Anyone else use 500px?

Have you linked to a social network contact James? It's the only thing that I can think of why my images may not be showing up in a search. :( I left a question in the Help Forum as to why I need to have a 'Contact'. So far with no reply. :(

I don't think flickr has been reporting correctly for a couple of weeks, my stats have nose dived too
 
I guess I'm out of step as usual. Signed up with 500px and hated the interface and square previews. Took me ages to find the delete account button too.
 
I agree my photos were never noticed on flickr, im definitely going to change!

I wondered about the square previews, too. But then I found that you can choose which part of your photo goes into the square thumbnail, so you can show off your photos to their best advantage. As a side issue, it's also made me think about shooting some square-format street shots.
 
I don't know if anyone's noticed already as I haven't been following this thread for a few pages but they've added right click protection now.

He's certainly correct that a community is only as good as it's users but I think that's exactly why a lot of people want to get away from Flickr.
If he's only looking at the same contacts on a different website of course it's the same. I'm yet to see the same photo in both Flickr Explore and in one of the 500px promotion pages so even if it is the same people on the sites different people are getting exposure and I'd say the photos getting exposure on 500px are consistently of a much higher quality than on Flickr.
That might change once the people who get attention on Flickr establish bigger networks on 500px though.

It's more like a different pub with a different doorman who has slightly different standards as to who he lets in.
 
I've gone through this thread and think I'm following everyone who's posted in this thread. I've uploaded a pic as a trial. I've never felt I really got to grips with Flickr so I think its worth giving 500px a go.

I just started using LR3 a few days ago and am trying to take my photography up a notch. Looking at the images on that site I feel a bit intimidated, but inspired and challenged too. :) So I will post photos even if they're not up to the average standard as that's how I'll learn.

Seeing some of your images makes me realise how much accumlated knowledge, skill and experience there is on this forum!

hewhoknows (Matt): why not post your 500px URL, then we can follow you. Doesn't matter if you haven't got anything up there yet. I didn't have anything up for ages but got quite a few followers. Doing it this way means that you'll start getting some Likes and Comments right from the start.
 
Been browsing about this evening, feeling very over whelmed by the quality on there and the lack of strength in my images, was close to deleting them all at 1 point! The down side to that site after a less than stellar day lol.
 
Chris: I've read quite a few comments like that in recent weeks. Go to 500px and click on the Fresh link. You'll see dozens of people uploading six minor variations of basically the same photo that wasn't very good in the first place. If you're going to compare your photos, why not compare them with the right set of people? Or the wrong set of people, if you get my drift...

Ive started a 500px account now, Clicky Linky I also like that you can sell your images using FotoMoto, which in turn you cam embed into your blog or website, I see you can use watermarks on Fotomoto and still sell un-watermarked images, although I havent looked into how to do that yet
