Anyone been to Lofoten islands?

I always get jealous of your posts as you seem to get some great trips done. i have had a look at the workshop page and looks great...

are you workingour way through the all the tatra workshops? :D

enjoy and cant wait to see the pictures you come back with.

Hello Marie
I went there in 07, just for 2 days and one night (was staying in Bodo, so we flew across for a quick trip)

Its a beautiful place to vist and very photogenic, did not take that many photographs though as we were with 2 other no photographers and i did not have a dsl then. (will see if i can find some of the photos later)

Dont know how you are getting there or where are staying though, but would suggest you arrange a hire car for a couple of days as the best scenery is inland
It was hot sunny and warm when we went in june, but you cant rely on the weather, it can be very wet and overcast a lot of the time.

There is a terrific viking museum in Borg about an hours drive from Solvaer through breathtaking scenery, well worth a visit, but bring warm clothes with you as it can get (and did) very windy and mind numbing cold on that part of the island.

The down side is that Norway is incredibly expensive, you really need a lot of money, especially for food, i go to North Norway quite a lot and generally the exchange rate over the years had hovered around the 10 Krone to the pound
and thought things were expensive then, went in June this year and it 8.1 to the pound:gag:

Edit just read and realised that you are going on an organised photo trip, so a lot of the above info might not be relevant, looks a great photo trip to do though i am sure you cant fail to enjoy it.

I've had a few holidays up there and there's some really spectacular scenery. Like most places though, cloud can make or break it.
I'm sure it won't disappoint you.

Mmmm - very jealous.
1) I went on a midnight sun trekking holiday in Northern Iceland; amazing memories and wonderful light assuming you get enough time to play during the 'night' when the sun is low. I'd love to go back anywhere that far North.
2) I previously looked at going to the Lofoten Islands; it looks magical and I'll get there one day!
3) I almost booked with this mob for their Peaks and Valleys trip, so did all the research and read loads of positive comments. I ended up on a wilderness workshop in Knoydart with Colin Prior, but I'll definitely be looking at their workshops next time I'm needing a break.

Like the others - I'm really looking forward to seeing your piccies.

Cheers guys.
The reason I've booked a few trips with tatra photography is that I like their friendly laid back approach and feel comfortable in their groups. They also get a lot of repeat clients so you meet folk that you've maybe met before on a previous tour.
I also like the places that they go to, and lofoten really appeals to me.

Hi Esen,
is that one of antony spencer's trips?
Strangely enough I was just looking at his workshops for next year on his website ;)

I'm actually planning a trip there myself for this winter. I've been to Norway a couple of times and absolutely LOVE it there, so I hope you have an excellent trip. Lofoten is gorgeous.

Lofoten islands are just stunning. You won't be able to put your camera down because there is a great shot everywhere you turn!

The only slight (and I mean slight) downside is the area is a LOT more touristy than most other places in Norway. I have been pretty much everywhere in Norway over the years and the Lofotens are a lot busier than anywhere else except Gyranger. There tends to be lots of people in certain areas of the islands. If you are on a photography tour you will be fine though.

As Groucho said the exchange rate is even more of a killer at the moment. I was in Southern Norway last week and man was it EXPENSIVE!

I have a few shots from the Lofotens here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andysolaini/sets/72157607376359845/

Above all have fun!

Thanks Andy, and interesting set of images that make me look forward to it all the more

Regardless of exchange rate, Norway is always expensive. It's one of the most expensive countries in the world. But it's worth it.

I spent two weeks in Spitsbergen on the Noorderlicht in July. The ship sails to Lofoten and our guide gave us a slideshow, it looks stunning. There are very large numbers of White tailed eagles.
