anyone into cycling / MTBing? - show us your bikes.

Do you actually ride with the bottle on the front of the down tube and then dribk from it :gag:

Get a camelbak if you haven't already done so ;)
Yeah it was a bit risky so I've since bought a Deuter Hydration pack.

Right, we've seen some bikes, what about seeing some proof of them actually getting used :D
Unfortunately being the photographer means I don't get photos of myself.

Thats a good thing about mtb'ing....you're not alone :)

Only a nutter goes really off road alone :cuckoo:

Sorry I am just back from Pitfichie where I left my son and his pal alone on the downhill track while I went off on a xc ..ahem.. alone! Would have taken my camera but it p**sed down all day. No let up.

HUN.......:D

I stand by my comments through experience, we were out on a group ride around the karrimor loop a few years ago where we came across a poor guy struggling to walk and drag his bike, turned out he binned it and had broken his collar bone and thumb. Nutter had driven almost 100 miles to ride the route :cuckoo:

There's no way he could have driven in that state, even walking was agony for him :(

Went to Dalby Forest near Pickering today, excellent day out. Took the camera gear. It stayed in the boot and I just went riding.

There is a MTB race at Lydden Hill next Sunday morning while the Supermoto boys are racing. Hoping to race in that!

Carl.

I've been out loads of times by myself but I guess I've always blocked the thought of falling off and getting too injured to get home out of my mind. I've been thrown over the handle bars a couple of times but only suffered cuts and bruises.

Went to the shop today to get my bike, the dont have the XL frame size, they rang their supplier, and they cant get any in XL either! So I rang around and no where can get it until september..

I did find one place which can get one for monday though, unless I buy it off the net ofcourse..?

XL??? How tall are you? I've got a 35.5" inside leg and I've never needed more than a 58cm road frame (large in compact types).

Right, we've seen some bikes, what about seeing some proof of them actually getting used :D

Who's first ?

There's lots of me from various races, unfortunately they're all on various web sites waiting for me to pay for them! I'll try and find a link...

6'3 :/

I tried out the L today (20") and it felt a bit small? The XL (22") was also recommended to me by the guy in the shop, as does the GT fitting guide thing :/

I think my inside leg is about 87cm

Have you ridden the large? When riding, the front hub should be obscured by the handlebars. If the bars are in front of it when you look down the frame's too big and behind it's too small. Obviously just a guide mind!

They have the large in a local shop, I rode a GT large frame, not the AVA 1, but the AVA 2. I didn't know about the front hub rule, so I didn't check!

Worried now, becuase I got the company to order me an XL which is coming to them on monday, dont wanna be a pain and tell them it's to big now!!!

the guy in the shop this morning said the L looked small when I was riding about :/

Nice photo btw, looks like a lot of bloody effort!

I've a feeling that was taken towards the end, and yes, a lot of effort! If they had the large and recommended the larger one then I'd trust them. If they're worth their salt, then they'll let you try the L and XL back to back and you can then see which one's best. they can always send the XL back if you don't want it so no drama there. My team just ordered me a new frame and sent it out with the instruction that if there was anything not right they'd send it straight back and try something else or keep it for shop stock. Hope you enjoy it when you get it. Can't understand all this riding around in the mud to be honest ;) :cuckoo:

Nice! I haven't seen a bike with reverse mounted aero brake levers for a long time

My London transport. Rescued from a bin :D

yeah, well the two shops are actully 1hour apart, so difficult to try them back to back! But I asked them on the phone if it's not the right size is that ok, and they said yes. Just means I have to wait until monday!! Can't wait to get it though!

Marik I'm 6ft dead on and used to race on an 18" hard tail frame

You need to make sure you have enough room between the frame and your 'nads' when your foot is on the floor. A rolled up copy of MBR between the top tube and the nads was my guide :D

Cheers Digi!

I've had a chat with a few people and decided, I'm going in the shop tomorrow to have another test run, then going for the purchase, if I get on with it. I will run your /nad test/ :P

Cheers!

