I remember when your post used to be delivered at by 10am at the latest, why is it now like 1.50pm & ours still hasn't been around:shrug: Some days it is literally 4pm before he comes. Now I am not having a go at the postman personally, but what has changed in their job description that means they now have to deliver our post so late:shrug:

Really winds me up when you rely on the service:bang:

7pm 1st delivery one day last week!

I run a small business from home, and this has always been a problem for me with business mail arriving at any time they feel like delivering it. I have had articles in the press, complained dozens of times, but nothing ever happens.
Strange how they can manage to deliver Saturday mornings mail before 9am as they want to finish early!!
Youve started me off again now:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

At least your stuff gets delivered, a worrying amount of our post never even makes it to our address.

Worst example was my Documentary Photography MA offer letter. If I hadn't phoned up the college to ask why I hadn't heard anything I would've missed the deadline to accept and missed out totally on the MA.

I was talking to our postman and he says there has been a stop on recruitment, so any natural wastage has meant them covering extra shifts and doing rounds back to back.

Yes, I get that as well, my house number is 81, and there is an 81 just around the corner in the next road. They often cant be bothered to either read the correct street name, or even know which street they are in at any given moment!!!

Ours comes around 12h00 every day, Monday - Saturday. It's a rural area and the postman has to cover a fair distance.

... and the second delivery was just after lunch.

The (now ex-) husband of the subpostmistress used to grab the bike and end up canoodling with another man's wife, so we never got our afternoon deliveries.

Ours comes between 10am and 1pm ish, generally about 11/1130 so happy with that.

Having recently retired from RM after 25 years, I think I can answer some of your questions.
1 The delivery system has changed dramatically. Your Postie now gets OUT of the office around 10ish (used to be 7ish)
This is down to indoor duties (sorting etc) and RM not wanting to pay early shift allowance.
2 Saturday is a quiet day, so they get out earlier. NOTHING to do with wanting to finish early! (In fact, my post comes between 12 and 1 on Sat.)
3 Most Posties are on part time or agency staff are used, very few full time Posties are left.
4 2nd deliveries went out many years ago!
5 Cannot comment on sex life of Posties!
6 It is (according to collegues still on the job) going to get worse!

I cannot tell you how glad I am to be out of it!

I think your item 6 is right - especially if they get to be privatised. I have done a fair bit of research and of course it's not all the posties' fault. It starts from the Chief Exec downwards - a complete shambles

Similar story here, we get ours at 2pm Mon-Fri even if there's a guaranteed before 1 in there. Our postman has done the round for years, looks close to retirement though unfortunately. We rarely get a Saturday delivery.

at least your post arives/departs - down here if it isnt rmsd its a lottery where it goes to - seriously considering opening a work account with UPS

Royal mail has gone down hill. I used to send a lot of stuff a few years ago with no bother. Now it's a gamble it'll even reach its destination. Had so much stuff go missing last couple of years.

Couple of weeks ago I had a letter meant for a place the other end of the country delivered. Same house number and similar road name but that's where the similarities ended!

I must admit, ours is pretty good. Comes around 9.30am except Fridays when it's nearer 2pm as our regular guy is off that day so I assume the round is tagged onto someone else's.

As we both leave for work around 7am, it doesn't really make any difference to us anyway as we still don't get it until we get home from work.

I worked as a Postman for about 9yrs. As mentioned most were out the office around 7am. Those were the days when unless you had your full uniform on and looking smart you were not let out the gate, now look at the scruffy gits :D

I had this happen consistently for months, got in no end of trouble because of letters not reaching me etc. I could go for well over a week, sometimes it would be nearer to two weeks, with no mail coming through my door. Then one day I would have 20 - 30 letters shoved through the door at once, and even then there would be things missing that I'm expecting.

I rarely ever send anything unless its sent as recorded, as it really is a lottery as to whether it will arrive at its destination or not. Recorded delivery, or delivered personally by hand is the only way I will send things now.

About the only service I dislike more is HDNL (Home delivery network), and I find it really annoying that amazon use them. Ive had loads of items "go missing" - aka stolen. Parcels that are marked as delivered on their systems, and when I make a complaint saying that I havent received the parcel turns up a couple of days later by a driver looking extremely guilty. Delivery drivers who are rude, obnoxious and borderline offensive. Parcels left on my doorstep, in plain view for everyone to see and easily rob. Oh and on one occasion Ive had a driver open my parcel so they so they could fit individual items through my letter box because I wasnt in to accept the delivery. I could go on...

