Bad dog owner

We don't know the circumstances of this incident. Did the dog dash out from under the owner's chair and bite the child or did the child get too close to the dog and then it bit?

We don't know on which beach/part of the beach this happened. The Skegness.net site says -

“Dogs are banned from the busiest part of Skegness beach between 1 May and 30 September.”

The report in the Linclonshire Echo includes -

“Police are taking this opportunity to remind dog owners that dogs must be kept on a lead on the beach”

which suggests it happened in an area where dogs are allowed.

Although the report says the dog was not on a lead we only have one side of the story, though from the photo it doesn't appear to be on a lead.

However, I feel this is an example of an irresponsible dog owner. The photo shows a very busy beach which I think is not the ideal place for a dog. Sticking it under a chair is also not great. Yes, it keeps the dog out of the sun but it is going to get bored/frustrated – outside but not able to have a run about and a good sniff at everything.

It is sad that a child has been hurt and also that, should the owner be found, there is a risk that the dog will be put down when the fault appears to rest with at least one of the humans involved.

Dave

Which is all well and good, but the photo also clearly places the woman and her dog on the main part of the beach, close to both the funfair and what little remains of the pier, which is, as the article says, close to Grand Parade.

I'm a dog lover, but lead or no lead, the dog should not have been on the beach at all.

Its a pity more people don't have your attitude - I have 2 Golden Retrievers who'd lick you to death but i'm always wary around kids as I don't want to scare them or put the dogs in a difficult situation

The trouble with smaller dogs is they always seem to be the noisiest, or yappy. Bigger dogs like Labradors are friendly, but then they do sometimes get excited and have a bit of weight behind them, so I'm always careful.

Not all of them just as not all small dogs are nasty yappy snappy things, all types of dogs can be friendly or otherwise

How about, the dogs are what the owners make them to be. In my limited experience they are totally loyal and await your every guidance and direction.

Apart from the little bloody yappy things :D

TBH I think rather than vilify the woman, and persecute the dog.
We need to get at the grass roots of this,

BAN DECK CHAIRS, she wouldn't have been sitting there and the dog couldn't have hid under it.

;)

That and a few other equally important issues will all be in my election campaign manifesto (y)

Or how about ban people without dogs from the beach. It will be much more fun, dogs of the lead, swimming, doing their shaky shaky. None of the boring and awful dog haters.

Best argument I've heard so far to pursue my nationalisation and gain British Citizen ship status. I vote for you, and will handsomely donate to the campaign as long as a peerage is in the offering ;)

Don't get me started on immigration / nationalisation :p

Hehehe :p just think of the £900 I have to pay in addition to the taxes I already pay/avoid. The funny thing is that I passed the test and my wife who is English and a British Citizen failed :)

TBH it doesn't really surprise me, if you've been swatting you probably know more irrelevant s***, than "us" Brits

Swatting? I had to look that up and no I've not knifed anyone :(

Hmmm that confused me so I googled it.
Seems the meaning has changed over the years, you swat up for an exam (Swatting) AKA cramming, studying.
A Swat was always someone at school that was ridiculed for not joining in the fun, but always had their nose in a book.

No need to thank me, you can pay me when I drop by and give you your cockney rhyming slang lesson
Me ole China (y)

Have you met a jack Russell? Not approaching it is the least of your concerns. When those little things aren't in the lead they yak, try to bark, run around, jump up. Just can't stand the breed. My dog always looks at them like they've got some mental problems.

But simply, the woman should have kept it under control, I.e. on the lead, no excuses. And further more given her details. Shame on her. I like it how her picture has been published.

Tell @Yv that. It'll be funny

I did mine without any study :P

@boyfalldown did you just suggest that @Yv goes round trying to bark, run around, and jumping up? You very brave and dare I say silly boy :P

Pssst . . . Google "swotting" instead and you'll get the definition you were expecting ;)

But give us all a bit of warning before you do so that we can stock up on popcorn :)

The old nature versus nurture argument ;)
But for the most part I would agree

There is a beach near me where that is almost the case, if you are away from the dog free zone it is assumed you are ok with free running dogs enjoying themselves,
if you aren't you stay in the bit near the car park where dogs have to be kept on leads and off the beach at certain times.
Great place it was even open during the foot and mouth epidemic

A reasoned, insightful and thought out reply? You are aware this is Out of Focus are you? ;)

Sorry Keith, I had forgotten where I was - We must find this rabid nothern dog

I agree completely Ruth. That beach was no place for a dog. I'm tempted to think it was the owner wanting her pleasure without considering what the dog needed.

Our Fell Terrier is the friendliest, softest animal with people he knows but it takes a couple of meetings before he is happy, so we have to control how he meets new people. He has never had a go at any one but I can imagine in a situation such as busy beach he would freak and things could turn nasty.

No No No, you're not thinking this through.

Where do you abandon the Mother in Law when you've been forced to take her on a day out?

thinking about it and that photo reminded me ,i have seen lots of dogs on british beaches , some of them even dare to wear bikinis ,. in the case of this one i feel the TP jury has run out of steam ,perhaps we should look it up on FB to see if the vicious dog has been caught and killed by the gooders yet .

on another note does anyone know if there are any beaches where cyclists are banned ,as i hate it when they race along through the surf disturbing my view .

Most often accompanied by their British Bulldog companions, who themselves are sporting the traditional beer gut overhang and arse crack rear extension.

The only time I have ever been bitten by a dog was by a black lab!

put it down to tiredness and the onset of man flu. :D

Mines long since dead, and no longer an "ex" MIL. anyway
But I take your point for the rest of you poor souls ;)

So, referring back to @the black fox post, it was the men wearing the bikinis? Yikes Pete, if that's the way you guys roll in Devon, fair play to you!
I'm sure no one here will judge.

I was tending to think black fox was referring to the daughters where i was referring to the mothers and mother in laws
