Anyone had any problems with "iOS 16" ? I've updated my "iPhone 12 Pro Max" to 15.7 but not as yet to 16. I've had no problems with 15.7 on my iPad and it doesn't show that 16 is available for it yet, but it does show as being available for my iPhone.

Read above, iPadOS 16 will not be out till October.

No issues on my iPhone 12 Pro Max running on iOS 16.

I've had a few occasions where the screen of my iPhone 12 doesn't respond to button 'presses' - almost as though the button isn't clickable.
It's resolved itself either on its own or by closing down and then re-opening the app - not a major problem but it's happened a few times.

Many thanks Richard & Roger.

Not noticed any major issues. Font for the Lock Screen clock is horrible. That's the only issue I've found.

There are many new features shown in the video linked below. I found that not all of them are present on my iPhone in iOS 16 so I'm guessing that some are iPhone 14 only. I've found that I can't control my Watch from my iPhone 13 Pro Max, probably because it's the SE model of the Watch.

I've found one that was missed in that video. Gary shows how you can not only select a Memoji for your header image in Contacts, but select a pose for that Memoji, too. What I found is that you can click on a Memoji and then pull faces to make the Memoji image look the way you want, then click the blue button to use that as an image.

Siri and Shortcuts have been integrated into iOS apps more than ever before. If you're one of those people who don't mind muttering into your phone, open up one of the Apple built-in apps, summon up Siri, and ask "What can I do here?" Siri will tell you some of the phrases recognised for that app, for example, "Take a note". The integration isn't as good as I'd hoped, though. I told Siri to "Take a Quick Note" and I got an ordinary Note containing the word "Quick". Not all that useful.

Does anyone else here use Siri? I set reminders and timers; get Maps navigation to one of my Favourite locations; show me photos of places, things, and people in Safari; tell me what music is playing at the moment; and various other things. I also like messing around with Shortcuts, both on the phone/tablet and on the Mac. It's a lot more fun than programming in any of the usual languages. Anyone else like using Shortcuts? Got any good ones?

I am the opposite. I love the new font for the front screen clock as I now don’t have to find my glasses to see what time it is :)

Garry, I use Siri quite bit for various things and one of the most useful bits I have used so far is asking Siri to brighten or dim the screen. I'm always forgetting to brighten the screen before I start using one of the camera apps in bright light and then of course the light is to bright to see how to do it manually. It takes about three times asking to bring the screen brightness up from my usual setting to full brightness. Apparently you can also ask Siri to fire the shutter but I've not as yet managed to do this successfully. As for asking Siri to take a note, it seems to work quite well but I usually do that by tapping the microphone digit on the screen and make a speech to text note. Although Siri works fairly well here in the UK it is a whole bunch better when I'm home in the USA.

I've not tried to set up short cuts as yet and to be perfectly honest at this moment I don't know how to set them up, it does sound interesting though so I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

I've just installed "iOS 16" successfully on my "iPhone 12 Pro Max" so I'll be busy working out everything that I can do with it now.

100% agree on the Lock Screen font, my AirPods are also having Bluetooth connectivity issues which could be coincidence but the timing seems odd

On my watch…. Yes quite often

On my phone…. A few times over the years, tends to get things wrong more than right

On my iPad…. Never

On my Mac…. Never

Probably down to use case, quite handy on the watch although I did have to disable activating Siri by long-press as it kept going off due to the placement on my wrist

Someone on one of the tech sites said that if you have your volume controls set to take photos, you could just tell Siri, "Volume up" to take a shot. But when I tried it, she just said, "OK, media will play more loudly".

That idea of using Siri to change the screen brightness is a good one. As is "Torch on/off". There are plenty of tutorials on how to use Shortcuts on YouTube, if you've got the time to watch.

Thanks for all of that Garry, much appreciated. I've never even thought of torch on/off that's very useful. I really don't have the time at the moment to check out You Tubes etc as I've still got to finish a couple of designs (one is very complex) by the end of the month. But after that things should be slowing down so I'll get cracking on bringing myself up to speed then.

It can be changed.

My favourite shortcut is one I made to save locations if I see something interesting whilst driving - "Hey Siri, save this location" emails me a pin for the current location, so I can review it at my leisure, when I am not driving.

I slipped on a step yesterday with my iPhone XR in my back pocket, needless to say, the front & back glass are shattered, and there's aluminum showing on the rear.

I'd like to upgrade to an 11 or 12, but money is tight right now, so can anyone suggest where I might find one at a half decent price? I don't mind a refurb as long as it has a warranty on it.

Music Magpie sell refurb phones with a warranty. Cex might be a good bet too. Apple have their own refurb store online but I'd guess it would be more expensive than the other two places

I have bought from giffgaff ’refurb‘ with no problems. I guess there’s nothing in the classifieds here, maybe worth putting it in Wanted?

I managed to break off from my work a bit sharpish today and gave my wife's new "iPhone 14 Pro Max" a bit of a work out photographically. All I can say is I just can't wait for them to be available in the Apple stores, the quality of snaps from that unit is nothing short of "Superb". I thought my "iPhone 12 Pro Max" was good but this new incarnation is in sane, a time or two ago I'd never have thought that this kind of quality of images could be obtained from a cell phone.

I'm pretty sure that when I get mine it'll be a game changer for me with regards to photography, as most of you know the majority of my snapping is street style and I honestly can't think that I will need anything else as it will cover pretty much all of my work. I'll almost certainly be investing in an Apple watch as well, not the Ultra but a series 8 with a strap of my own choosing that I see you can get from Apple.

I use Siri to make the screen brighter and darker when I am in the car. Also "Siri read my messages" and "Siri read my emails" The former allows you to reply, but she isn't very good at voice recognition, so sometimes I send rubbish. For the emails, she only reads out the subject and who it is from, so not very useful, unless you are waiting for an important email and then know to stop to read it.

With the watch, "Siri start an outdoor walk" occasionally works :D

I have the iPhone 14 pro and have not had any issues so far.

I’m still rocking my 11 Pro (don’t see any reason to upgrade), not had problems with iOS 16 myself but there’s widespread reports of issues with the 14, no doubt Apple will fix it though

It was the camera for me. It really is game changing.

I seem to remember a short time ago that someone possibly( @garryknight ) as well as myself couldn't get to fire the iPhone camera shutter using a voice command. Well I've managed to do it on my "iPhone 12 Pro Max" using the following instructions which also work using the "ProCamera" as well as the native camera app.

"On your phone, go to Settings and then Accessibility and then Voice Control. Turn on the switch for Voice Control. Then open the Camera app and line up your shot. Say “Turn up the volume” or “Turn down the volume,” and the shutter will be triggered instead"

Interesting. I just tried something on my droid phone (Pixel 4). Said, "hey google, take a picture with my phone", it opened the camera app and did a 3 second timer for the photo.
I wonder if Siri can do something similar, as it would be a lot more intuitive that way.

Should be easy to create in the Shortcuts app.

iOS 16.0.3 is available for installation now. It fixes security issues and bugs.

EDIT: Just a reminder that Watch OS 9.0.2 is also available.

Many thanks for the heads up Garry, all successfully done & dusted.
