I have no axe to grind with this lady -I thought she was an awesome talent and yet another one wasted at the age of 27.

With reference to your post neil g.........the problem here is in the last word. Celeb status is what it's all about these days:shake:

No no I have no need to fall out with you lol. I'm over it Tbh if my mom couldn't do it for her kids then why should I keep standing by her? Same goes for amy, she couldn't do it for her family or career despite all the help she had. No falling out here though ;-)
 
In all honesty I have no sympathy for the woman, yes its sad that someone lost their life, but it was a life she gave up willingly. People can defend her in that it was her status, being a celeb or mucking around with the wrong crowd that led her to drink and drugs, but that excuse can only be held so far before she had to admit responsibility for her own actions. I have heard of junkies who havent had a pot to wee in and no hope. yet they have completely turned their lives around and come clean to return to normal. Amy had money, she had help and she was given oppertunity after oppertunity, even more so than some poor people who wern't given a chance, and she just wee'd it up the wall and self destructed. sometimes 2nd chances are only worthy of those who really deserve them, and i'm sorry to say, she wasn't one of them.

I commented on the death of Amy Winehouse and another poster asked why mo comments about the slaughter on Norway. I was just trying to point out that by commenting on one subject, no ignorance of any other tragedy is implied
 
it's a sad story about her drug addictions, but as people say... live by the sword, die by the sword

Sad waste of a life, made even sadder for the talent that is gone with her. We all have a choice of how we live our lives and she made the wrong one, once hooked and on the downward spiral I reckon it's near impossible to get off, the drugs **** up your brain so much you can't make those vital decisions.
Some people make it but many more don't and short of locking her away for the rest of her life what could anyone else do to help?

i wasnt saying about on here. i was commenting on peoples priorities as i saw them on facebook.
 
Have to admit, I'm not at all a big fan of her, I never even listen to her music and all I know of her is her being ******ed or drugged up, hardly the ideal role model for teenagers and such-like. I'm only sad that she couldn't handle the fame and ended up paying the price for it. Shouldn't really come as a surprise at the end of the day but there you go.
I'm hoping that any upcoming new star or starlet will learn by what had happened to Amy and don't end up making the same mistakes.

I fully agree with you. It seems that a celebrity snapping a nail is more tragic to some people than the decimation of a small town. I'm sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick.

Yes, more people are going to be discussing Amy because more people know of her. I bet half of todays kids couldn't even point to Norway on a map.
Those slaughtered in Norway are anonymous, they have names we the public have never heard of. They're distant, they're....for want of a better phrase 'turnoffable'.
Amy Winehouse though was at the forefront of the media. She's a name everyone knew, you could sing a song in a pub and I bet 99% of them would know her name from it.

That's the difference, that's the power the media and consumer culture has over society. A power we've given them.

I loved this ladies voice, it was soulful and certainly different. Such a bloody tragic loss of life especially at such a young age, wether she be famous or not,to die so young is tragic.

I think that's why this forum has to be so well moderrated at times....because there is such a vitriolic vein running through it!
Why would anyone take the time to comment on someone they clearly have no interest in?

Very sad news tonight....Amy was obviously into something she had no chance of escaping from.
A very naturally talented, gifted musician.

#56. The addiction was her own doing, short of starting to drink or take drugs before the age of 11 she will have been aware of the dangers. If you're stupid enough to do it in the first instance then expect to suffer the consequences.
#57. There is every difference between the Norway tragedy and AW.
The Norwegians are innocent victims, their deaths were not self induced. That is the definition of a tragic or sad loss.
If Miss Whitehouse died as a result of drink of drugs, that is a sad or tragic life, not what I would call a sad or tragic loss, as harsh as it may sound.
 
It has not been announced what she died of yet .
 
It wasn`t aimed at you Neil, just a general statement. Yeah she had a drug problem, a drink problem and it was probably that that killed her, but we don`t know yet.
 
this really isnt the thread for arguing is it? no-one had started a thread about norway, so those of you on your high horse that some others think its sad that AW has died might like to think about that before getting all moral about it. I think what happened in Norway is a huge tragedy and unthinkable that things like that happen, I also think that the death of AW is tragic.

those that are keeping score should also note that the Somalia famine, the car crash that people died in, the 5 people poisoned in hospital, soldiers dying and countless other things are all tragedys, they wont all get a mention though, that doesnt mean people dont think of them.

And another point, she was someones daughter/sister, those people will miss her dreadfully.

I`m usually pretty hard assed about death, but she was only 27 for christs sake.
 
she had a good voice when she was on the top of her game - however going on stage drunk or high as she often did and mubling throough half a set forgetting the words is hardly a great act.

Personally I think she should have listened to all those guys who told her to go to rehab, but in her own words "I said, no no no"
