Any news of new Nikons?

You imagined it, and now you have to make it reality. Can I send you my address? :)

Hmmmm. If you send me one of your D3 bodies I could lettraset an X on it for you.

Who has one then? They are great studio cameras though (allegedly) so I thought that anyway shooting a lot in the studio would find them useful.

D300 replacement is expected to be DX, otherwise it's more a replacement for the D700 imo. :)

Of course, that's logical! Bit of a stupid question on my part then! :bonk::lol:

I want a D3X

Hell Gary - go get it boy !

I read very recently that Nikon felt the camera market had reached saturation point and the number of new buyers would drastically drop off, with basically the vast majority of future new sales being made up of togs replacing worn out models they have.
If that's their experience / view / research, then surely they'd be drastically cutting back on new model which will have a very limited market and high production / development costs.

OMG, I am sooooooo out of date with a D2X, some old 'D' and DX lenses, and a pair of SB28s..... my pics are just aging as I look at them. I feel like a loser....

You'll just have to give up photography

It's true...those fish are bleeding pixels as we speak...

I just dug out some old Nikon Pro magazines and was looking at the images taken with the (then) 'latest' D1x...
Nothing wrong with them at all...

No, you are clearly mistaken. They are all rubbish now. 5Mp pft

Gary - thought you had a D3x...? Oh no...wait... you didn't buy my spare one that I ended up selling for pocket-change, did you...

ARSE!! :)

I keep thinking, and then my brain kicks in and I realise that if I had £4K for a new body, that I would also have 4K for loads of advertising....the advertising is always going to win for the time being....

I still want one.

Are you finding you still need to advertise as much?
had a few chats with other people about this and apart from a decent website and then shouting about it on FaceBook and Flickr, there seems to be a groundswell of opinion that traditional advertising isn't as cost-effective as we'd all like to believe...
I'd certainly buy the kit first, even if it meant having to hawk flyers round the bazaars on foot if it came to such a choice...

Bizarre timing, about to right a thread (unless my next client comes in first), loosely related to the question you just asked.

i'd happily go for a smaller pixel count (6mp?) with even better low iso and dynamic range :)

I think someone noted that for your line of work, the majority of trade will come from within a 30-mile radius - that's the furthest people are prepared to tarvel for a photo-session...
Different if you travel to the clients, but you have a High-St studio...

Any advertising that covers outside that catchment area is effectively wasted.

Interesting to read that some people think Nikon are falling behind - I don't see that being the case at all, on any of the models! The Nikon lineup is excellent.
I agree. Where I see improvement is the lens lineup. Canon has such a plethora of lenses - with/without USM, with/without IS, various f/2.8 or f/4 zooms - that makes me jealous. And all their lenses work on the consumer enty bodies as well.

One area where Nikon is lagging against the competition is in the area of high resolution, high performance. The D3x is the only Nikon in the current lineup with a pixel count greater than 12Mp, and it slows to under 2fps in 14-bit mode. While this might be fine for the studio, its less than perfect for other forms such as wildlife, and falls well short of the competition.

Looking at the current Canon line up, we have:
=============================
1000D, 10Mp
450D, 12.2
500D, 15.1Mp
550D, 18Mp
50D, 15.1Mp
7D, 18Mp
5DmkII, 21.1Mp
1dmkIV, 16.1Mp
1dsmkIII, 21.1Mp

Compare with the Nikon range:
===================
D3000, 12.3Mp
D5000, 12.3Mp
D90, 12.3Mp
D300s, 12.3Mp
D700, 12.1Mp
D3s, 12.1Mp
D3x, 24.5Mp

there's really very little choice if you want a high resolution camera. I think that this has been recognised by Nikon (see http://www.dpreview.com/news/1002/10022304nikonbalance.asp)

Personally I'm hoping that the D4 will make an appearance this year, at a mid-Mp count between 12 and 24, eg. 18Mp, with similar low light performance to the D3s and full HD video. All at a price of the current D3s :bonk:

I dont see Canon ahead of Nikon (or vice versa) or them getting long in the tooth but I may be just saying this as I have just bought a D700 though lol.
Interestingly just read a site about Nikon beating Canon at the video game with the higher ISO capabilities it has. I genuinely dont think they need to release a higher mp FX cam or update the D700 to have HD video, I think we just expect them to to keeping up with the jones's kinda thang, and they are by no means behind them, they are just doing it differently.

Lemme just put that flame suit on first .....
