Wallet, Apple Pay on iPad
I have an MBNA VISA card verified an working for Apple Pay on my iPhone. It’s the same one verified for App Store etc with Apple.

The same card is used for App Store etc on iPad, no problems.

BUT damned if I can verify it on the iPad for Apple Pay. It tells me to phone MBNA which I didn’t have to do when I added it to Apple Pay on the phone and of course it’s already verified on the phone so I don’t see how they could verify it on some unidentifiable iPad via my phone.

Has anybody got it verified on an iPad?
Isn't the verification on iPhone done by SMS message, which is not possible on an iPad.

a thanks! I can’t actually remember how I verified it on the phone except that it “just worked :). However the iPad does SMS and phone calls so they go via the phone — that’s really why I’m mystified as to how they can identify the ipad. I tried voice calling to the number given but gave up as there was a long queue :(.

Just upgraded to a i.phone 12 from a i.phone 7 that had a battery on its last legs and a scratched camera lens .it was a toss up between upgrading the 7 or buying the 12 off my son ,so I know the history of the 12 and know it’s been well looked after .. the performance difference is amazing ,and once I get to grips with the camera set up it’s gonna be fun

That's a positive Result Jeff, congrat's & "ENJOY"

"The cameras on those 12 series really are a huge step up from the 7 series. I've done a very similar thing myself a short time ago, a still working perfectly 7 Plus to a 12 Pro Max"

No idea when the 13 pro will be available. Checking daily just in case my local store get one in!

Just to update in case anyone has the same problem.

I phoned (on my phone!) the number given an despite my being more r less unable to understand the agent (poor sound and Indian accent, maybe in India) he said he’d verified the card and indeed he has!

It must be some sort of universal verification with Apple because there’s no way that I can see that they know about my iPad :(.

Both of my iPads verified with Barclays Bank with no problem. I think what happens is that you enter the card details and Apple checks directly with the bank, i.e. no SMS involved. Apple seems to have a special relationship with Barclays, as they handle financed purchases (in the UK, at least). It might be different with other banks, though a friend of mine had no problem verifying her HSBC account on her iPhone.

Yes, there was no problem on phone just on the iPad and probably that would be easy (though tedious) if I dint have hearing problems on the phone :(.

Apple are just constantly saying out of stock (am looking for the phone SIM free).
John Lewis seem to be getting a few most days, I grabbed a 13 Pro Max last week, was out of stock all day until 8pm then bingo so just keep checking, I always buy my phones from them for the 2 year warranty and fully unlocked.

Kept checking with Apple frequently each day since Friday - then this morning managed to get one and picked up this afternoon.

All looking good, cant wait to test properly and then decide on the accessories like charging station!

Does anyone use the wallet MagSafe attachment for the 12/13. Tempted by one but won’t you have to keep removing to use Apple Pay as the reader would try to scan whatever cards are in there too?

Did a very quick test with the 13 Pro Max Cinematic mode and first impressions I was very disappointed so I had a quick Google and discovered you can fix out of focus areas with a very simple edit on the phone, literally just tap edit then tap on the out of focus subject to correct !!! It's not perfect as I literally only spent a few seconds playing with it. Mind blowing what can be achieved these days with such little effort. I've had Premiere Pro for 2 years and just can't find time to learn it which in turn means I haven't used the expensive gimbal and the full capabilities of my camera bodies. This is a game changer for me, I now have an incentive to start shooting video.

A quick before and after video.

Pete, I don't know if you use an iPad as well but arguably the best for editing vid's is "LumaFusion", it's also available for your iPhone but obviously more fiddly to use. And have you tried "FilmicPro" for your video filming it's excellent.

Hi George yes i've heard of Filmic Pro i'm going to get it. My mind is blown at how an out of focus moving subject can be corrected so simply. If I was an Adobe software engineer i'd be moving to Apple now because they will be redundant within 5 years at this rate.

I now have moved 100% to Apple now and have fairly recently purchased an "iPhone 12 pro max" which I love, it was an upgrade from my ageing "iPhone 7 plus" so a huge boost in performance all round. And only about three weeks ago I purchased the latest "iPad pro 12.9" complete with the magic keyboard & pencil which was once again an upgrade from my "iPad pro 12.9" (2017 vintage). Love it all and the integration is phenomenal.

How do you find photo editing on the iPad Pro ? I tried one last year for a couple of weeks and struggled. I got frustrated trying to retouch photos with fingerprints on the screen, found the pencil very good but the prospect of relearning photoshop techniques put me off. Maybe I should try again as my ageing Macbook Pro is due to be replaced. I didn't have the keyboard, maybe that will help reduce the touching of the screen.

Most of my PP work on an "iPad Pro" is done using "Affinity Photo" (which is extremely good) with the "Apple Pencil" and occasionally I drift into "Snapseed". I use the "iPad Pro" on about a 50/50% with a "MacBook Pro 15".

All of my video editing is done with "LumaFusion" which I've already mentioned about on my "iPad Pro".

Actually @garryknight has done quite a bit of video on a phone etc and edited it using "LumaFusion", it's well worth a look.

There’s been no mention here of the Halide app recently I think. They’ve just update to add a “Macro” mode on all iPhones (and iPad?) to coincide with Apple doing it in the iPhone 13. Whether it adds anything on the 13 I don’t know but wouldn’t put it past them. Just tried it on my basic 11 and it does work and gets noticeably closer and certainly OK on a flat field. Useful for some ”record“ purposes no doubt.

Anyone got an issue with updating their watch ? Trying to go to 7.6.2 and I keep getting an error along the lines of I’m not connected to the internet …

annoying..

No issue with 8.0.1, updated just now so it’s not a general thing.

Sounds like new MacBook Pros will finally be announced next week!

Good - in the market for one!

Hope the price stays around the same - could get a new MacBook to replace my 2013 one but tempted by an Air (£250 cheaper) and adding another c.£250 and get an iPad Air!

I've been ready for a new MBP for a few years now. I was going to buy an M1 when they were announced, but it was clear that it was only the low-end ones, I decided to hold on for M1X. I expect it will be worth the wait. I'm expecting the prices to be more expensive, especially if they are upping the specs to 16GB/512GB as standard.

That was the spec i would have got anyway, hopefully they will do away with the Touch Bar too!

Well having had a play with the Series 7 Watch, I know there definitely is no need to upgrade from my Series 6. The increase in screen size is hardly noticeable.

I got an SE yesterday as I dont need ECG and faster charging. So much better than my 2!

Looking like an expensive time - Damn Apple! In addition to the 13 Pro (and of course case, wallet, docking station), air pods pro, watch SE, they will probably get another wad of cash for the MBP 14" !

Probably a Num Nut question.

On my "iPhone 12 pro max" when using the camera for instance the 1x lens/camera, if I zoom between that and the 2.5x lens/camera to somewhere between the two focal lengths am I actually using digital zoom or does the iPhone jiggery pokery some how combine the two focal lengths to give me optical zoom ?

Dunno, but my vote is for jiggers poker using both lenses :).

I THINK its is digital - when i was zooming during video it was quite smooth up to 3x (13 pro) and from 2.9 to 3 there was a brief 'jerk' I guess as it switched lenses.

Many thanks for that Simon, much appreciate your reply.
