Yes
I'm currently looking at the compact camera market, and found there a lot more brands to consider in comparison to the DSLR market, for example Casio, FujiFilm, Kodak. None of which are brands I even considered when looking for my DSLR.

So with everyone loving a particular manufacturer i.e [S1]I Love Nikon[/S1][S1]I Love Cannon cough cough :) [/S1][S1]I Love Olympus cough cough :)[/S1] etc... it got me wondering if you were brand loyal when it came to your compact camera as well or do you not really care because its a compact.

Just a thought/question for the day.

I've got a Nikon DSLR and a Nikon compact, it never occured to me to look at anything else, shameful i know, but there you are.

:nikon:

Canon 30d & Canon Ixus 960is in the post. (Previously Ixus 30, Isux APS, Powershot something)

I could possibly say: :canon:

(Though not so loyal to my lenses, Canon, Siggy and Toke!)

d80 and fuji finepix 5.1mp

If I want quality, I get the dSLR - So Compact comes down to style, finesse and price.

Fuji Compacts are brilliant but I just look around to see which one has all the things I want on a compact. I really dont care what make it is. Its just that it always seems to come out to be a Fui!

But I have a Canon DSLR.

"Everyone" is a broad stroke - I have DSLR's by Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm.

Can't give a monkeys chuff about branding in all honesty :)

Neither did I , why would you, better the devil you know an all that..

If it does what you want, and it has a good lens on the front - it will do the job.

Some of the new players in the camera market are from the electronics world - but they have collaborated with some of the established lens makers for their optical side of things....they should have some good ideas because they will not come at the digital side with the set ways of the established camera makers.

I use Nikon for main camera (since 1981 with an FE2) but the Canon compacts are way better than the Coolpix - so Canon G for th ecomapct - it provides files that you would do photojournalism with and not worry about the quality....fantastic really and fits in a shirt pocket (safari type shirt)

I've always thought that not being aware of what the competition is doing is a bit daft myself. You could spend time shooting with a system less suited to what you need.

I've shot both Canon and Nikon. Both are excellent. If you can't get great results with them it's not the camera.

I'm not brand loyal, one tiny bit. I like the whole "nikon v canton" crap, but purely for banter. My compact is a canton :D

Canon 400D and Canon Powershot A85 that has only recently died. Used a Ricoh before that, and that was superb.

whichever i get, my compact is about 4-5 years old now and still going. just happened to be a canon.

Although I don't own a compact (aside a 1.3mp Fuji from many years ago) I think I would naturally be drawn towards Canon, as I have Canon dSLR gear. Don't know why...but I guess I'd be following my heart!

Oly E420 dSLR, Fujifilm S1000fd compact, thought my last compact was a Fuji A403 (now that's going back a little way!)

Wasn't mean't to be a serious statement no offence intended.

I'm not fussed by branding myself either as its about the camera at the end of the day, but I can see the sense in buying a brand you know even if it means using the same software for both cameras.

Haveing looked at the Fuji specs and compared to some of the bigger brands in the same price bracket i am quite impressed by them.

I've had kodak, nikon, fuji, and canon compacts. Been happy with them all expect the kodak which was awful in low light. The fuji was the best low megapixel camera at the time, couldn't fault the image quality. Next time i'll probably look at the panasonic range too. So no, no brand loyalty.

I had a Nikon p&s, I have a Canon DSLR and if I were to get another compact I would look for the one that is closest to the spec I need and buy that one regardless of brand, my loyalty is to me not a camera maker

Thanks everyone for your comments has helped get that question out of my head :)

My first digital compact was a Canon, my SLR is a canon and the new compact I'm buying the girlfriend for Xmas will be a canon. The reason simply because they've always served me well. If my first compact had broken I may not have stayed with them but it's now 7 years old and still going strong.

nikon d50, olympus c765, nokia 6230i ,brand loyal definately:lol::lol::lol:

I've had Canon's for years, even before DSLRs came out, so when I got my DSLR I guess I was staying loyal to my compacy brand...

I'm after a new compact at the moment and only considering Canon again, I think the only thing that would tempt me away is a 'blad.

Nikon DSLR, and Panasonic TZ3 here totally auto so suits me :)

Nikon DSLR and a cheap Samsung compact here...

When it comes to compacts I am pretty loyal to Canon. That goes back to 35mm compact point and shoot days.

I rarely go anywhere without my compact. I've taken some cracking shots with my trusty old Ixus 40. A compact has it's limitations compared to a DSLR but it's better than nothing.

Dad is a Canon fanboy so that makes me a Canon Fangirl. I've never been tempted by Nikon or any other brands to be honest, I think I wear those rose tinted glasses a lot haha.
My First DSLR was a Canon and the next DSLRs will be Canon, and my Compact is obviously Canon too <3

Nikon DSLR and Nikon point and click! Although OH has an Ixus 870 and the IQ is far superior to the coolpix thing I have!!!

Yes. Canon all the way for both D-SLR and Compacts. I recently upgraded to a Canon IXUS 870 from the IXUS 800. Very nice compact :)

I've had several film compacts in the past including two by Olympus, and overall I wasn't that pleased with them.

I had a Nikon P&S and it was arse. It was one of there real low end/budget models so I should have realised, but I sold it in the end. I've since contemplated getting another compact camera but to be honest, I just carry my DSLR around with me everywhere these days so I don't see the need. If I want something lightweight, I'll take my film SLR and a 50mm lens. It's pretty compact and weighs nothing :)

I use Canon P&S and dSLR - simply for the fact that I can use the same software to do basic processing for both cameras, and all filename formats are similar etc. Just makes life easier, simple as.

Nikon F and D SLRs because they fit me better. Coolpix 3100 since it takes CF cards like the DSLRs and the Minolta DiMage5. Olympus Mju770 since it's waterproof down to snorkel depth. If any compact had a USP that I wanted/needed, I would go for it whatever brand it was, although now I would prefer it to take CF, SD or xD cards since I have some of them!
