I've just gone through the whole list and followed a good number of you all :thumbs:
 
Most nights I go through the first 10-20 pages of Fresh photos, Liking, Favoriting, and commenting on the pictures I like best. And I've noticed something I thought I'd warn you all about. Well, those of you that don't already know.

When you upload a picture, the website generates a square thumbnail, no matter what shape your photo. I don't know what algorithm it uses to decide which part of the photo appears in that square, but it's not always the best part.

If you go to the photo page and click the Edit button, you can drag a square outline over the photo. The outline will have drag handles to resize it and you can click and drag the middle of the square to move it around. Save your changes and it will generate a new thumbnail.

Let people see your photos at their best.

Can't say I've heard of it TBH, I still use Flickr

I dropped a link to my Flickr Account in there. To be honest I think they're just trying to stop people registering multiple accounts a) to save a little server space and b) to stop people using multiple acc's to boost ratings :shrug:

ah, thanks for the interest, and indeed the vote :thumbs:

I think it's mainly to stop too many robots signing up and, as TheBigYin said, just spamming a ton of likes on particular images to gain people unfair advantages. It wouldn't be a major effort for someone in the know to write a script to vote on a handful of their own pictures, but from secondary, tertiary, quaternary... etc blank accounts.
 
Down for me too.. I've gone the paid route and set-up 500px for a custom domain I was holding (www.inskip-photography.co.uk). I really must sort out a portfolio to upload, just a few test uploads at the moment.
 
Loads of people I know have joined recently - been quite a lot of publicity around the number of folk they are attracting.

I quite like it and fancied a change from Flickr.

Yeah just saw that. Over all I prefer it to flickr and deviantArt.

deviantArt seems to be full of overly precious people. I got tons of abuse when a stock photo of a pigeon I took got given a daily deviation haha.

The categories seem a little people-shooting-centric IMHO. Not good for me, being the kind of person who waits hours to get a shot without people cluttering it up. I can't help it - if i'd wanted to shoot people I'd have joined the Army.

Why couldn't they just have a Misc category so we've got somewhere to put our photos that don't fit into their categories? It would be a start, at least. I guess we'll just have to keep petitioning them to add more.
 
I've just been searching for images, and decided to look for my own, and they don't come up in the search results. :eek:

I've searched by name of pic, category they are under, Travel, and even for my own username with no luck. :shrug: :bang:

Can anyone else find their own images?
