Apple watch worth it?

Only useful?

What about when you're upstairs and your phone is downstairs? There are loads of instances when it's useful.

Bluetooth headset. I can answer phone when it's upstairs and I'm not. Unless Apple Watch works over wifi then it will have the same range.

If it's the same as the MacBook and iPhone then it's over wifi. Which is brilliant as Bluetooth in our house won't reach the room next to the one I'm in.

I'm happy for you. Personally I'd be more comfortable wearing a watch than a Bluetooth headset at home.

I can't say I've ever enjoyed wearing a Bluetooth headset.

I'm more comfortable keeping the couple of hundred quid :)

The planetronics one I have is pretty comfortable. With call forwarding and sms forwarding on iPads and on the Mac as well I don't have the need for a watch to check messages or answer the phone when at home.

But I thought you yung'ns were never separated from your phones?
I'll often go out and leave mine behind.

I also like how you can pay with it instead of whipping out your bank card, cash or your phone. Very handy on tfl operated public transport.
I think "we" as a nation are relying too heavily on technology, I'd never do that. Far too much to go wrong.
The more that is linked together the greater the opportunity to hack into it.
eg
I have an on line bank account, that pays the bills, but will still walk into my local branch for large deposits or withdrawals.
I'd never sync that to my phone, sure my account could get hacked or someone breaks into my house and steals my PC.
There are a couple of possibilities there.
The minute I sync it to my phone the possibilities have increased by 50%, some small electronic item can easy be stolen.
Yes I do know about the safe guards, but that's why cyber crime is so successful, for every "block" there is usually a "work around"
No thanks.

I definitely get that, I couldn't belief that when I arrived here 20 years ago people were actually using cheques to pay people and not chip and pin and online transactions. Online payments were cleared within 15 minutes in my experience...

The UK has been very much behind on this.

However with systems like Apple Pay I actually prefer it since the retails never actually get my card details. They do not know it, they cannot skim or copy it.

Will it be hackable...Sure I'm sure there is a possibility, there always is, just like you can have utterings. But at the moment I, and the industry, see it as much more secure than handing over your card.

PS. I hope you've encrypted your PC and other things. I did, and when my two macbooks were stolen I wasn't worried about the data at all. The effort required to break a 12 digit or more password totally outweighs any financial gain to be had from it...

As I said in another thread, I have just renewed my firearms licence and I had to send a cheque with the forms as its the only method of payment the police accept.
Had cheques been discontinued as was the plan a few months ago, I guess I would have been handing over cash at the local cop shop ;)

Mine is set to destruct, the minute its 5 feet from the house

Satan has more chance of becoming a Christian, than I owning an iPhone :p
And no I still don't trust it for the reasons above.

Look at all the people a few years ago, that were laughing smugly at all the virus's that windows seemed to be prone too, "Get a mac" they declared.
Well as macs became more and more popular, the hackers jumped on the band wagon ;)

Each to their own, I understand a little bit about IT security, and definitely prefer handing over a device specific token to a debit/credit card....But then again I am much younger, and down with it :) :P

And soon and ex member :coat:

This is it though isn't it? the younger generation have grown up with this type of technology and accept it without question, us older's are more suspicious of things we can't physically control
like handing over cash, and then later on "handing over" plastic ;)

Hmmm not necessarily .. Ask me again after the nutters meet :D

Lots of false bank notes out there, robberies are easy, and soon we'll all being handing over plastic with the new bank notes :)

Seriously though; you call it accept without question, I don't think that is fair. I've definitely questions it, took time to understand how it works, and are satisfied that it is a much safer way in today's world.

Surely not once I've got those pictures of you eating a nice Crispy Creme doughnut whilst sipping Nod's coffee :P

Maybe you have, but there are a lot out there, probably the majority, that just accept stuff like this as "progress"

I had been thinking about a smartwatch too, mainly just to swap all the dials about for different watch styles, also for the fitness tracker.. I had thought the LG Watch R looked quite good.. It will be my 10th watch, so not sure I need it. may have to cull the collection soon..

Would love an iwatch but just doesn't do enough for me plus the battery life. Overpriced imo too and I am an Apple fanboy!

Garmin one looks good but it isn't clear whether you need a Windows pc to use all its features.

One feature which is missing off the iPhone which older Nokia phones had was a message light. If you missed a call or message it would sit and blink so you never had to turn the screen on to find if you'd had a call or text. Such a simple thing which made a massive difference.

You can do that on an iPhone and have been able to for years.

Last time I tried it, it flashed when you got a call/message but didn't carry on flashing to say it was missed so it's not the same. The nokias flash when you've missed it and will stay blinking for up to an hour if you don't check the phone.

Tried it on current phone and it still doesn't work like the nokias did.

I guess this is probably why apple are pushing continuity so you can be alerted on another device and not flatten your phone battery so much.

John lewis just dropped the price by £50 until new years eve..

Yup, it's now just significantly overpriced rather than horrendously...

Don't forget quidco cash back :)

Treated myself today and grabbed one whilst on offer,, went for 42mm sport model. Maybe I'm easily pleased but very impressed with it.

Space grey with black band plus ordered nice 3rd party strap and spigen charger off amazon. Love it better than I expected tbh only thing is the haptic feedback for a message is quite subtle. Was impressed with speaker phone though and the other half said I sounded clearer talking through the watch than I did on my phone!!

Have you increased the haptic?

Just got one and I must say I think they're superb! I am a huge Apple fan admittedly. It really depends on how you want to view it. If you think it is a 'iPhone' on your wrist, it isn't, so forget it. The 3rd party apps you can get for it are slow, so not worth it. The only way that it's worth it, is to use the inbuilt apps and use them as an extension of your phone...not as a phone itself. So for me, I run to the gym, with blue tooth headphones, phone in my backpack. Can start the tracking from my wrist entirely by voice activation, see my heart rate, change tracks and volume of the headphones as I run, and see where I am, without getting my phone out. Reminders, emails and appointments regularly pop up too. Facebook messages and texts also ping straight to your wrist. So great if you use the native apps and use the inbuilt features already, but the separate 3rd party apps are too slow to be useful. Play with it as much as you would a separate iPhone and the battery isn't great, but if you use it as an 'extension' then you'll only be checking it as and when and battery life isn't an issue. So if you accept it is an extension of your iPhone, and a very convenient extension, you'll love it. Treat it as a toy when you're bored and you may be disappointed...
