Alamy seminar Alan Capel head of content
Ok the Alamy seminar I attended a week or so ago was fairly interesting and I shall try to put down what I considered the most relevant points from it.
Alamy upload this has been tested and tested and they are now in the process of rolling it out to photographers, 150 chosen photographers are currently trying the system. This ability will slowly be given to more photographers assuming no major breaks in the system and Alamy hope to have the system available to all within 6 months.
Leave space around images for text, most of the images sold are for advertising and text etc will be added to the image , Shoot secondary images and subjects, update your current images with more up to date shots of the same scene, buildings and skylines change, Get a good volume of images, Aim for the highest quality you can
Alamy Rank,
This is part of their ongoing research into getting the right picture in front of buyers,
Essentialy whos photos show up 1st, This is determined by many different factors and everybody starts off even in the middle. As pictures are bought that photographers name will be given a bonus, if a photographers picture is clicked on (but not bought) they will be given a smller bonus. This is the basics of alamy rank. It is much more complicated than that and if you go to the Alamy site Stock photography and royalty free images and photos from Alamy there are lots of links etc to new information on this subject. You can split your images up between pseudonyms so that maybe some poorer images arent dragging your main images down.
One of the biggest changes that they have made recently is the required file types, These have changed from 48mb tiffs to Jpgs. On the alamy site there are also now blog entries and a forum soon to start up.
Well I hope that has informed a few of you about how things are moving at Alamy, any questions pm me or ask in this thread.
Cheers Gary
