Apply for CPS Membership.

What of the big advantages of CPS membership is their priority turnaround for repair/service.
On the two occasions I've used them (once for repair/once for service), they have had my camera back within 4 working days.
You just need to remember to put your CPS number on the package when you send it in.

I just applied with my 10D, 30D, 24-70 L, 100-400 L, and 50mm f/1.8. They need to update their site as they don't have the 30D listed as a camera.

Hmmm. I know the 50mm 1.4 used to qualify, but I wonder with the release of the 50mm 1.2L if that still applies?

I have a nifty fifty, 70-200 L and a 30D, If I spend under a £100 on a 10D off ebay I would qualify.

Would like to know how Canon decide what you need as an EF-S 17-55 2.8 cost more than a 17-40 L but because it's an EF-S they think a pro would not use it.

Well there is no way I am a pro (I'm only just above a snapper) and would think the rule should be tougher to join.

Other problems on that list include not listing the 300mm F4 non-IS. Quite scarily though if they include that I qualify

Sounds like the restriction based on gear is basicaly just so they have people spending money. Presumably they should be checking to see if you are actually a pro though.

Interesting the nifty counts as well.

I'm not sure of the provenance of that list tbh. When i was invited to apply I was quite clearly informed x2 semi / pro bodies & x3 L lenses. L was very clear. No tsure how the cheapest lens in the range factors into this??

Basically the qualifying kit i had when accepted was; 30D, 5D, 24-105 f/4 IS L, 70-200 f/4, 300 f/4

When I first applied , I had a canon 100mm macro (the non USM), and not on the list, which I put down and they accepted it?

The list is from Canon's CPS website, I just converted to a pdf file for easier viewing (saves having to click through a few screens to get it)

Then I'm truly baffled

And not for the first time. ROR is clearly the golden ticket then

Thats why I told them off when the denied me. Everything I have is on that list, well the 30D wasn't. Stupid list.

My membership was approved. I applied with...

Canon 30D
Canon 10D
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L
Canon 100-400mm IS L
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Canon 430ex Flash

I put in all the serial numbers, which I think helped over last time.

I was accepted couple of weeks ago. Still waiting for something other than the confirmation email.

Takes around 3 weeks (or it did when I joined around 3 years ago) for your card to arrive.

card? :suspect: I joined about three months ago and haven't seen a thing, got my reg number too.

I think what happens is your nominally accepted application goes to a local representative who eventually contacts you and sends you your membership card. It took quite a few weeks in my case IIRC.

From memory, Dod, i took 3 or 4 months for my card to arrive. So long that I'd fogotten all about it :cuckoo:

So much for the "professional" service then ;)

Ha! They finally add the 30D and the 40D is out in 2 months.

Anyone else getting the same results when opening the membership page in post #1 of this thread.

NOTHING..:(

Is there an updated link that I can fill in..

I updated my gear list with CPS recently Tim but it was a hell of a game half the time you seem to get a 404 message for the equipment page.

this may be a silly question (and not something I plan to do). But I could technically buy 2 x 10D's and 3 x Nifty Fifty 1.8s and I'm in?

don't know what's going on, I try to log in and it just says "welcome null", it's like it's lost my information

No actually. Even though they list the 50 F1.8 (or the F1.4 for that matter) on that list, it actually does not count. You have to have 3 lenses that are actually L lenses, even though they list others that are not (EF-S lenses don't count either).

At least this was the case when I joined.

Really? Why is it on the list of entry requirements if they don't accept it? Thats a bit silly of them.

Just out of interest, why are all those accessories on there if it's only lenses and bodies that matter?

You have to have a minimum of

2 bodies (any from the list) and 3 lens (any from the list)

The 50 1.8 does count.

This list was obtained from Canon professional services yesterday.

The criteria of it being an L lens was at the out set of CPS introduction and the rules have changed.

Having the minumum does not automatically gain you a CPS membership as all memberships have to be approved by the regional reps.

The list is a list of all items which are covered by CPS membership, if it isnt on the list you cannot use CPS privileges against that item.

That link seems to sort of work for me. The 'Country Select' box doesn't have any entries though, so I can't get any further! :bang:

All seems a bit flakey to me.

Just the same here, Total shambles TBH..

Ok that is news to me then. When I originally joined, I listed a 50 F1.8 as an item but was told that did not count. But they are pretty good, as they told me why I did not get approved, and I just put in the serial number of one of my other lenses, and everything was good.

Do you think it is really worth it for basically the mag,
Or is it just another way of selling more L Lenses and bodies.
