Hi guys, im about to buy this lens from Amazon.
Here

I just want to confirm that i am buying from Amazon itself rather than a third parter vendor, and that i have the normal consumer rights as far as warranty and all that good stuff is concerned.

Am i good to go?

Cheers:thumbs:

I regularly use the search tools on the left side to look ONLY at items delivered by Amazon. Things like memory cards are too often faked and I trust Amazon more than the sellers

But Yvonne is right - You have nothing to worry about. The text will always confirm the seller.

Exactly what I was about to post :)

I've always wondered what they mean when they say this:

In stock but may require up to 2 additional days to deliver.
Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.

Does that mean they have to bring it in from a European warehouse or something? For something like a lens, it might be worth checking into...

Chris No. it will be in the UK.

If sold by Amazon.eu then they sometimes come from places like Fr or De.

Why would it be worth checking? The lens is made in China - no matter where you buy it.

Transaction complete without a hitch, confirmation email received.

It did say on the confirmation webpage "from Amazon EU Sàrl. Estimated shipping date 21 Oct 2011"

Hope the EU bit isnt a problem. I assume the estimated shipping date is the date they'll dispatch, rather than the expected delivery date?

Cheers guys!

I was just wondering, in case Tamron lenses have to be sourced from the UK for warranty purposes... There's a thread on here about a Sigma lens that was supposedly from Amazon's UK stock, but turned out to be an import (although whether that was from Europe or further afield, I can't remember...)

It will come from a european centre then. My last one came from Amazon Fr (France) but have had a few packages - hard drives and other PC/Photo related stuff from around Europe.

It will be fine and is covered the same as anything else you buy. If you don't like it they will take it back.

Yes that's a good point. But as you bought it in the UK - you will have a UK receipt, it should be ok and will be covered by Amazon anyway.

I think Europe is ok as I believe the grey market is Asia based (china/Singapore/HongKong) where prices are much cheaper.

Yup, i was tempted by onestop/digitalrev etc, but in the end i thought better to be safe than sorry plus i wanted to help out the UK economy, but it looks like johnny foreigner got the loot anyways:lol:

By using Onestop and the like they try to get round the customs and excise and VAT man......

Buying from Amazon is done the right way and you have indeed helped out the economy using Amazon.

Best internet company out there as far as Im concerned, even when things have gone wrong, Amazon have put it right with full refund, Ive got nothing but good things to say about them

I always tick the "supplied by amazon" box when using amazon. I find that quite often some items are "supplied" by other companies and in that case it's usually simpler to just go direct to that supplier's website rather than use amazon as a "middle man".

It's a bit like booking hotels - I only ever book via a hotel's own website rather than go through some third party "booking" website.

Amazon have a subsidiary company in Jersey - I've often had product shipped from there.

I think you'll find sarl refers to their Luxembourg euro office:thumbs:

Mainland Europe can still classed as 'Grey' market.

As for guarantee, your contract is with Amazon for the first 12 months not Tamron so it doesn't matter where they got it from. Too many retailers try to fob you off and get you to talk to manufacturers - Amazon, in my experience are quite good at sorting out problems. Post 12 months you may have issues, however, under EU law (and its about the only good law to come out of the EU) all products must carry a 24+month warrenty - i.e its fit for use

+1 for sure.

My Sigma 70-200 came from them and Sigma honoured the 3 year extended warranty.

If I'm buying new I always use amazon.

Thats my next move too;)

I bought this lens the other day from Amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-55-200MM-4-5-6-VR-Black/dp/B000O161X0

At the time it was £145.00.

I was a bit concerned because it was quite cheap but have been really pleased with it. Arrived within 2 working days all in order :)

Wow, thats a great price.

Thanks for all your input guys!

I've never had a problem before and have spent £000's with them.
Though it was me that received the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 which turns out to be a "grey" and Sigma UK being fussy refused to honour the 2 year extension to the warranty.
I've sent it back and they are refunding me the money (hopefully soon as I bought another from Cameraworld, actually for £15 cheaper)
I have written a complaint but as yet no reply.

I will continue to buy from them again but will not be buying any Sigma stuff if the 3 year warranty still continues to be a problem.

My order also had the "may take 2 extra days" for delivery, so suspect it will come from Germany perhaps. Shouldn't be any problem though as I don,t know what Tamrons warranty status is, let alone if they do extended ones.

That would be for items less than £18 (ish) which can be sold in the UK without VAT, like 7dayshop does.

All my experiences with Amazon have been troublefree or better!

I wouldn't order anything from Amazon after reading this.

Amazon.com naturally has no direct control over the third party vendors using their Marketplace feature so buyer!!Beware!!

i always use Amazon to buy lens, body, lights etc. the other day i saw two second hand Canon 5D Mark ii. one of them was around 700 GBP, other one was 750 GBP so i contact the sellers and asked about the condition of items,shutter count etc. they both were very "helpful" and said its under warranty, never been used etc. i go back to Amazon but the listings were closed so i ask them how to buy it and they sent me this mail ;

My listing is closed on website but the product is still in stock for sale,so the next step,if you want to order it will be to send me your full name and shipp adress to start the order through Amazon.
After i will start the order you will be contacted by Amazon about the payment method and shipping details.

i gave my details and they sent me a fake amazon page to get my credit card information. i reported those sellers to Amazon this morning and still no reply to my email. so be aware and remember if its too good to be true...

Amazon's head office is located in Luxembourg, "Amazon EU Sàrl" is the Luxembourg equivalent of what would be "Amazon EU Ltd" (or plc) in the U.K.

It doesn't necessarily mean that the item is coming from Europe (or Luxembourg) - in fact it's pretty unlikely - 99% stock in U.K. where source is selected as amazon.co.uk

Spent around £600 with Amazun over the last week or so, and everything has been delivered earlier than expected. One item (computer parts) was from ADMI, i checked out there feedback first and was happy to go with them based on their good reviews. I got nothing but praise for Amazun now....so far!

Lens is awesome btw ;)

Be aware that if you buy from a 3rd party, via Amazon, using your credit card you get none of the usual protections a credit card provides. It's something to do with their being no relationship between you, the buyer, and the seller as it's gone via another party, i.e. Amazon.

There are a few heated discussions about this on Amazon's boards.

Always buy direct from Amazon, when using Amazon.
