Sorry but IMO its on par with Train sets in the loft and kite flying
you;ve clearly never seen proper kitesports then.

I have which is why I quoted kite flying (a reference to the kind of thing I do with my 5 year old daughter) and not kitesports (power kiting, buggying etc).![]()
There is the same difference in the sorta rc car you buy a child for christmas and the sort that is seriously raced.
I know that too, they hold a meeting locally where my lad plays football and it always makes me chuckle seeing grown men battling it out against the youngsters in these races.
tbh i get understand your point there, when i was a kid i used to race R/C cars, i got to a position in the club where id progressed to a point where i needed to spend some serious money just to keep up with the adults spending hundreds of pounds a week when i was only on a measly £5 a week pocket money, it was a bit gauling when you realise you cant actually do any better with the gear you;ve got because your competing against people who can afford better gear.

The past few years has actually seen quite a swing and it's no longer nessecary to 'buy' lap times to keep up with the front runners, at least not in off-road. You can get plastic kits that are everybit as quick as the top spec kit. Your thumbs mean a lot more than your kit.
The european championship this year was won by a car which was a prototype of an entry level car. The car can be bought for about £150ish compared to the high level kits at £350-450. Lipo and brushless has also started to help mean that the top guys at the club and the bottom guys are all running the same equipment.
That would be great, think of the events and competitions you could run!

just wondered if anyone on the forum is into RC cars
when i used to race you either had to have a losiXX or an RC-10 to be in the top flight, and then losi brought out the XXX and everyone was screwed, plus you had to add matched batteries (i used to build my own battery packs from individual cells to keep costs down), expensive servos and of course pricey motors and it was just priced too far out of the reach of 'children' and more into the relms of big boys toys. im glad its changed though.
anyone want to buy an ex world team losiXX? graphite and carbon bits ahoy! its fairly scruffy but last time it was used it all worked!maybe i should just buy a new motor and get it working again!
do you have a servo saver fitted on the servo? i ask because any force applied to the wheels in an accident can strip the teeth from the reduction gears in the servo leading to many breakages, a servo saver will prevent this happening.
