weekly Allie's "52" for 2013

I think this is great!

I could see this as a magazine advert or something. Interesting perspective and nice colours.

Ooops didn't realise I shouldn't put its a quick snap.

Thanks posiview

In that case, C&C. Like it. Well composed and, without wanting to anthropomorphise, there is a lovely connection between them.

Crit, well just even lighting would improve, IMO.

Cheers.

Allie, I preferred the second Letter one; to me it makes more sense in context (not that it wasn't clear what they were, but I like the idea that you're eating your food and decided to crate this message).

The electric toothbrush didn't do much for me incomparison, I'm afraid...

Hi ya

for a quick shot it's worked well...like the angle, pov & DOf , nice sharp bristles :)

Hi Alison

Juxtaposition: I like the flames and colour contrast with the dark b/g. A really good shot.

Letter: Prefer first shot. Simple, good colours and focus. Nice crop.

Electric: In theme and unusual idea. Good depth and focus on the brush.

Crazy couple of weeks so a little late with this one.

Not the angle I had in mind when I started this one, but worked out ok, I think. Didn't want to fall behind so moving on to TACKY now

I thought this was Tacky, but friends I've shown it to, find it amusing

Taken on my mobile phone so less than normal quality to the shot.

Think I will keep looking for another Tacky shot for this week

Final edit for this weeks shot. It is a grab shot on my mobile but thought It would raise a smile amongst most.

Direction - simple shot, but it works! Nice PP too - like it!

Tacky - Haha, that's brilliant! As you mention, shame about the quality but can't be helped. As a shot it works I think, bit of a tight crop bottom left though maybe?

Thanks Matt, will have another go at editing the van shot, and then post it as my weekly shot, just wasnt sure if it was tacky enough.

direction works well - simple shot - simple colour [alette, a very strong finger point, looks a bit unnatural as I wouldn;t tuck my thumb in to point, but with it up from the side looks more like kids playing bang bang guns! So overall the right choice to have it tucked in.

Tacky - yep scaffolders or builders innuendo written big on vans is definately tacky. Just shows we can get hung up on image quality... Not sure if it were crystal clear it would have had the same effect?

Direction, reminds me of those old - victorian I think - signs pointing to the toilets etc. Good idea  I can't really decide if I like the colour cast, I would have gone for B&W myself but that's just subjective of course.

Tacky, well for my tastes this is quite funny, but I would call it a snapshot (taken) rather than a photograph (made) if you understand my meaning...

Hey, we're all 1/4 of the way there... only 39 to go! (keep it up)

Direction: I like the editing on this.

Tacky: Great tacky quote and it made me

Hi, Direction, nice simple approach that works. Processing is to my liking as well.

Tacky, indeed. Not too kwwn on the processing on this one, though.

Cheers.

Hi Alison

I seem to have missed your commneting on your thread. Apologies but now subscribed.

You have had a lot of feedback on your shots so all i will add is that the letter and electric shots are exceptionally good ideas, on theme and well handled.

Direction - good impact shot. very bold 'direction' Not too keen on the colour version as the colours lack the same impact as the hand. B&W works well but would just like to see the index finger sharper in focus as to me that is the main 'direction' indicator.

Tacky - good spot. Not keen on the processing of the croped version (altho the crop is good) - the colour version is better. Perhaps just straight mono.

Opened my fridge this morning to see my daughter had purchased some VALUE yoghurt, so here's my entry for this week.

Value by Allieowen, on Flickr

simple idea for the theme - nice and in-your-face, well executed.. Lovely and sharp - good use of DOF, nicely lined up lettering on the beer bottle tops, ;)

Am I seeing a (very) slight yellow tint to the white rim at the top of the pot?

Apologies Alison, haven't visited your thread for a while :(

I like the colour version for direction, particularly the cross processed look to it
It's bang on theme, simple yet very effective.

Tacky, again on theme. Well spotted, I do like these sort of subjects, as it is well spotted and captured.

Value, a literal take but an effective one nonetheless
I like your attention to detail with the beer bottles or is that how you usually stack your fridge OCD like?

I have a bit of fridge ocd :cuckoo: I do like all my labels facing front and in line
I sampled a few presets I downloaded and I quite like this one. I agree there is a slight yellow tone to the pic but I like it more than the original which was a tad blue.

Thanks for your comments guys and girls.

hi allie

Love your 1st version of Direction...great processing...very Victorian olde worlde feel to it

Tacky......like the pp'd version as add's to the tacky feel

Value.....yayyy for OCD's :lol:good DOF , nicely sharp & the slight angle works much better than head on :)

Value - Nice and simple and works well! Nice bit of DOF / bokeh and the processing works well too I think - Instagram-esque! :)

Week 15 - GREED

Well I cleaned Hammy the hamsters cage this evening, filled her food bowl and she dived straight in and filled her chops......GREEDY Hamlet.

Greed by Allieowen, on Flickr

Great shot - small animals being one of the few times when you can shoot from a bove and have it work. Giving a better sense of scale and size.

really sharp and well focussed - love the catchlights in her eyes and the sawdust on the head.

Thanks Graham, she was so alert and wouldn't stay still for long, you should have seen me following her round the cage with my camera for 15 minutes. Think she's a little camera shy, as she kept going underground (sawdust) so I was pleased with the shot I got.

Hi, Value, on theme and nice detail.

Greedy, who doesn't love hamsters :D Good focus on the eyes and nice perspective. Pity the whateveritis lower left.

Cheers.

Hi Andy, its her wheel/ball in shot, and was impossible to omit from shot as it takes up alot of her cage. She was in it shortly before the shot so took a few of her in it, unfortunately they were not as focused ad this one.

Great take on the theme and a very cute hamster too :)

nice hamster shot having had hamsters in the past the thought occured to me about their food pouches but no hamster available here, excellent use of the theme

Direction is nice and simple, but I can't see why the thumb is tucked in like that! It completely dominates my looking at the pic in both versions. Second version of tacky for me; yes it's funny, but it's tack humour. Greed is nice, and the hamster is well in focus; there's just a bit too much red thing for my taste. Great shots, though!

Not taken especially for this weeks challenge but a photo taken Saturday at my nephews 4th Birthday Party. The stairs and shadows create the "angles" to fit the theme.

Just wish I had managed to get his feet in the shot. and just seen the black around the top left of the shot, sloppy cropping. :bang:

Nice one, I like this a lot. In my view only thing I would suggest is trying to brighten up your nephew a bit (not his disposition, I mean the exposure:))

I can't see any difference in the crops btw

Thanks Chris, I will try and brighten him up a bit :D. There is just a slight black rail appearing in the top left of the first shot, only slightlly but adjusted it now.

Angles - good composition and well on theme with a variety of angles set against each other and the young boy adds a lot to the scene. He does not look too dark to me. I suppose if you were posing him you would try perhaps to get one of the shafts of light on his face or the hand but overall i think it is an excellent shot in itself allied to the theme.
