weekly aljazzeras 2013 52-week 52 WATER added COMPLETE

another vote for the feather.....great detail and lighting, like the details in the background which almost echoes the shape of the feather
well done

I Love the feather but for some reason there appears to be masses of cloning all about 1cm square shapes on the black ?? or is that pattern or is it just my monitor ???

If the black was faultless that would be the shot for me, So I'm going for the Jack-plug - Great idea by the way

Love the feather, fantastic detail.

Yeah, that's one for me. Cracking detail and well lit. Well composed and I like the subtle detail in the black surface.

Cheers.

#1 gets my vote Allan

Minimalist, clean, sharp, well lit holding the detail in the feather and great use of negative space.

Perfect Allan, just perfect :)

Storming images both of them. Well done.

Thanks for the comments

Your monitor must be so bright DK I had to turn up the brightness setting in Aperture to see what you were on about, you were right.
The picture was taken on the canal I watched a swan pluck it out and off it went down the canal, when i converted the image with a blue filter setting the water was mostly black, on my monitor:shrug: so the only thing i can think was the area I picked to clone looked black to me but may not have been.
Just gone back to the raw file and did a better job i think:thinking:
Thanks for pointing it out:thumbs:

Hi Allan

Step - #1 for me. It includes steps so that makes the theme. But your angle of view looking up at the whole of the grand imposing façade makes it even more on theme for me because, as you imply in your comment, there is also the feeling of the action of stepping into the building. stunning shot technically too.

Mono - 3 good shots, all on theme and well handled. #1 - the feather- is the shot that I most admire because of the composition and clarity and simplicity of the image. Top shot, partic when I read how you had taken it and PP'ed it

Mono: Love the feather one, nice and minimalistic. Lovely detail in the sunflower one.

The picture was taken on the canal

That feather was floating on a canal when you took the shot...

:notworthy: awesome, that would have been hard enough to do on a glass tile or however it would be done... a bit small in the frame for me, but spot on detail and reflection.

mono plug is pretty faultless too.

and love the contrast around the petals of the flower. I'd clone that circular droplet thing though.. but I do like cloning things I do.

Helloooooo

For sheer simplicity & effectiveness the feather mono shot is perfection.....thought it was on a shiny black surface till I read your words on the "how"....really well handled exposure , cracking detail in feather & reflection......cracking shot matey...LOVE IT :clap:
The mono plugs doesn't appeal to me but still a good shot , the flower head...another nice take with good detail but both pale next to the feather .

Connection.....good take on the theme with a lovely sky , fab detail in the brickwork, good low angle...yeah...liking this also

Agreed, simple, effective and quick.

A very nice shot, shame about that foliage in the lower left

Mono, #3, getting good at this, aren't you :D

Well composed and good tonal range, but I can't help wondering what it would look like with the lower left leaf straight up, as the others are. I guess it's just a symmetry thing :D, and I'll be back to this one to see if the bent leaf growns on me, which I feel it will.

.....made my mind up already, prefer it as it is. Add a bit if quirkiness to it and added interest

Connecting, yup, on theme and WB looks spot on, lovely detail, Especially in the clouds and brickwork. I don't mind the converging lines, but I do like reflections and it's a pity you couldn't get the bridge reflection.....maybe you couldn't

Now, sit back and relax until Saturday.

Cheers.

Nowt wrong with a literal take on the theme, lovely shot - very well processed too - really bringing out the shadows under the arch and really making the sky stand out!

At first (cos I can't really remember too much about my teenage years :D) I was thinking that this bridge connected England to Wales... but it looks from the map that the border is further up, however my mum gets the bus across this bridge once a week (her welsh bus pass is only good as far as Chester) to go to witherspoons for lunch with her friend and then they get the bus home to Wrexham again! Anyway where were we? Oh yeah...

Great shot mate, lovely focus and detail throughout. POV is good too, nowt wrong with a literal connection to the theme. (see, I did it again :)) as Graham rightly says, good PP too. Well done.

As Graham said Allan, nowt wrong with a literal take on a theme

I particularly like the strength of the composition, the bridge fills the whole frame, its the main subject, no distractions around it.

