weekly Allie's "52" for 2013

Hi Allie, original and well in theme. Love the shadow, focus is spot on even to the thread of the string and cropped nicely. Well done!

Hi Allie

lovely in B&W , very sharp throughout & a great shadow

If I was a bit more advanced in PP I would have loved to have the shadow changed to a shadow of an apple. Similar to the shots I've seen on here where a spoon has a fork shadow.

yum - lovely, sorry but I have nothing even remotely negative to say about this one!

Lovely colours, textures, shapes - everything.

Really colourful and lovely textures. Excellent stuff!

I like that quite a bit. Nice earthy colours and composition, with some good detail on the textures.

Same for me

Well done, great photo

Nothing more to add, great photo that's spot on theme!

Great colours, Love it. PS looks better on flickr - click through people and hit L.

Little late with this one, as the first time I set out to take the shots,my battery went flat after one shot. (when will I learn to always have a spare) ?
Like alot of others, I was waiting for a clear night for a moon shot, but drove past this place Friday and it caught my eye. Nipped out earlier and a quick shot and edit and this is my entry.

I can see the space - nice and clear on the letters all the way along - think the snow above the name and on the backs of the rails adds a nice touch.

Great contrast between the white letters (and snow) and the black of the gates - well exposed for!

Only thing is the rails are spot on vertical at the left edge, but then get a tiny lean by the time they come to the right. A tiny pull on the top right corner with a "distort" tool, should let you pull this back to vertical all the way along the gate.

Space, B&W works well with the subject matter and plenty fo detail.

Work, on theme and the orange really stands out...bit of eye contact may have taken it up a level.

Cheers.

Thanks overbez, had a quick look around lightroom4 and can't seem to find a distort tool to correct the verticals. Am I better off doing this in Photoshop?

Think it would be a Photoshop or GIMP type operation..... its in CS2 as edit . transform . distort.... or GIMP under Tools > transform tools > perspective.

this should give a box around the image and pulling the top right corner a little bit to the left brings it all in line nicely.

Loving "Work" as well..... surprised that they all have a shovel each though, normally its one shovel to every three blokes

SPACE - 2 correction by Allieowen, on Flickr

With much thanks to overbez, here is my adjusted shot of SPACE. Very slight adjustment with distort in PS5 to make all the verticals straight.

You're very welcome - it's nice when the one thing a shot needs can be done simply without having to go back and re-shoot.

Definite improvement, and now there's nothing to even nit-pick about with it.

Both Space and Work shots are very good; I wouldn't have known what to do about the distortion (other than to try to get an equal amount of lean on each side!). The corrected one is definitely better.

Someone said eye contact from the workers would be better, but I reckon 3 large blokes with shovels are probably best left undisturbed! Not sure what their reaction to "Oy mate, couldya look at me lens?" would be!

 yeah thought it best not to disturb them. They looked so happy in their work. They might have even told me to ..."shov el off"
Thanks for all your comments.

On topic, and nice processing. Well done.

Good job on the gate

Men at work is the sort of shot I wish I could do. I never seem to see the moment, so hats off to you.

Gluttony - Quick pic, taken at feeding time at our local Barn Farm in Upchurch. Would prefer more focus all round.

PIG-1-2 by Allieowen, on Flickr

Good to get a bit of eye contact, think he was worried I was after some of his grub!!

Hi, more pigs :D Like it. Nice light which brings out the detail in the fur, or is it hair  You got eye contact with a pig  I actually like the corrugated sheeting in the BG because the curves match the curves on the pigs back.

Cheers, now bacon sandwich time

Really like this shot, Absolutely love the eye contract and detail in the shot and the detail in the left pig. The eye contact from both works for me also. Just one point ive looked at the larger shot on your Flickr page and there seems to be some kind of blurring effect on the right pig on the shoulders and snout, was this intentional?

Hi Dacmirc, thanks for your comments

I've now checked my adjustments and noticed I hadn't finished the one on the right hand pig. Here is the finished shot, minus the blurring.

nice pigs great take on the theme the left pig has a great expression, well caught

Great shot Allie, I'm sure they're perfectly healthy but they just have the look of pigs who've been gluttons for their whole lives.

Brilliant shot for the theme!

Great shot of the pigs, Allie, and they certainly look like they have been gluttonous!