Dan

ROCKSHOX Judy fork : £70 ;)

I'm not having a go - I'm just wondering where the cost is in that bike ?

 no probs mate! nothing wrong with the rockshox!! :nono:

As said, wheels are worth £800, GT frame was £160, Easton CNT handlebars £140, XT chainset £134, XTR shifters and brake levers £80, XTR chainset £30, Chris King headset £130, M970 pedals £80, Dura ace 7800 £100 (frontand rear and chain), EC90 seat post £150, Ritchey WCS stem £70, T1 seat £70......cant remember the rest!

Hi, As a guide you should allow between 2-4 inches between the frame and your nads ;)

Nice one guys!

My cousin ordered the Avalanche 2.0 today, he wont get it until monday though.

so the pic you put up was pre modification

Dura ace is a road groupset and the front mech won't work with an xt chain set.

On a side note.....why are they called disc wheels when they're rim braked ?

I'm not dissing the ride in any way, but the image doesn't stack up to the description.

My Tracer was pretty much top of the range back in the day and the retail on the build was 3.3k, but it looked a bit special. :)

By todays carbon goodness, it looks retro cool :D

My Litespeed Ocoee... luvverly titanium...now ten years old and still going strong...the forks are old Judys - had them serviced last year only to be told that the parts he used were tha last in the UK and next time it'd be cheaper to buy new ones than fabricate the parts...that old...
RKD0627060010003E.jpg

Shown last year when it still had the old Middleburn cranks on (which developed a hairline crack near the spindle) - now replaced by an '06 XTR crankset.

This bike cost me about £3k to put together in '96/'97 - you could probably build it for £1500 now.

Im not sure its referring to the type of brakes, just the name of the wheel!

Picture posted is pretty much how the bike is

Sorry you thinking im lying about the bike, not sure what i have to gain from that,

Disk wheels are (were?) specifically for TT racing - in the 'old' days they were semi-solid wheels without spokes, usually fibre-glass or later on carbon-fibre. The idea was that a 'faired-in' wheel produced less drag and the extra weight (usually a lot of extra weight) was less of a disadvantage on the typically flat TT courses around the country - until you tried racing in a cross-wind up some s***ty Norfolk dual-carriageway...You could always tell if your 'minute-man' was catching you from the loud rumbling sound caused by his disks...
Ahhh Happy Days - that's why I bought an MTB...

Went to the bike, shop tested the large frame, and it seems perfect! cant see the front hub, 3" clearance on the nad test etc.. seems good to go!

So.. they are building my bike, and I'll be picking it up 2moro :x

Cheers all

No one was suggesting your fibbing m8.....:)

It's just that the componenty fitted to the bike in the image doesn't stack up to the description.

In this day and age, my definition of a disc wheel is one that doesn't have a machined surface for the rim brake

I must get some pics of it in it's natural enviroment , the awful border does nothing for it :D goodjob it's gone now ;)

I have just this evening purchased a new bike (well new to me :) ).

It is a Saracen Backtrax, I used to have one a few years ago in blue and absolutely loved it, nice weight to it, love the thumb shifters and the gearing seemed spot on for where i rode it. The Apollo pants i replaced it with when it broke is diabolical but did its job when needed.

Purchased tonight from the magical Ebay for the princely sum of £32!

BARGAIN, can't wait to reduce my rather large behind by riding all over the place.

Fitness here i come (kicking and screaming) ready or not!! :help:

And the bike is mine! Got it for a cracking price!

Will post pictures after I've recovered!

As promised!

I've hardly stopped all day, so I'm rather tired, and I have rock climbing at 7!!

Looks nice, Dan. For a mountain bike that is... :naughty:

Looks good :)
It's looks similar in size to my 21inch Rockhopper, but probably a bit shorter.

Go and buy yourself some new pedals though!

Aye......your not a stiff back, so lose the toe clips of death and get some decent SPD's :D

i thought the 1.0 had better disc brakes than the 2.0, they are the tectro auriga's, same as on the 2.0, so what's better on the 1.0 than on the 2.0?
