i am starting to get paranoid about these two wheeled menaces ,in the area where i usually go for peace and quite and some nice winter owl shots they have laid a new cycle path over the old footpath ,the bloody fools think thats its a race track not a joint cycle and footpath that is still used by walkers ,photographers, and dog walkers ,in my case its even worse as i am tone deaf and rarely wear my hearing aids so cannot hear there little bells tinkling ,i do know if one rides into me it will be there balls tinkling .
and to make it worse they seem to like hogging the local lanes as well its bad enough trying to drive and watch out for buzzards and kestrels never mind morons in lycra pants .surely it can't be just me that hates them :arghh::arghh::arghh:

Oh Jeff...you don't know what you've started here chap...I don't hate all cyclists, just the bad about 5% same as I don't like the 5% of bad drivers etc....

But before long you'll have an entire militant army of them on you case so don't the asbestos over coat now ;) or run, run fast, run far

If it's a right of way that cyclists can use there probably isn't much you can do about it. And as far as I'm aware there are no speed limits on bridleways (etc).

That said its give and take between walkers, cyclists and horse riders (where applicable). I always try and slow down when approaching either humans or horses and generally I haven't had much bother (other than out of control dogs) but there are always the minority's that gets others tarred with the same brush.

Knowing how this place is recently no doubt this will turn into a rant from motorists about cyclists red light running etc although completely irrelevant to the discussion so I expect chaos by lunchtime.

yes, there are some true idiots who ride bikes

As a driver of a car, you have a responsibility to take care around cyclists, as the car is the more dangerous of the two here, similarly when you are a pedestrian, the cyclist will generally have a responsibility to be careful around you.

If you do not respect the rights of a cyclist when you are safe in your car, how can you expect them to respect yours when you are the pedestrian???

Yes Jeff you've started it now:D
I know what you mean though I've been out and had guys on bikes bombing down the tracks bloody dangerous
Cyclists on the road is a separate issue and they have a right to use the roads too and I find them ok although I wish they would signal when turning!

Which reminds me.....

Any TP member cycling through Borough Green this morning, tripod poking out the top of backpack?
Waaay too cold for shorts this morning fella

On the flip side, these joint cycle/pedestrian trails often demonstrate the complete ignorance of some pedestrian users. Instead of walking in single file or two abreast and leaving a bit of room on one side of the track, I often find groups of people spreading themselves out across the trail so the cyclist (that's me folks) can not get past. I don't have a bell; I have a foghorn that after two attempts at a reasonable 'excuse me, coming through' bellows ... GET OUT THE BLOODY WAY. It's never failed yet.

Quite a few in London seem to want to prove a point by overtaking moving buses - quite amusing to watch from inside the bus ……. you can tell the "I cycle this way every day types, who want to beat their best time" - complete idiots

I don't hate cyclists but they are a bloomin nuisance in York, they have a blatant disregard for traffic lights, one way systems, stop and giveaway signs and not adverse to using pavements. All that havoc and don't even pay road tax !

and then there are those who cycle on the bloody pavement in London, they are a bloody menace

There were also 4 "mum's and dad's" with their offspring attached on those "trailer" things behind yesterday as I drove along a small country road on my way into Bordeaux …… all over the place ……. treating the outing as if they were on bloody holiday ….. disgraceful if you ask me, tw4ts!

Road tax? What's that then? Surely you don't mean that emissions based duty levied on exhaust producing motor vehicles.

If you're full concentration isn't on the road whilst you're driving then you're just as bad as the terrible cyclists, I'm afraid. If not worse, you pack a lot more punch in a car.

I shouted at a cyclist in the park recently, I shouted Hello in an aggressive manner....why? because she was veering towards me whilst I was jogging on one side of a wide pathway in the park whilst she was texting on her phone. She nearly ran into me.
I also have a big bear about cyclists who flaunt the highway code is massively dangerous ways. It's rather annoying.
But yes, on a shared area like parks, where people are walking their dogs, parents with prams etc, cyclists really shouldn't be racing around the place in my opinion. do it where it's appropriate.
For the record I actually don't mind cyclists illegally on the pavement next to a carriage way,.... at walking speed. However, then they dip in and out of the road, or pile passed my front door at a at fair whack..it's going to cause an accident one day.

