Looking to sign up to one of these, quick poll to gather opinions. I'm not planning to get any kind of contract service such as Sky or Cable so not a option.

You could also try Now TV as well, you often get special offers with free months etc if you buy a chromecast. The Amazon interface is much worse than Netflix and it is very unclear at times what is prime and what is not

Thanks for the opinions, don't forget to vote!

Updated to include options I didn't know exist

The main thang that bugs me with Amazon Prime video, is they just remove films / series etc for no reason...

Daughter got into watching Criminal minds over Christmas on Amazon Prime, watching and enjoying on the 12th Jan, 13th - no longer included in prime so not free !!!

Netflix have some good series and quite a few good films on - you can easily stop your account with Netflix and as it's a monthly payment, if you find after a few months you've had enough, cancel it and maybe come back later in year...

Does the new Apple TV include programming now? Or is it still a gateway to other stuff?

Amazon is a 12 month deal, Netflix you can dip in and out of on a monthly basis.

Not sure what you mean. It has Netflix, I player, now TV etc

I got rid of sky, use Netflix mainly and have amazon too as it's a good price if you use them alot

We flit between them but Netflix mostly, I do agree the main bug with Amazon is their removal of random series, I found ages ago though that now tv used to do the same

Still need a subscription for Netflix right? It's not included in the box or I didn't I miss something somewhere. Got enough devices to access the services, just wondering which service will give value, leaning towards both right now to be honest, seen that Amazon let you pay monthly, not sure if it can be cancelled before a year.

Yes you still need a subscription. Have a look at the website becleverwithyourcash if you want some good trial deals [emoji3]

Thanks I can see things going that way eventually. I haven't been around for a while and I never really watched Tv, so there must be enough to keep interest for a while

I've got Amazon as I've got prime anyway, and I've got sky movies as I've got sky anyway. I've also got a bluray player. Seems to serve us well.

These. We have both and rarely use Amazon now, looks like it will be cancelled soon.

I have both and I like having both because you do get good quality original shows from both. And both have different shows I want to watch.

Having said that, if I can only choose one, I'd choose Netflix because it generally has more shows that I like on it, plus the streaming is better. Oh, and Daredevil - my favourite Netflix Original. :D

I'm not sure if it's my own network issues, but when streaming Amazon and I rewind or fast forward, the show suddenly loses quality (becomes blurry and grainy) and it doesn't get better even if I let it play for ages or pause it. Doesn't happen all the time, but enough times to be annoying. No such problems on Netflix.

One of my sisters has Netflix and I have to say that there seem to be a large number of very poor films on it. It might be cheap but even so... I couldn't recommend it at all and personally I'd rather buy DVD's from The Pound Shop than watch the dross on Netflix.

My other sister has a box that basically links you to the net and allows you to view almost anything. It's a lot easier than going on a pc and streaming stuff to the TV.

I can't remember what the service is called but if anyone is interested I'll ask her.

Netflix is worthwhile if you can access the US content but that's going to be stopped shortly so tbh I'm likely to drop my subscription, heard a few saying now TV isn't bad?

It sounds like an Android box, these are readily available on Amazon and Ebay from around £40

Amazon, high castle was great, Mr robot too.. And prime is great fit next day delivery!
That is my thinking; I was happy paying it for the 'delivery membership' years ago as I actually saved it on postage easily. In addition I had a love film subscription on top. But nowadays the price is the same, and you get family sharing, unlimited streaming of movies AND music, and still the delivery charges....Best membership subscription I've got...

Wiof woof, i think you mean Kodi?

I know quite a few that have a box like that. But all those movies and programming for free, the latest James Bond and Star Wars movies on it....Hmmm something fishy about it in my opinion. I can't take that risk...

We have both, my missus pays for Netflix and watches it constantly (loves the US programming) and I pay for Prime and we occasionally watch the video side given we use it mostly for delivery.

Both have their pros and cons in terms of programming and I do feel you need to have both to get the very best possible depth of programming.

I have netflix at the mo but keep seeing adverts for Amazon and they are getting some very good shows, Also they will have the Top Gear cast doing a new show which should be good one.

I have ROKU 3 and Apple 3 boxes in separate rooms.

My youngest son has moved back in so his Amazon and Netflix accounts are streaming alongside my Now TV Movie subscription.

All in all there is always something available. I have KODI on an M8 Android box and; as mentioned above, there is an unlimited range of programmes and films available. As most is copyright content I never watch the latest cinema released streamed content.

All of the streamed content providers have something to catch your interest. On Netflix it was season 1-3 of House of Cards and the Irish ex Garda now PI Jack Taylor.

Try a couple of months on each and see. I understand Prime is to be available on a monthly charge basis.

Infinity 2 broadband makes life easier for streaming and the BT YouView box is OK for BT Sport.

Getting rid of the dish on the front of the house is a bonus.

You don't subscribe to netflix for the films, its the TV thats worth watching, much of it award winning.

Don't forget Amazon have the new show from Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May ... Could be a pro or a xon though, as is the Marmite opinion of JC!

£39 a month?

[emoji38] I knew you two would spot the deliberate mistake, I see you both posted simultaneously :)

For the sake of clarity, its £39 a year

Haha!! I had guessed but had to check incase you was getting some super services I didn't know about

I can't compare them as I only have Amazon Prime on the Fire TV box. I just discovered I can watch Amazon Prime films and shows on the train or when travelling, using the Amazon Prime app on my smartphone.

I also watch the BBC iPlayer on the Fire TV. But it's annoying that it's not as friendly as Amazon for showing, when browsing, if you've already watched a show and how far through it you watched. And neither let you store favourites/watch list for different family members. Improved ergonomics shouldn't cost much.

I like Netflix. Even if you just watch the uk one its worth the money. I also have one of those *********** boxes. They are ************** but ********** you can watch ************* but it's not exactly ***********.

Personally i go for Amazon, but I only really pay because of next day delivery. For me it is an added bonus and not something i would pay extra for..

I remembered what it's called... Geeky Kit... there's been a bit of trouble over it in my part of the world as it can be used for illegal downloads but despite a few legal wrangles... they seem to be still on sale and loads of people I know have bought them.

AFAIK everything the box can do can be done on a pc but the box just makes it so much easier.

It's not something I'll be getting, but I'm pretty or almost sure it could be used for legal purposes. Maybe :D

Thanks for the comments, sorry been out all day. Still pretty split opinions, will probably try both at this point, maybe one at a time
