I'm currently spending some time on improving the SEO of my newly put together website and wondered if anyone had any good sites/suggestions for good quality backlinks?

thanks

Simon

It's not like in the old days.

Google recognise link farms, and penalise sites that try to use them for SEO.

So the only way to build links is naturally and organically. You can add links on forums, on other photographers blogs, by posting pictures on other sites - walking, holidays, tourism (this is guesswork based on your specialism).

Basically Google rates sites as trusted content providers, and getting links on 'good' sites is worth more than links on untrusted sites. It's obvious if you look at what Google is looking for, rather than trying to 'game the system'. Google wants to deliver sites that are respected by customers and peers, that are quoted by other sites as being a useful resource.

They don't want to be fooled into delivering a site that's rubbish but spent some money having links put all over the internet. - Of course they're happy to promote sites that are rubbish that paid them for adverts:naughty:

You could create an about me page in ebay, that's if you have an ebay account. It allows you to place your URL web address in your profile page.

Link building seems the way to go so new thread just about to start.... Simon

Link building is just one of many aspects of creating a good website, and I will say that if you are just starting a new website then IMO it is one of the least important.

You should concentrate on building a site which is good enough to attract good quality links which will come naturally over time and that is what Google likes to see.

Apart from that time wasted on trying to get links is time better spent on improving your site.

Also people who have a good quality site will not be interested in exchanging links with someone whose site rates a lot lower than theirs.

Thanks Peter...

the reason for my renewed website is exactly for the reason you suggest, I've been on the web for 6 yrs and had google 1st page positions for most of that time, the latest Google update caucght me sat on my laurels though and my site fell off the 1st page, the renewed site is still being worked on but is already better than my last one, I think so anyway.

I'me trying to build the site and spend some time on SEO at the same time which seems sensible, just trying to figure out the best way forward for the SEO really
