Ban's over

Slight difference though as it was not just a straight ban, you were banned and also ordered to re-take your test - This means that you would be classed as a new driver

Never heard of having to take your test again - is it Bike or car?

Yes, but because I have held motor insurance in the last 2yrs the NCD applies once I've passed the test. I've spoken to several insurers about this on the phone just to verify what seemingly seemed cheap quotes.

Good luck with the retest
I know how I would feel if I couldn't get out and about with the camera must have been frustrating

I am still intrigued, what did you do for the ban and how long was the ban?
I answered that on post 30
About 180 mph ;)
And his biggest mistake was braking the 11th commandment,
"Thou shall not get caught" :D
Although in reality as the subsequent posts pointed out it was circa 138mph.

So he did 138
and did get caught ;)

so your "speedo" was probably showing 150mph +

I do that occassionally .............. ......... on the French Autoroutes ...................................... but in kph
by mistake I hasten to add

at that speed, 150mph, in France they would take your car away and probably auction it off and you may have ended up spending the night behind bars at least

Just some useful info if you drive in France ........ they have tightened up a lot in the past couple of years ....... on every road
"
More than 50kph over limit (31mph-plus) in France

€750 (£600) court deposit and car impounded. This is followed by a court case. If the motorist is deemed to have been driving dangerously, their car can be permanently confiscated. The court can retain the deposit and increase the fine to €1,500, or €3,000 for repeat offenders.

"

Top tip from JC: if you are going to break the speed limit, make sure you’re not in France.

And this weekend in particular they will be on the lookout for speeding cars with UK plates ;)

The speedometer did not read 150mph plus but 140mph. Given the speed gun reading of 138mph at least I can say Mercedes speedometers are reasonably accurate.

An over read of 2mph is acceptable, 12mph isn't. The rpm reading of the car was indicating giving it's gearing a speed of around 140mph not 150mph

Quite easy to measure the accuracy using GPS based devices, plus other ways. I know my vehicle speedo under reads by 3mph at the top end of it's capabilities

I know someone who did 142 in a Merc and he says that both the speedo and satnav were showing exactly the same figure, so yes, Merc speedo's are pretty good.

He was on a track though...

Yeah mines been verified at high speed on runways and at Bruntingthorpe. GPS and timing equipment on the runs

How has the ban affected your car insurance, Steve ?

It took 3 x speed related driving bans for me to finally learn my lesson! The 2nd time in court was embarrassing, the 3rd I might as well have killed someone... They didn't throw the book at me, they catapulted it to my head. Never doing that again.

It's not made it cheaper, but its not made it so expensive that I cannot afford to insure my car. Its maybe gone up 20%

I thought the increase would have been very much more than that.

I think, perhaps, that drink driving offences result in vastly increased insurance premiums.

My Mercedes speedo reads 2mph faster than my TomTom at 70mph, but I think that is acceptable.

That just shows the inaccuracy of a TomTom :P

@ST4 Does it mean that your points still stand as well? Surely that is what will be bumping up the insurance...

You'll p*** it Steve and you can drive up here and buy me that soda water and lime. Good luck!!

I got no points on this one and the others have dropped off.
No points? I thought you got banned for speeding, didn't you get any points for that?

Straight ban JP...no points associated.

Anyway ST4 enough of all this detailed chat, this is a photography forum so where's the photo of your new set of wheels! :D

I thought you didn't like dogs. If you have a Volvo, it's mandatory you have to own a dog too.
We have a Volvo V40 and we do own a dog, I much preferred our kia ceed estate though :)

Is it the S80 T6 :) ?
