I know these are completely different programmes, but let me try and explain why I am trying to decide between them.
I am new to digital photography, having previously spent a lot of time with film (but not in the last 10 year where work and kids meant it got pushed out). Now, having purchased a DSLR (Canon 500D) I am looking at what software I should use.
Being on a Mac I realise I can use iPhoto with Photoshop Elements as the external editor, and that would organise things pretty well. The other option to me is to buy Aperture instead. Looking at the videos on the Apple site it seems that the kind of basic editing I want to do can be done with Aperture, but that it sets me up with a better system for collecting and cataloguing my photos and that I could add a more comprehensive piece of editing software as an 'external editor' at a later date. It strikes me that the presets and simple brushes etc in Aperture are simpler to use than what Photoshop offers.
Is this reasonable thinking? Thanks so much for your help.
