When approaching a roundabout in a car it should be that you can only turn left. Just think how quicker the traffic will flow, no holdups.

Hehe, it would make planning a journey interesting. It reminds me of the stories (not sure if there is any truth in them) of people who allegedly only ever turn left because they don't like crossing traffic to turn right.:)

Christ you'd be going round in never ending squares in Milton Keynes :jawdrop:

There's a couple of junctions/pull-outs locally where I'll more often than not turn left to go right due to traffic flow or sight lines.

The one where I do it most often is one where matched gaps in the traffic to cross and go right are as rare as hen's teeth, but there's a roundabout 50 metres to the left. At peak times you'll often find several cars waiting to turn right but if you go passed them, left, round the roundabout and back you'll see them still waiting at the junction hoping for a matched gap in the traffic streams.

The local Toolstation is about 50m from a roundabout if you turn left and the exit is clearly marked as turn left only but at least 50% of white van persons (yes, including women!) ignore the instruction and wait to turn right. It's far quicker to turn left, hook round the roundabout and double back on yourself let alone safer! Does mean turning right at the roundabout though!

From time to time the lights on one of the arterial routes on the edge of town crap out. When that happens, traffic flows MUCH better as a plain roundabout than as a light controlled one, even at rush hours.

Want to turn right? easy! turn left, 180deg handbrake turn across the lane, repeat as often as needed till your next left is the road you want.

Unfortunately there is some truth to this, my sister in law will travel many miles in order not to turn right. She can get to our house using the shortest route by only turning left so she's ok with that, but going home means she has to travel through the next town to find a route that suits her. If she and her husband should visit us using their own cars for some reason, it's very strange watching them go home at the same time, at the bottom of our street he turns right and she turns left. Personally I think she should have her licence taken off her, but then again she's not doing anything wrong I suppose.

Could be interesting in Milton Keyns with all those roundabouts :D

I remember the joke about looking out for cars in MK with skeletons in them; folks lost in the roundabout maze who'd run out of fuel, then starved to death.

Apart from the MK road planners you mean? ;0)
Scoff all you like, what other major city (Ok so its a town really) has 70mph duel carriage ways running vertically and horizontally through it? :p
And most of the time you can do that speed as well, but I know that one day, it'll get grid locked, especially with the MK Dons Fiasco of a stadium, the MK Bowl concerts and of course CMK shoppers.

Any more p*** takers? :p

Sound like they are the same team as here at Folkestone as the old one way system are being altered into as two-way roads around here. Ever since that took place a year ago, not a day went by without hearing news of a prang (usually minor ones).

Really ??, I've been gridlocked coming off the M1 many times :p

Thats not grid locked that's the stupid queue through the road works.
Besides, you should have turned left then right and cut through the back way, that's always clear ;)
Bedides The J13 road is now fully open, a duelled for about 3/4 of its length ...
Still waiting for the rest that was promised though. :(

Now you tell me :p it's ok not a problem these days(y)

planners have no idea what they're doing, in Warrington a new Lidl has opened just off a huge roundabout , to get to it it's a right turn from the 3rd lane, but the second lane feels like it's the correct lane because the road is that wide from lane 3 you feel like you're driving diagonally across the all the lanes to be in the correct lane for lidl

the upshot is when it's busy 2 into 1 don't go

On the M6 A580 junction , A580 dual carriageway you used to go round the roundabout under the M6 to go N or S , now they've made R&L turns from the dual carriageway

a few weeks ago in the morning somebody jumped the lights, 2 cars clipped each other, broken glass a bit of a dent, coming back in the evening in exactly the same spot there was a 4x4 on it's roof , that's 2 in a day that I saw, how many times is it happening

They should use the turn left option only at the Magic Roundabout in Hemel. It would make you think more of what angle to attack is best.

I love that roundabout  While people are stuttering and fluffing about,
I'm around it and gone, its only been there since the early 70's you'd have thought that people would have got the hang of it by now though, wouldn't you? .

Makes me laugh watching people that have never used it before :D

I found the best way to approach it is if you get enough speed down the 414 you can go straight across and fly over the water. Mind the speed camera though :)

Hemel Pah, that's but a toy
Try the Magic Roundabout in Swindon.
