Are you brand loyal, when it comes to your compact

Brand loyalty? Yes and No I suppose...
Leica rangefinders, Canon 20D, Canon G9. I did have a Ricoh GR-D, but didn't really get on with it.
Love the G9 as its ergonomics are similar to the EOS. No brand loyalty as such, but when Kiasmum got her G9 and I started to see the results, that was the last nail in the GR-D's coffin.
It never occurred to me to look for anything else once I saw and used a G9.

Not really brand loyalty but more brand operation loyalty. I have a Canon DSLR and a Canon G9 - both kind of operate in the same way and have similar controls which was more my reason than an undying love of Canon.

Interesting, loads of you use 'compacts', makes me feel a bit better, I though it was just me liking to keep a compact in the car when working:)

My choice of comapact was dictated by having a view finder, I canot get on with viewing screens, and dosent one look a 'berk', arms out, tourist zomby style, squinting at a screen obliterated by the sun:cuckoo: So at the time, it was Canon Power Shot S50, I was frustrated by the shutter delay, so moved to an A640, better but still some dely. Both have been troublesome, unreliable, the S50 went wrong twice in as many years, the A640 has recently died after 18 months, CPU goes corupt, £100 to repair:gag:

I have a very low opinion of Canon reliability. . . however I have gon back to the S50 in the car, suffer the shutter drag, it has a great lens!!! and a view finder.

I have been using Nikon SLR/DSLR's for nearly 20 years, but would not entertain one of their compacts because of the view screen only! However, when money eases up again, or if I find a bargin??? I will be looking at the Nikon Coolpix P6000, against the Canon G10. The G10 probably has the edge on fuction (twidaly bits), but as I only own equipment and take pictures to please me, it will please me to use a reliable Nikon compact. ;)
