Any knife/weapons collectors on here?

Great day for me too with another three knives from Gearbest (just under 3 weeks) and my Cr2O3 paste.

So my latest sharpener cost £1 for a 3" wide real leather belt from a Charity shop and £3.75 for the hard paste:banana:





First knife is a Tekut, never had one before but looks well made with a 7Cr 17MoV blade, very colourful and nearly as sharp as the remaining two Sanrenmu ones.



This Sanrenmu was much lighter than I expected but usual razer sharpness.



Really like this one, very well made and nice feel to it.

 
My technique needs some work but you can see the difference before and after here. This blade was so blunt it would run screaming from a sheet of paper, After twenty passes per side with the 180 grit and a dozen each with the 400/800/1500 it cuts nicely though I can get it better yet. As suspected locking the knife steady on the ramp so that it doesn't rock isn't easy and I think you can see a couple of bevels in the second ( crappy phone) pic.

Love that third Sanrenmu, with the pearl scales, and the leather belt idea :lol: stick it to a piece of wood to keep it flat.

It's just a pity the scales are plastic but it still feels right in the hand.

My favourite is the wee Tekut, although I think it will get scratched quickly.

Anyway that's the one for my wee trial with my new strop and paste (it is stuck down on marine ply, with one side smooth and the other side rougher).

It's nearly 17" long and wide enough for a lot of my blades, think I will try paste on about 8" of the smooth side and see what happens:rolleyes:

What like is the construction side of that, Hugh?

There were reviews of sloppy metal rods making the whole thing move about.
 
The upright does wobble a a small amount but it's the nature of the way it goes together, if it affects the angle of attack it's going to be by micro degrees though. The shaft pushes into the base and then turns to lock(ish), it can't lock too hard because the post needs to swivel a wee bit to allow you to move the stones along the blade. I found the handle rod would snag on the plastic guide when pushing/pulling but a wee spot of silicone grease sorted that. Overall it's well made, as I said before in it builds easily and breaks down easily. I've not tried the suction cups on a smooth surface yet but it doesn't seem to be an issue because you're holding the blade onto the ramp and that keeps it steady.

Comparing this to the Lansky Deluxe system I'd say this wins easily, it's bigger, has longer stones, is much less of a fuss to build up and is safer to use.

Nice additions Mike! Like the colour of the tekut,think they do one called the "peck" nearly hit buy button on that a few times.Well had a brief(very brief) play with the sharpmaker from spyderco and have to say I am impressed!I would say it gets a sharper edge than the crock sticks for sure.Not loads sharper but its noticable and it gets the edge with much less work IMO.Nice to have larger rods as well for use with bigger knives etc.Just pondering now over that boker albatross..its in my cart just not pressed buy button yet!:confused:

Speaking as someone who makes his own falconry "furniture" that's very nice leather work as well :thumbs:
 
Well, managed to totally blunt my Tekut, not once but bleedin twice!

Luckily my crock sticks came through for me, after a lot of work.

Time to find some more tutorials on YouTube!

I can't decide if I like that Magnum or not, it's too much like a Spyderco for my tastes but it's chunky and looks tough.
 
Its a cracking knife mate for the money and very comfy in the hand.
 
Nice stuff, Stuart, I love the shape of that magnum blade.

Was it sharp out of the box?
 
Cheers mate... The magnum was pretty sharp to be fair but 10 minutes on the sharp maker it's razor sharp
 
Heads up, FastTech are posting sharps 'cheap' again, oddly today I ordered a couple of small knives and tried to add a bluetooth headset and the cheap delivery option vanished. Apparently because it has a lithium battery in it no-one will carry it??
 
Thats good to know mate..may have to go take a look although think the mrs will hang me if I spend anymore this weekend!!

One thing's for sure, their Sanrenmu knives are dearer than GearBest!

Just ordered a Wilderness knife, looks like it will cost the same in £ as it does in $ delivered?

Rate of exchange is getting really crap these days.

Just ordered a couple from GearBest and the final cost was over a £ more than the the initial cart price!

Didn't have any points with FastTech, I did use some in GearBest but I had taken free postage.

My moan is the fact that the total £ price changes upwards, at the final payment stage and has done for a wee while now too!
 
Hadn't noticed that, I'll have to watch out for it.
 
Well that's two knives coming from GearBest and one from FastTech, both shipped the today.

I wonder whose will get here first?
 
heheh I'll race you, two from GB yesterday and two from FastTech not sent yet.

Actually my GB order was split and is coming by two different carriers.

Yeah its a little different but very ergonomic! Sharp as hell out the box and very nice sheath. Aus 8 steel so not too bad at all.Under £25 as well from HH
 
First thought was ooh heck, I can see it being very comfortable to use.
 
I'm not a collector, this is for my use...
But I've just bought myself a smellie - a Lee Enfield .303 in pristine condition, built in 1942. it's beautifully engineered and arguably the finest bolt action rifle ever.

The story is that a massive quantity of them were sent out to our Italian allies when they changed to our side in WW2 but, accidentally or otherwise we forgot to include any ammo, so they have been stored ever since:)
It came with ghost sights, which flip between 300 and 600 yards, but I've now got the proper ladder sight for it.
 
I remember having to strip down 303s when i was a young lad in army cadets and also running across a field with one raised above my head as punishment for being disruptive!:rolleyes:

My earliest memory is even older, when I was about 10. My dad was an army sniper and he somehow ended up with one and "taught" me to fire it in the back garden - can you imagine what would happen today if someone did that? Anyway, it was too heavy for me to hold so he showed me how to shoot prone, problem is I was lying on concrete and was a skinny kid, and the recoil sent me flying back, I lost a lot of skin from my elbow and legs, put me off just a bit...
