If it is a copy, it is very well put together.

I had to loosen off the blade a wee bit and the quality of the screws are way above the ones on that Cima knife!

There is just a midges' didge of a burr near the edge of the point.

Blade now sharp enough for me after a wee go on the strop and Cr2O3 paste.
 
Ah right..just surprised its not 440c as thats what a lot of the cheaper bokers are made from and the retail box on yours looked a little different.

The Astrolux S1 arrived today, only three days since it was posted by Banggood UK warehouse. :)

It's bright, flippin bright in turbo. Has a shed load of working modes including 7 brightness levels from moon to turbo, tactical strobe, bicycle light, battery check. 7 mode or 4 mode and mode memory. You can cycle forwards or backwards through modes. will work with 18650 or 18350 batteries by swapping extension tubes.

I've typed "mode" far too many times here. :)

Last thing I need is to get into torches too, Hugh!

As for the knife, Stuart, I'd be wanting a car to go with it at that price!

I'm interested in this. Do you have any idea of the run times at the various settings? I haven't been able to find these online. I think it's also available in different 'tints' (colour temperatures) but I don't know if this is an option from Banggood? By and large, I prefer the slightly warmer tint of the old incandescent lights to the cold white of most LED flashlights. Malkoff offer this for some of their Surefire replacement heads, but the cost is a bit scary...:eek:
 
Martin have a watch of this video, it's the BLF A6 which is the same torch minus the smaller battery option. The guy tests run times with decent batteries at various settings to give a real life idea of how long it will last.

Thanks Mike, that was very useful. I'll probably get one of these as a general purpose light. Not sure I fully trust any of the multi-mode flashlights for serious applications though. I can't help thinking they're just too complicated for 100% reliability, particularly at the lower price points, and there are some situations where I'd rather go with my old SureFire 6P/G2 despite the 60 lumen output.

The BLF and the Astrolux both have mode memory so they switch on at the last setting you had them at. I have set mine to 4 mode which is low/med/high/turbo without any of the flashy modes and have it coming on at medium setting which is plenty for normal use.
 
Hey, I got a Boker too!! :D

Didn't say anything about it on the FastTech web site but the box and blade are both marked. The small knife is very small, 4cm blade, non locking, needs a clean.

Sure, I'll go along with that and setting it to come on at medium level makes sense. I'm going to buy one, and I'll experiment. My comments about reliability were based on my preference for simplicity in certain situations. A security light only needs two modes, on and off, but it must be completely reliable. It's just my opinion, but I'm convinced that simple devices are less prone to failure than more complex ones, particularly when they're built to very high standards.
 
I know what you mean, I prefer on and off myself. Having different power settings is important on such a powerful light though and being able to set and keep it at one level is good. I have bought many no-name Chinese led torches over the years and the most annoying thing is having to cycle modes every time you switch on.

/edit I forgot, If you order the Astrolux S1 it will most likely come without the short 18350 battery tube, you'll have to ask them to send that on. That said using a decent 18650 battery would be the better choice anyway.

It 'flips' very nicely.
 
It's better than you'd expect for the price, the wood side is nice, the metal side is a little rough and the blade is very sharp. The only downside is a screw missing from the clip.
 
A couple of things from HH, the Boker/Magnum Cuisine III and the storage folio it's lying on.

The Magnum is big which shouldn't have surprised me what with it being a cleaver'n'all :) The folio is meant to take up to 26 knives and as long as they're not huge it will do that nicely. Both items are straight out of the box and both need a good clean. Shown against the Chinese 'Boker' I got the other day for reference.

Like that folio doodah, not so keen on yer cleaver though.

Yes, it's black metal on the other side. Looks good but I'm not terribly impressed with the quality. The clip screws were a bit small and loose so I've had to replace them and there's a fair bit of waggle in the blade once it's open. Still it feels nice, flips easily and looks ok and hey! a Boker for all of £3 can't be bad :)

The folio was £7.95 so a second one won't break the bank.
