An Independent Scotland?

Salmond speaking at 21:00 tonight. Last ditch attempt to win over the undecided. I thought Gordon Browns speech was very good.

I wonder what will happen about the security services- MI5, MI6 etc
Would Scotland do without?
What will happen about protecting the country from cyber threats?
What about extremists? Jihadists?

They say, they are going to form their own version, which if UK History is anything to go by, when we have had a left wing Government the size and funding of MI5/6 has gone up, so would probably happen.
What they are going to do though is a different matter.
Most intelligence is UK/US eyes only....of course there's a Country missing there. So there's a problem straight away.

lets face it you also need to look at some other specialist parts of the MOD such as Royal Marines, SAS and such,

Again, they say they are going to form a special forces unit, and a Marines branch of thier armed forces. I'd be surprised if the second happens, though, they need experience, and thats not likely to happen, why exchange a life that you joined up for, with a life of looking pretty outside a castle somewhere?

The SNP's defence plans have been described as amateur, and there's a very long report which rips it to bits, with very good supporting evidence. Unsurprisingly Hugh (that well known military expert) dismissed it as right wing propaganda.

Brown should have been the leader of the No campaign, a much better orator than Darling. The polls are saying the result will be tighter than 2 coats of paint. If it is a No I really hope we don't hear about independence for a good long while.

Just about to head into Perth City centre - to take my daughter to an appointment.

I've now discovered Salmond and the Yes mob are also here tonight at the concert hall

I'll need to hang about for an hour so may take the camera.

Well I infiltrated the ranks and got right to the front (careful to stay behind) the TV cameras. Managed to get up close and personal to Nicola sturgeon (she really is the little one from the Krankies) and got some shots whilst listening to her speak. I got the dark haired female politician too but I can't recall her name. All very busy and rowdy, police, sing songs, pipes and lots of drunk youngsters trying to get on telly.

Sadly I only had my compact and the light was all but gone but good fun all the same.

Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon are performing in my local tonight so I'll see what they have to say.

Did they look like this?

Perhaps I should explain that these two fat cat are the McCoons - Dizzy [silver tabby] and Abby [red] are two of our Maine Coons who were bred in and we collected from Dundee. They're very greedy fat cats and food orientated so for several years, long before the referendum, we've called them "I-like-salmon" and "Nick-a-lot-of-sturgeon"

Detail my friend, detail....Don't worry about silly little things like that...In a socialist nirvana nobody will do harm, they are pacifist, they are lovers, they'll sit on the fence and watch, nobody will harm them....

Yeah right...

Are you scaremongering :D
No, actually.
I'm wondering what provision Scotland would have to implement these type of services for its own defence.
The Country Formerly Known as the United Kingdom would not have to provide this service to the New Country. :)
Would Scotland have access to GCHQ?

These are very important considerations in today's World with credible threats to Western nations.

Scotland would most definitely not have access to GCHQ, Military Intelligence, no any other agency, other than what we want them to know or share just like we do with other countries through reciprocal arrangements. However their borders would be a serious concern of ours, just like the Irish borders are...And just like those from France and Belgium....But automatic data sharing, no way...

As I say, it will be a gravy train for consultancy with lots of big fat juicy contracts to get their capability up on all matters of expertise, from taxation, through healthcare, to defence, policing, intelligence, agriculture you name it they'll need it....Better get printing that money as it won't be cheap...

I should say I am in England any genuine enquiry is scaremongering

The press suggested the American who broke USA secrets will be offered a home in Scotland maybe his knowledge would do

I could not see that rUK would give free information and it makes me consider a border as a possibility

The USA would not be keen on sharing intelligence given the Scottish Trident position

Not sure who would be the natural country that would offer intelligence if it was me I would want a Scottish service as a matter of urgency

See one of the bookies is paying out early for 'no' bets! What does that say......

Anyways fellow TP members it's a few hours the voting starts and less than 36 hours we will all know the result

If I was the bookies I would not have paid out yet I hope that Scotland remains in the union, oddly I do think that yes could well do it

I think yes voters don't care about consequence and I said from my first post in here I think you can make it on your own will you be better that I have huge doubts about

Yes says you are not going anyway I really think that's the biggest deception I could probably list a hundred things that will change but the time is past

Good luck all of you especially the no camp my fingers are crossed for you

From Allan in NE England please all take care no violence and all be well at the weekend

:) :) :) :) :) :agree::ty: And goodnight :D :D :exit::exit: :exit: :exit: :exit: :exit:

Cheers Allan

Should be an exciting day and a bit ahead.

I live in a wee village and just glancing out of my window now I can see folk busy setting the hall up ready for the early start tomorrow.

I stick a few quid on Yes to soften the blow ;) but I'm hoping for a No.

Bottom line - if the yes / no case was put in front of a court of law or a clued up panel - we'd be looking at a clear no.

Despite how lame the yes campaign is, I accept everybody's vote counts equally however, I suspect Salmond's childlike, cringeworthy and frankly irresponsible campaign will succeed by snagging enough of those with no political interest or know how.

Taken in August please don't let my visit that was taken in the UK be the last that it can be said about Scotland and the union

Fortifications by -Allan Pedley-

Been coming to Scotland for over 50 years you are my wealthy northern neighbours from the north

Best wishes from the very low income NE England see poverty in action :ty:

Why is it a joke? If you knew the tune you'd understand.

Rocked up - big drums. Perhaps more impactive and could be taken seriously if it it was played on a traditional instrument. Would of been more emotive it was. A truly horrible musical arrangement !

It will be an interesting 24 hours. But at least. Nice break in news reporting.

should be good TV today - starting at 10am
I thought no reporting was allowed via broadcast media until after the voting has finished?

Are you suggesting being Scottish removes one's sense of aesthetics? ;)
No, I'm merely implying that if he was Scottish, his view may have been slightly different. At the end of the day, there are more important issues to be sorted out than which music should have been/not been played.

Not really much point in being petty now though, is there?

It'll just be all the usual stuff from the last few weeks/months rehashed.
Which is not allowed. Not even news paper headlines are in relationship to the Scotland vote are allowed to be broadcasted. Very strange rule I think.

What? Just today you mean? Didn't know that. It will all be this poll said this, that poll said that etc.

If it is not illegal how can it be stopped especially in the rest of the UK

?

All the scots curently working for the UK security services will get laid off as suspect foreign nationals (apart from those retained to spy on iScotland of course), so they can go form a Scots Secret Service ;)

criticising the media coverage as portraying an image of Scotland as a country which is about to fall apart at the seams. They stated that whilst the debating had been robust, the vast majority of it has been good natured. They also criticised the no campaign for exaggerating claims of aggression.

A spokesman said "what you southern jessies dinna understand is that fighting in the streets is part of our cultural heritage, jes because someone gets a bottle in the face of a freeday nigh' doenae mean our country is falling apart, it means things are as they always have been "

Good luck to the Scots. I'll be sad to see you go but you're not really going that far.
