steve. :)

It'll come round soon enough. But In The meanwhile who are you and what have you done with Steve?

The new ST4 would have taken it with the positive intentions :)

Got a test date. Bloody September. Tried to get an earlier one online but cannot. Then I got an email saying you need to call up to try get earlier extended tests, so I will do that on Monday.

Tbh I'm ok with waiting. So long as I'm mobile for autumn and winter when the landscapes get prettier I'm fine.

Its a ridiculous amount of time to wait IMO,
but at least you have a date now

Well I'm glad you've at least got a date, even if it's a bit of a wait.
I'm told it's because though the test is extended, it's not as long as 2 standard tests, so they hate allocating the time to them...how petty is that!
Hopefully a soon slot will become available :-)

That sounds just the thing....its not a service driven based industry the dvla etc. They have no competition. Imagine your bank telling you to wait 2 months for a mortage appointing as it takes up the 2 slots of a current account meeting but the meeting isn't quite as long as the meeting for a current account and they thus hate mortgage meetings

Well, you'd just go elsewhere for a mortgage. Can't do that with driving licences.

Just a thought, and might not be feasible, but have you considered travelling elsewhere for the test?

Yes, its not impossible. But I am using the driving school car and the instructor is extremely keen I use this test centre as he knows the routes for the test although I'll be having that chat with him.

Plus the test they gave me, I am off work that day anyway so it just works, time is good so tempted just to stick with it.

Ahh OK...fair do's. They do like to stay local

Presumably that is well within the 2 yrs needed?

Hopefully you will sail through no probs, BUT, if something went wrong (failed, or maybe examiners on strike.....) would you manage to re-take/re-book in time?

It's within the 2yrs needed to pass and keep my NCB. I'll try get one sooner too.

If not and I fail it's not foreseeable I'll get one within the 2yr period I've held motor insurance. It will pay a lot more to insure my car, but I can afford to and I've set aside the funds to cover that eventuality.

Yep, it was your NCB I was alluding to. (y)

I just wondered if it was worth trying to get an earlier test in another area, just in case.

(presumably you can't book 2 tests in advance?)
