I`m off to Anglesey for a day or two later this month, anyone recommend places for wildlife, never been since I got interested in photography,

Whenever I go to Anglesey, I tend not to be going to take photos. But these are the areas I would go to find wildlife:

Gogarth area for nesting birds - I know there are climbing restrictions on there from February to July. Likewise for South Stack. For bird life, I should imagine anywhere coastal will be good, the Menai Straits will no doubt have waders at low tide as it is muddy.

Newborough Warren and forest is a nature reserve, so there should be some wildlife around, if not there should be some good opportunities for landscape / sea scapes.

I think there is a sea life centre / zoo thing somewhere, and also a butterfly place too if that tickles your fancy (I haven't been to either, so can't comment on how good they may be)

Hope that helps give you some ideas.

Google things to do in Anglesey and it will give you loads of info, also google wildlife on Anglesey and another sight is RSPB and find Anglesey.

At Valley oppositethe RAF station you've got Valley Wetlands (just opposite my house) its a group of ponds, some good birds on there, as already mentioned you've got Southstack, Newborough forest, you've also got Penrhos coastal park where you've got ponds, woods and the beach all in one.

Will have a look today for you and see if I can suggest any other places :)

The main ones for wildlife are covered really, South Stack being the main one.

You might catch a few glimpses of porpoise at Penmon point & if you're very lucky Newborough forest is home to red squirrels, they're very elusive though.

Cemlyn bay is an Rspb nature reserve, they filmed some of the BBC Springwatch there last year

Could always head south east and take a boat trip from Beaumaris out to Puffin island for a glimpse of seals and the occasional puffin (bring a long lens). Penmon is a must for the lighthouse shot but I often take a picnic and sit and watch the seals there... bring your own doves and let them loose in the old monks dovecot for that authentic feel.

A little further north and east will get you to Red Wharf Bay and Benllech beach which can be good for waders (and there is a decent pub down there). Also right next to this is Cors Goch National Nature Reserve (I have never been here but with a name like that it has to be good, right?)

Or start out on the south west of the island and head to Newborough forest. I strongly suggest you make the beach walk out to Llanddwyn island. Simply beautiful with a broken down monastery, rugged cliffs on one side and sandy coves the other. you will definitely see birds, the odd lizard if its warm, some sort of dwarf pony and some form of rare shaggy sheep species.... hell they even have pillow lava flows on the beach. Also right next to this on the A4080 toward Maltreath sands is a "wildlife pool" signposted off the road.. a maintained lake to the rest of us.

If you were to continue west from here you would end up at Aberffraw that has some of the most bizarre landscape anywhere made up of rolling sand dunes.

Further North and West gets you to Rhoscolyn. One of the prettiest parts of the Anglesey coastal walk and full of dramatic cliffs and swirling waters... seen lots of herons and seals from here.. also a FANTASTIC pub the white eagle is here.

Further north west leads you to South stack which has already been mentioned but is rammed with birds and if your up near Holyhead there is a Lama farm I believe

North East brings you to Dulas Bay.. again I have never been but friends tell me the little islands off the coast are rammed with birds and they should be accessible with a locally hired boat.

Further south and east brings you out at Llandonna which has an enormously flat beach that runs for miles.. which I suspect will be utterly useless for wildlife spotting but the hills above it (look for the TV mast) is full of bats. So go at twilight with a thermos and something to sit on. Just try not to get guano on your lens.

And that more or less brings you back to Beaumaris where you can stop off for a coffee in Sarahs Deli or pile on the pounds in the red boat ice cream shop.

There.. that's my bit done for the Anglesey tourist board.

Thanks for all that, didn`t know there was so much to see in Anglesey, should keep me occupied