Can you tell that I hate them with a passion? :bang:

Apologies if anyone here works for HDNL, I have met a handful of perfectly pleasant, nice delivery drivers, often sharing a quick smoke or cup of tea with them whilst having a chat before they leave. But the problems I have had far outweigh the positives unfortunately.

Try getting uniform these days, took me neaerly 6 months to get some last time I ordered !!!

To be fair I am very impressed. I can post a package to somewhere miles away at 4pm and it gets there the next morning - for a small letter that just 40p or so. Not had any real complaints, although most that i receive are bills in any case!

Recorded makes no difference. I've had recorded and special delivery go missing too. Only benefit is being able to claim the value of the item back.

I know what you mean about couriers too. They leave stuff on my door step too right on a busty passage way to the pub and Tesco's. I send all my mail to work now.

Hmm, I need to check this out. Where is this pub?

We rarely get our post before 2pm, often later. I believe they now offer an earlier delivery if you pay for it. Now if I were cynical ... :whistling:

I'm at work all day so I have no idea when my post comes, nor do I care.

A bill coming at 9am or 5pm is not going to make a scrap of difference to me.

I think Royal Mail do a fantastic job, one that no other company can or wants to do. From ANY UK address to ANY other UK address for 40p unbeatable.

We have lots of companies providing products/services that aren't economically viable.

Royal Mail is one of many.

never had the post later than 12pm in my area.

the royal mail is great. Never lost anything of mine either.

Certainly agree about HDNL. Their driver broke into my shed to leave an Amazon parcel while I was at work. I complained and the eventual response was that he'd found the door open and assumed I'd left it open for him. Nice of me to leave splinters around the lock too.

(For the record, it was a pretty small lock, one of those that really just kept the door shut than provided loads of security. Give the door a big tug and it'd open, eventually.)

Literally to any other UK address, possibly even the one you put on the envelope.

Re HDLN or Yodel as i think they are called now (presumably for the loud echoing cry of 'oh FFS' which customers give after discovering their misdeeds) I've already told the story on here about the Yodel delivery driver who left me a card on which was scrawled " item could not be delivered as could not find correct address"... that really takes a special kind of talent

Strangely enough, we had a card through the door from Yodel last week to say that a parcel had been left next door. Before I could collect it, my neighbor had spotted my car pulling into the drive and brought it round. It was a solid oak table that weighed a ton and it was for a completely different address! When I phoned the number on the card, the only option was t rearrange delivery!! :bang:

We ended up having to drive over to the intended recipents so they could come over and pick it up (Was too heavy for me to lift into the car)

Today, the postie has just turned up at 10.15 am. I nearly fell off my computer chair in shock as I have never known him to turn up before 12.30 pm! (Him turning up by 4 pm was quite common).

Unfortunately all I got in the post this morning were junk mail.

the other one yodel have perpetrated on me is " delivery left in wheelie bin at end of drive" anyone care to guess why the wheelie bin might be at the end of the drive on a monday morning :bang:

fortunately amazon were dead good about redespatching a replacement without charge

I ordered a reflector bracket from an Amazon 3rd party, never showed up. I didn't realise it had a tracking number until I went back to check my order and saw it was Yodel and they had tried to deliver it all week - I had been in all week and taken other deliveries.

I called Yodel who had it back at their depot, asked me to confirm the details only to say they were were trying to deliver to number 26 - I am number 27, how they got 26 is beyond me. They said they can't change the delivery and blamed Amazon/3rd party for getting it wrong.

I called the supplier who confirmed the delivery address as 27. The classic was when I called Yodel to pick up they package, they said I couldn't get it unless the ID I had was addressed to 26  After 15mins of yodeling at Yodel :bang:, and the rage monster bursting out I drove to the depot with the order confirmation to pick the package up.

You and me both. I took voluntary redundancy in May and have not missed in for one second. The work load on my walk (690 calls) was becoming intolerable. (increased to 896 calls) under the "modernisation plan".

I recently popped into the old office to see the lads and to a man they all said they wish they had taken VR when it was offered.

RM is such a dinosaur with deeply entrenched mistrust and resentment between the workforce and management which I feel will always get in the way of real improvement.

As previously said, it is only going to get worse, for the people who work for RM and their customers.:(
