Americans are not stupid.........

oh dear. That makes me feel sad........ but glad I have never been there.......

 Why am I not surprised? :D

Oh dear! Not good... funny though!

But it does make you wonder what the answers would have been over here? :suspect:

Personally, I'd be confident on every one.... but speak for yourself......

Oh I think I'd have been ok

Actually the strangest thing I find about Americans is that individually they can be the kindest most considerate people you could come across. But if you get more than three of them together they almost change personality and become brash and arrogant... strange.

Just a personal opinion of course, I'm not trying to start a war!

In a country big enough to fit the entire UK over forty times and a population of over three hundred million it's not going to be hard to find some that don't have sparks quite as bright as the rest.

I'm pretty sure if you go to any country and do the same and then edit or cherry pick the people that didn't have a clue then it would have the same result.

To go camp bastion and then tell me this again..... There not very clever atall...

Actually I think it's a very fair representation. In general they have little to no knowledge of the world outside of their borders. Try finding international news on the TV when there, it's almost impossible. It's even hard finding CNNInternational, and CNN and FOX News et al are VERY focussed on the USA. It may sound harsh, but in general, Americans are ignorant.

this isnt representative at all of americans, it's a funny video for sure. But they've just shown the stupid ones, I could go out and pick 30 stupid brits and ask them as many questions they'd get wrong. A large percentage of the people I work with on a daily basis are american and they wouldn't have answered any of these questions incorrect.

Although that's true it's amazing that people can get some of these questions wrong. How
Many sides does a triangle have? Everyone should know that.
What's happening in the middle east is a different story, you can find people who don't know that everywhere.

im sure those two people do know how many sides a triangle has. I bet the unedited section of those clips had them saying afterwards "No, wait, duh!!!! it's 3 of course!"

You've seen it many times on quiz shows when people are put on the spot they sometimes have a brain failure and spout out something really stupid. They probably asked that question to 300 people and just found two stupid answers and cut out the part when they realised what they had said.

I could pick a dozen people from my work place that could not answer these questions and there are only 100 here. If you stop a load of Brits in the street and fire random questions out of the blue at them they'll not be able to answer.

I'd love to know how many on this forum wrongly said the currency of the UK was the Pound. :)

I've lived in the same village for 50 years, and someone stopped me and ask where Market Street was, I just could not think where it was, yet it's the main road through the village, I just was caught off guard and went blank.

You get the same old crap about Americans when people say that half of them don't have a passport or travel abroad, well the USA is the size of Europe, and now many Europeans have never travel outside of Europe, I'd wager more than half.

Now I'm not pick on you Lynton , but your first post is a reflection of many peoples thinking, " Americans are stupid, glad I've NEVER been there" America is not just what you see on TV.

To be honest, there's a few parts I would love to visit...........:lol:

And no Florida, California, NY, LA are not anywhere near the top of the list.

2nd weekend of April at a certain golf course in Augusta would be nice.... apart from "you da man" and "get in the hole"

New Orleans would be cool, as would all the deep south.

I've known and worked with a lot of Americans and, by and large, thoroughly enjoyed it. Good guys, and some have become friends. I'd love to visit the US.

Well today I love the Americans, anyone who can produce lusciousness like peanut butter M & Ms can't be bad. One of our offices sent us over a couple of bags of them and they are great :D

We in the UK have the rest of the world on our doorstep and very few of them speak the same language as us naturally so we grow up with a much more international viewpoint, growing up in the USA they can be thousands of miles away from a person who speaks a different language (excluding Spanish) so their attitudes and the things that are important to them are different. Ask the right question and you'll get a better answer. It's ignorant to say that Americans are ignorant.

+1

The rest of the world gets influenced by America but the Americans don't get influenced by the rest of us so they are kind of in their cocoon on the most part.....

Mind you it would be interesting to conduct the same interviews in North Korea ... not sure whether to laugh or cry on that one. Saw a really interesting BBC documentary on North korea with lots of interviews with those that escaped, and students there, even a soldier, and their economic minister.... was really eye-opening.

No California

So that's a no to Yosemite National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Death Valley National Park, Mojave National Preserve, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, Tahoe National Forest and many other National forests and parks, along with San Francisco, Alcartraz , San Diego, and lets not forget 17 Mile drive, passing Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Cypress Point Golf courses, and what about going down the PCH passing Big Sur, and the fantastic coastal scenery.

California is big very BIG, it's not just LA, and Beverly Hills 90210

Now California is great, but for me Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota are better still. :) , but I still fancy doing a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway, with a bit of Nashville and Memphis thrown in.

Loving the irony in us "intelligent" Brits who can't work out that maybe, just maybe the people who answered with the correct answers are not on that video!!!

I've never read such rubbish, and you've also forgotten about Canadian French. In this age of total access to everything via the www there is no excuse for not being aware of the world outside of their borders. I have traveled a lot out there and always come back thinking that they have a great country, populated by the ignorant.
I would also suggest that the USA having a military presence in more than 100 countries should mean that the population should be more worldly wise.

I see what your saying, but as above, when you think of California and having not been there, it is very different to your perception, what you mean is no tourist typical California la beaches and theme parks. The rest of California is money and the Americans from California have been some of my favourite Americans, less brash and loud than a lot of the rest of the us.

My favourite part of the us was Boston, real down to earth people, some decent history and just a great place to go and have a few beers.

Also really enjoyed the deep south, savannah and Atlanta in particular, it is a different world down there. Chicago is the place I wish I had seen more of and Washington dc was a lot more relaxed and subdued than I ever thought.

I really enjoy visiting different parts of the US there's a lot to see.

ok I'll let California in..... as long as I can bypass LA.

I saw a video on Youtube with me, Brian Cox and Stephen Hawking in it - so everyone from the UK has a PhD, right?

:lol::lol:

yep there are a few thick Brits around too.............

I would not call any of them thick Brit or US. I think if you gave them the questions on paper and said you would pick it up in a 1/2 hour they would have done a lot better, time to think. Also there are a lot of people around the world who don't give a rats a** about who is running another country or whats going on there...not thick just no interest.
Maybe the thick ones are the ones that make blanket statements about something.

Not to mention that he asks "Name a british car manufacturer." to which no one has the answer and he suggests "Rolls Royce" - who's car division is owned by BMW, with Bentley owned by VAG....

At the rate exam passes increase year after year, they will soon. :shake:

I am sure ignorance has no national bounds.

Name a country starting with a 'U'? Yugoslavia.......

I did like the way it's easy to sway people with mis-information... the world map with the country names changed around was good.

Quite honestly, if spot tested on any of those questions, I'd fancy my chances..

No need for paper or 30 mins.