Oooh so tempting!

I never knew 'cyclists' were a race unto themselves ... [oooh, there's a pun there somewhere]

Bit ignorant to lump them all into one category. I cycle, I stick to the rules of the road, I get almost shoved off the road by drivers and cut across and beeped at for no reason [which is more dangerous than anything a cyclist could do to a car!] been splashed badly as drivers race through large puddles to get around me [also dangerous, and I wonder if that split second they could have waited for me to get by the puddle saved any lives!?] . I use lights at night, I use hand signals at the relevant times before turning, I never cut across cars or get in their way ... etc ... etc ...

Maybe I should make an "anyone else hate drivers" thread ... or single mothers, with their buggies!! yeah, let's go after them next!

Neither do you ... nor does anyone else for that matter.

Women cyclists ……. well that's something else

I hate joggers, they always take over patways, in twos or threes ... they're always larger than the usual person, make huge swinging obnoxious gestures like they have more rights to the pathways and demand people get out of their way .... even mothers with buggies!

Yeah, that sounds silly, right ^^

Like the original post here. And some others. There's always the odd few let down the rest. Not all cyclists are 14yr old hooligans :D

Not all people with dogs let them s***e all over the pathways either ... actually don't get me started on people who walk dogs just to let them do exactly that

Good and bad car drivers and cyclists, think the latter get a bit more worked up because of their vulnerability

Funny one the other morning, just putting out my wheelie bin onto the pavement and a cyclist came belting along the footpath (not shared] Had to swerve/wobble to avoid me and then turned back in an aggressive way shouting watch out in an angry voice. Couldn't be bothered to have a go back, tea and toast was going cold and bit of a mismatch, he looked like an anorexic plucked chicken in a bodystocking

Really not much of an issue around here, but there are a few who seem to think pavements are simply there to provide an alternative route!

The latter get more worked up because they could be killed by stupidity of some drivers, aye.

I'm not one of those who wear the racing gear :D God no. But I've never seen them race along footpaths. You sure it wasn't a 14yr old hooligan with a footykit on? AH ... the football shirt wearers, let's dig at them!

Actually it looks like the OP just had a rant after one experience, dumped it on here, then legged it, wasn't looking for discussion at all .... Pffft, drivers! Grrr

On a serious note ……. there are minimum ages for other road users …… any kid can ride a bike on a public road as fast as he can go

Drivers, motorcyclists etc., are expected to know the Highway Code, be insured and have their vehicles tested as road worthy ………… cyclists just get away with it.

Before those comedians in Government sort out Federal Britain they need to bring cycling laws up to date and in line with other road users ……… cyclists get killed …. road conditions have changed over the years …… there needs to be some consideration by Government ………. totally unpractical maybe…… but those wallies in Westminster need to be given something useful to do

light end of blue touchpaper...... and retire to watch from a safe distance......

Yes this was originally about problems that the OP had had with some mountain bikers on a shared track in a public park and has turned into something else entirely:D

I love the cyclist on our shared paths and bridle routes. Especial the ones wearing the loud Lycra clothing. My big black Labrador really loves those bright colours and always bounces towards them to give them a nice cuddle. Some like it. But some don't and about abuse. I calmy advise them to stop wearing the silly cloths off-road as they make themselves look like a target and a big chewy toy.

It is so funny to see a lot of them totally clueless of their environment. Just get a nice Dutch iron bike, a flat cap and a Barbour wax coat. That will do the trick and much more comfortable.

I hate dog walkers on paths when the blasted dog is on a flexi-lead which is fully extended and the dog is nowhere near the loving owner.

Gawd help the poor cyclist brought down by the lead. Owner's comment is usually along the lines of " He was on a lead !! ]
