weekly Allie's "52" for 2013

Alison: rustic is nice, and the lean is... rustic!

Kind reshoot is lovely, and the monochrome treatment really works for me.

Vertical: both nice, but surprisingly, I prefer the leaning vertical! Maybe because it's more obviously TALL!

Pattern: the cat works brilliantly for this: so many different kinds of pattern in that shot. Great stuff.

Hi Allie

kitty eye's for me as well, fills the frame and beautiful patterns in those eye's

Hi Everyone,

A little late with this one and also some catching up to do. Been away to Egypt for a week, unfortunatley didn't take my camera with me, and was ill for the first 4 days so just grabbed this shot with my point and shoot on the way home.

Week 21 - Movement

Not taken especially for the theme, but I liked the movement of the palm leaves in the wind, all blowing to the right. Quality not great as taken from our moving taxi, so might have to reshoot this theme later on.

I know what your saying regarding the quality, going to wait till I feel better, then try and catch up. Rather than just submit substandard shots to keep up to date. :gag:

Hi Alison, the pic looks much better on Flickr than it does on here. Not as good as your previous efforts though. (please don't be disheartened) Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Allie,
Your submission for movement is on theme, I can see why you went for it and it keeps you near enough up to date.
I don't think any of us are going to nail it every week, onwards and upwards eh?

Hi Allie

hope you're felling better now :hug:ou were aiming for though...

Most of us have weeks where it's post & be dammed....given you were poorly & on holiday I'll not crit.....can see what you were aiming for though , all the palm tree's blowing in the wind in one direction...onwards & upwards to the next theme

Movement, yeah, I suspect there's movement but the trees are a tad far away.

Sometimes themes don't come to us.

Cheers.

Pattern: Both shots are great but the kitten wins for me lol

Movement: I take it the movement is of the trees, looks like they are blowing to me. Nicely on theme to me.

Hi...sorry its taken me a while to comment. Trying to catch up now :)

Pattern: Another vote for the kitten :)

Movement: well done on capturing on the move....surely that could count towards the theme as well as the trees blowing in the wind

Thank you all for your positive comments on a rather dodgy movement shot. Onwards and upwards now.

Week 23 - Size

IMG_2887 by Allieowen, on Flickr

Would have dusted the hangers but I've got enough to do with the ironing!!!! haha

Not a good one for us that are slight OCD....spent ages trying to get the hangers evenly spaced, and just noticed the red xxl is not clicked down!! ahh. Moving on though as other shots to do.

Its definitely on theme you can't argue that point, I think it works quite well, bit annoying not clicking down the xxl, but it doesn't spoil it too much

to be honest - I'm not that bothered by the misallignment here, strong blacks, and slightly muted pastelly colours working well, with the boldness of the "sizes" standing out nicely, I even like the dust.

Week 22 - Below (catch up)

Well I was going to focus on this weeks theme first and catch up later......but Process has me stumped, so I've caught up now, and can put my thinking cap on the next few days.

Spotted this man below a rather large tree yesterday in the grounds of Rochester Castle. Just wish that man in the blue shirt and the red car were not in the shot. Quite a busy shot, but I think the fact the artist is looking directly at me and scratching his head helps keep the focus on him.

Hi Allie, the clone brush is your friend at times like these.

I like the composition and the main subjects framed by the tree meet the theme nicely.

You've managed to see the small negative points for yourself so I can't help but mention those... one could argue that lightening the foreground and darkening the background might help to keep the viewer from looking at the car/man back there, but I would have gone further and removed them in photoshop before doing that. ;)

week 25 - Rock

Ran out of time so grabbed the rock salt and here's my shot.

Would prefer the pile of salt to the left to be in focus as it distracts slightly from the salt in focus in the middle. Hey ho on to the next.

Hmmm, well I kind of agree with you. It's a bit confusing to look at. I think it needed some more light to make it work really, have you seen grahams shot? (overbez).

Hi Brian, yeah I saw his shot and he got the light spot on. I was going to use my off camera flash but seem too have misplaced it :| will definately re do this shot once I find it.

Hi Alison, it is a bit busy might help if it was a tighter crop maybe

Thanks Alan, definitely one for a re shoot.

Great idea to go for rock salt. :D, I tried mine in B&W too but found it lacking something, you've got good detail in the parts that are in focus, but I think the DOF is possibly too shallow here.

The light I used was simply early morning sunlight, from behind the pile.

This is a pair of my sunglasses, I have quite a collection and glad the suns been out this weekend so I can wear them at last.

There is another kind of pair in the reflection as my 16 year old pointed out  although this was definately not intentional. :naughty:
