Another picture of Nikon D700 on Chinese site

Looks fake to me...

The D700 will be announced 1st July, but this isn't it.

Think I agree. The 7 on the strap doesnt look quite right??

Why oh why oh why can't these shysters be bothered to make them look authentic?

The lettering on the D700 on the camera isn't even all the same size!

:lol::lol:
I'm rubbish at photoshop. So which camera is it based on? Is there a way at checking the image for photoshopping?

D300. Same body shape and prism chamber etc. Same dustcaps for the flashsync etc.

Just the letters donlt look the same size and they are on all the other nikons!

It has the D700 terminal caps. The letters are the same size to the pixel and appear different due to warping, in a way consistent with the curvature of the D300 body. I can't see any signs of photoshopping at high magnifications.

If this is a fake then it's an incredibly skillful one.

I,ve just read this on another forum, does anyone know if this is gospel or just more rumours

Well I've read that too, but its hard to say really... Nikon aren't denying it and said that it comes form the same publishing people. The weird thing to me is that the version they haven't denied doesn't have a flash, while the later 'real' pic does have a flash... And the business strategy just seems odd to me, unless its really not out for another few months because people will stop buying D300's and possibly even reconsider buying a D3.

I kind of expect the non flash version to be more realistic but for more money than people keep speculating or else, why would people bother with the D300 and D3? It needs to be priced carefully to be a good business move for Nikon imo.

If you zoom in you can see the 7 on the camera still has the curve of the top of the 2

Could be an expensive month ahead. New iPhone, and now the prospect of a D700 FX... One of those would definately replace my D300 without a doubt.

I'm certainly considering the D700. The D300 never floated my boat, so I skipped - I think we all knew the D700 was coming, but definitely not as soon!

Indeed. I only bought the D300 as a backup really. I use the D3 99% of the time as I don't really like the IQ of the D300 ( I don't think it's much of a step up from the D2x ). If I'd known the D700 was gonna come so soon I would have waited.

I didn't like the D300 IQ at all. The character is completely "un-Nikon" like.

I shot with a D300, a D2X and an S5 Pro from end November 2007 through til mid-December as I really didn't like what the D300 was putting out.

For low ISO the D300 is a clear step down from the D2X. I hope the D700 addresses this!

I only got one because I couldn't afford another D3 :(

Even with the D3 I miss ISO100 on the D2x. I don't think the D700 will address that TBH, but I'll happily be proved wrong if the ISO on the D700 goes lower. In fact I'd be happy for the D700 to loose a bit of the high ISO from the D3, but gain some more on the low ISO, and be full frame. In fact, that's what I'm really hoping for.

Was giong to post that the pic was a d300 photoshopped, but someone else did it!
I`ll get me coat........

Just think about it-nikon would be silly to put out a camera body pre launch date-wouldnt they-so everyone in the world is debating if its real-so when it does come to launch date-everyone and their cat knows about it.

Clever marketing ploy if you ask me

Case rested.

Seriously though, does it really matter?

Nikon WILL release a mid-range FX camera, the spec will be the same as the d300 but with a full frame sensor and I doubt much will be different other than that. maybe a slightly slower frame-rate but I doubt it.

It WILL be more expensive. I'd imagine around the £1500-£1700 mark to slot in nicely between the d300 and the D3.

It WONT be available for ages unless Nikon have been secretly manufacturing it for 6 months to build up enough stock to supply initial demand. How long did it take for the D3 to become widely available. Admittedly, it's a pro body and NPS members got priority service which slowed things down a bit but I wouldn't count on being able to get hold of one much before christmas!

I'll be getting one about this time next year when a) I've saved up for it and some glass to do it justice b) when the price has dropped a bit and c) I know if it's actually worth getting one as it will have been extensively field tested by all the tech-freaks who simply must have the latest gadgets.

Until then I'll be actually taking photo's rather than talking about it.

Maybe.

If it ever stops raining.

True.

Leak a few salient details. Get everybody talking about it and wind up the hype/presales. Check forums and peoples comments on internet to see what people want/expect/disappointed about. Fiddle with firmware accordingly. release product.

That's what I'd do anyway if I was working for Nikon's Marketing/R&D departments.

I never really understood that. NPS only got priority at Nikon Dealers that wanted to give NPS priority. I ordered mine form a Nikon pro dealer, I'm not NPS, and got mine a couple of weeks after they officially shipped. It was never a requirement from Nikon UK that NPS members got their cameras first.

IMO the reason the D3 wasn't widely available was down to demand. I don't think anyone, even Nikon, could have predicted the sheer number of sales they would need to fulfil in such a short space of time. I just don't think they had any idea how many Canon shooters would be clambering for one due to the problems with the Mk111's

Ah, I was under the impression that the NPS thing was part of the reason initial supply was low. I stand corrected.

The AF and high ISO performance are what I would be after from the D300. :)

Neither are a huge leap from the D2x. I'm waiting for a D700 now but I was about to sell the D300 and buy another D2x.

Indeed, as posted in #12 and quoted in #14.

Its like Groundhog Day :)