Do I detect some very subtle HDR? If it is, you've handled it really well, bringing out the fine detail of the bridge.

If its not, then ignore the sentence above

Good work regardless Allan, nowt I'd want to change about this

The foliage annoys me too but beyond my PP skills so left it in

Good connection, nice colours in the brickwork and sky.

THanks

Thanks Andy wasn't any chance to get the reflection I would have liked it too.

Great detail underneath the arch and wonderful sky. Well done, Sir

Thanks

The literal thing was sarcasm, its all Brians fault didn't think anyone would take that seriously

Thanks Brian yes the bridge is across the Dee leeds into the part of Wales you are talking about, fancy your mother hanging round Wetherspoons :suspect:

Thanks No HDR Iain a bit of highlights and shadows tinkering thats all

The beginning of our driveway*

Duke of Westminster gates by allanhowe, on Flickr

Very tenuous link to the theme and I seem to be stuck on architecture at the minute, it was graveyards earlier in the year.
About a minute after taking the pic security came and moved us on, they were fine about it though.
Will be having another look around for something else, have tried a couple of things but wasn't really happy with them.

*This might not be true :shake:

Ah, tenuous links, my speciality :)

Thats a posh looking spot, I figured it for a stately home.

Hi
Really like the perspective in Connection. Great detail in the brickwork and the sky.
Beginning- again great detail in sky
having difficulty coming up with ideas for this topic.....good idea

The bridge shot is lovely. Really nice perspective, great tones in the stone, and the sky just finished it off nicely.

There's quite an other worldly feel to Beginning, it's as if everything beyond the gateline is painted. Central composition works well, and the bollards keep my eyes on the path.

super shot for beginning allan - especially considering the limited amount of time you had to take it.

nice work on the processing again too.

Beginning, yup, on theme, very well composed and with good detail. Crit, pity you couldn't pull back a tad with the sky.

Cheers.

Wow - how small was this little fella Allan??

Super detail in the central bunch of leaves and background works well, no faults on the composition.....

just the tiny DOF detracting a little for me, I think exaggerated by the right hand leaf in front of the central focus point).

Did you have room to stop down aperture at all, (no exif), even if it meant using a tripod? Or there's always focus stacking but that seems a real black art - even to me!!

I'm undecided on the dof leaf, I sort of like it but what would really have brought it to life would have been a splash of mottled light.

Very nice shot though and well on theme

#2 gets my vote Allan

Super shallow dof, muted colour tones it's very easy on the eye

I need to get my monitor calibrated really, as often I am not sure when I see images...

The new background looks excellent so now the feather is my choice

Morning Allan

Loving that imposing entrance for Beginning.......looks picture postcard sharp , detail everywhere , good colors......

The tiny little plant is a corker as well , superb green with good detail in the leaves against a great bg...DOF is a little small for me but macro stuff can be a mare to get all in focus...the very centre leaves are just beginning to grow & their in focus so perfect for me

Hi Alan, I love the little seedling, somehow you have made it look really small.

It seems to have a fiesty attitude despite its tiny-ness though, come on little guy push on up!

Technically very good Allan, lighting/focus/detail all spot on

The composition bothers me a little, you have done so well with the black background, too well in fact. The musical items just seem to sit there in the blackness. I feel a closer crop would help 'ground' the items.

Cheers

plenty of interest in there, nicely lit, kind of in agreement with Iain on the black bg, Love the range of old and new incorporated into the subjects too...

Still = still life  works for me Allan. I wonder if anyone else has taken the same route?

Beautiful rich black background and lots of ineterst in that. I like the different wood tones and colours.
I wonder if you could have tweaked the lighting to give sort of a spot light effect on the composition and if that would have lifted it a bit???

Very nicely shot.

Ta

Yep, you've done it again Allan.

Spot on lighting. Im sitting here nodding my head in approval. I like that image.

Thanks

Yes I do agree about the BG i did try to get some of the black cloth texture it was sitting on but it looked a bit odd  thanks for visiting Iain

Never thought about a spotlight but its a good idea, thanks Sarah
