Amateur Photography Costs

@Suarez85 but as has been pointed out, if you charge £30 for a while then go higher, people will say "but my friend got it for £30, why has it gone up?" Good luck justifying that to a member of public!

Honesty will be the key - I will mention that at the time, it was a serious hobby with a view to testing the market - however, if it does turn out to be more serious then il have to factor more costs in - insurance, backup kit etc.

I may continue to post on this thread to hopefully showcase my improvements and also show that I am indeed listening to the advice given.

Keeping updates of improvements in this thread may be of some use, but frankly, you really need to be putting your work out into the "people and portraits" section, single shot at a time, and ask for full critique - then listen to it... Really, to be honest, this thread isn't in a photo-sharing area, so really shouldn't be where you're posting your images.

Absolutely agree - I apologise if it appears I am not receiving the critique in the right manner - in some cases these appeared a bit too blunt, which isnt always the best approach, as people receive criticism im different ways and at the time, it probably got my back up a little - however looking back at the comments and having a chance to digest and reinterpret them, I agree with them most and will take them all onboard to develop myself.

I am attempting to get everything as right as I can in camera, purely because I hate post processing and prefer to shoot.

Your list of negatives is spot on and I am going to be working on all of these in the coming months, I may continue to post on this thread to hopefully showcase my improvements and also show that I am indeed listening to the advice given.

Currently researching and practicing posing and directing at the moment and will be putting my learnings into practice over the coming days. :)

I'm really pleased to hear it, and that I hadn't gone way overboard with my comments.

Rather than posting in this thread you'll get more feedback by posting a new thread in the People images subforum after each shoot you want to share.

fwiw I've been working hard on my skills for perhaps 2 & a half years now and have only just got to the point that I'd be happy to charge for my services.
You may be a faster learner than me, or you may not get quite so bogged down in lighting and post-processing as I have, or you may have more time to practice.

edit: beaten to it by @TheBigYin

Absolutely HATE post processing, particuarly from exploring photoshop. Its an awesome tool but I stay well away from that now. Lightroom is much more user friendly.

Lighting is another one im trying to get to grips with, but enjoying experimenting with it!

Different tools for different jobs IMO. I develop images in Lightroom and process them in Photoshop. Lightroom is good for large scale changes. Photoshop is better for small scale stuff, local adjustments, skin retouching, dodging & burning, reshaping, cloning and toning. As well as composites, panaromas, focus stacking and the like.
