Awful end to the afternoon

Coming home from work was hard, no 4 legged mate to jump up and greet.... Handling it well?... Not at all :(

That's one of the hardest parts.
After our 2nd dog went we swore that we'd never do it again . . . it's just too painful when you have to say goodbye to them.

But the house wasn't the same without a dog and walking into an empty house after work was terrible . . . We ended up getting another rescue dog 6 weeks after we lost Ebony.
She'll never replace either of the two that we lost, but she's her own character and loved just as much for being who she is.

Thanks Colin and Daryl look at it as good news as progress is being made.. Find the cause will mean finding the solution... Best wishes.

Awww Martyn. I just got home from work, and as promised, hubs has placed "all things dog" in the loft. Just couldn't keep looking at the empty bed :(

Sarah we've said we'll rescue another dog, but want to wait until the warmer weather. We'll see how long that lasts.

I asked my husband to put her bed and toys etc in the loft whilst I was at work...Just looking that the bed was making me cry. Now the damn lounge looks too big, and the dining room no longer looks like there was a toddler in the house (she has a lot of toys!). I missed her big slobbery welcome home.

I just miss her. :'

I rearranged the living room after Ebony died.
Couldn't stand walking into the room and looking at "her spot" on the sofa and expecting to see her there :(

You won't regret it.
Both of you need time to grieve for the ones you've lost, but when the time's right there's nothing more rewarding than giving a home to a dog in need of one.

Just posted in Martyn's thread, but I understand exactly where you're coming from.
I ended up rearranging the living room because I couldn't stand looking at her usual spots and expecting to see her there looking at me.

Thanks Sarah...re-arranging the room is a good idea actually....I might suggest it.

We rescued Chloe from the RSPCA when she was 7 months old. We found her there at 5 months...mangy, skinny and beaten (both physically, and her little spirit) One of us visited with her every day for 2 months before they said she was healthy enough to come home. Took another month of gentle love until she would make eye contact. After that there was no stopping her. Best dog I ever owned, and I've had a few. She was there when we lost our kids. She knew damn well when you were sad and would come and lie at my feet, her head on my feet with the occassional ankle lick, just to remind you she was there. Oh crap :'(

Hey Ruth when Betty gets better she will pups again in Sept. you can have one of those..... little wire critter.

Sarah, if Maryn's OK with it, I'm happy for the 2 threads to be merged. I know some folk aren't interested (of course they're not), but talking really helps I find, and might be an idea to keep it all in one place? Just an idea.

Daryl, seriously? That's Betty and her babies? That has got to be one of the cutest dog pictures I have ever seen. I hadn't even Googled her breed (sorry), but she's lovely!!!!

Sorry to hear of your loss Ruth, I know exactly how it feels having been through it four times myself.

I am not saying this with insensitivity but have you thought of getting another dog yet? I ask because that is the way I deal with it now, our last two Cavaliers were replaced within days and I found transferring your love to another dog to be a very comforting distraction from the grief.....however I can still shed a tear for Toby, the one in my avatar, my most loyal dog ever who we lost a few years ago :'(.

 it also deals with that awful empty feeling the house has when som, ething isnt there anymore.

I'm sure i'm going to be an emotional wreck when my current dog goes (not for many years yet, touch wood) as she goes pretty much everywhere with me including to work.

Incidentally my last dog was a cavalier - we wound up having to put him down age about 12 when he starting throwing up blood, as i recall I was fine in the vets office, then sat in the car outside and sobbed my heart out.

Pete I've done OK at work today, but I still went to sit in the car and lunch time to cry like a baby. Absolutely ridiculous.

its not ridiculous at all - when somethig you love goes you feel bereaved. People who say its 'only a dog' are missing the whole point , the love you feel for a furry freind is often as deep as you could for a human freind, if not deeper because animals rarely disapoint as people can.

TY Pete.

 Happy to do that as long as Martyn's OK with it.
The alternative is to start a new "missing good friends" thread and leave these two as they are.

I'll go along with whatever the two of you decide, since you're the the ones mainly affected by it.

Fine with me Ruth and Sarah, maybe will help anyone in the future who has the same to go through, talking about it and the kind and supportive replies have been a great help to me

Daryl...that's a great photo!!!
We've, we'll not so much me but Marian, has moved a few of Murphys things, can't quite get to doing anything with his box of toys yets though :(

I remember when my current dog got hit by a car a few years ago , we hadnt had her very long and didnt yet have insurance , and I vividly remember going into the vets and saying " I don't care what it costs, you've got to make her better"

Fortunately the damage wasn't too bad - she didnt go under the wheels she just hit the side of them and bounced off , so it was shock, cuts, and bruises- I think i was probably more traumatised that she was .

Done :)
Some of the posts may seem to be in a strange order now, but I think the sense of it is still there.
It's an awful thing to go through, so I'm glad that having somewhere to post is helping you both.

TY Sarah....It'll work for me.

Galaxy...we WILL definitely get a new rescue dog. We're just not sure when.

Ruth not sure you like these dogs.

They don't shed hair. Never smell when wet.... They smell like Shortbread.

Good with kids. Because they look like Tin Tins dog. Snowy. Good with big humans..... Always interested in what you are doing and eating....

Daryl...Sheds no hair would always be a winner for me.

If a non shedding dog is preferable don't fall in love with a cavalier if one comes along.

Oh I know about shedding dogs. Shall we say 'bits' of Chloe are still making themselves apparent in the house. She shed tons :)

*Edit* I won't care really if the next one sheds or not tbh.

Well if a Cavalier does come along, they have more than enough to offer to make up for the shedding :).

Ruth, there is a dog is out there now just waiting to melt your heart , this is the little fella that melted my heart and did a damn good job of relieving the grief within days of losing Toby.

Daryl, that is one cute dog, I could easily fall for him/her:)

I'm so sorry for your loss Ruth, Chloe looks like she was a wonderful friend and loved her life with you.
sending you hugs

Mal...very cute Cav.
Maria, I suspect Chloe would have been happy anywhere so long as she was allowed to make the rules :)

This was Betty's first litter.
This is their first day at Puppy school.
Jeoffrey, Stanley, Bilbo Baggins, Ella and Bailey.

Oh....My...God. Could they be any cuter?

My other half and I are like Mal. When we lose one of ours. We look on it as an opportunity to give another rescue dog a better life.
It never gets easier losing one but helping others is always a good thing.

Thanks Martyn. Hope Betty's on the mend....Keeping everything crossed.

Just caught up with this thread.

@ Martyn sorry for your loss, it's a hard decision to make but the right one.

@ Daryl I hope you get some good news soon, I know what it's like waiting for a call from the vets.

I hope you will all enjoy the following pics.

Foggy your pictures are wonderful, but my word your GSD is absolutely beautiful....just breathtaking. I miss my girl :(

Well, unexpectedly, we have a dog in the house again. Our elderly neighbour was taken into hospital this morning, and because Chloe is gone, Mr Viv volunteered us to look after his 9 month old pooch, Beluga (yeah I know the name is odd)

She's very cute....totally hyper,...missing her 'dad', and did I say cute? she's a 'bitsa' but there's definitely lab in there. Not sure I have waht it takes for what is essentially a pup again.

I bet she has put a smile on your face, enjoy her while you can. We have aways had more than one dog when we have had to let one go, I cannot imagine our house without one and 2 cats, 2 birds and the chinchilla :)
