A Great Start to Christmas Day

Fortunately, our neighbour took himself off to his place of work, outside of the affected area and filled a dozen 5 litre bottles with water and dished those out around our close :)

Good neighbour!

Water is back on :)

We are showered and flushing the toilet!

I’ve been using water from the water butts most of the day :)

A PITA but it could have been much worse! Glad it's sorted.

One thing you can try for your ham, is cook it in cola! I'm trying it for the first time this year :D

Glad to hear your water is back, I know how frustrating that can be!

On the other hand, I did indeed boil my ham in cola, ant no lie, it turned out delicious! Usually the ham is always left on the plates, my girls are not big fans - but this year they lapped it up, it was definitely a little sweeter but most certainly more tender, less chewy

On the surmise you mean normal standard Cola...

The huge sugar content would make the meat sweeter and as for more tender, IIRC Cola has Phosphoric Acid in its formula and I would imagine that would be a contributing factor in the tenderising process.

Does sound like one way to aid paletability:)

Yeah full on sugar cola, Coke is the go to apparently but I'm sure any full sugar cola will do the trick! It felt weird at first, dumping a full 2ltr of coke into the pot, but as I baby sat it over time I could see it doing it's job - most tender ham I've done in years! Finished off in the oven smothered in mustard abd honey - everyone loved it

Ihr per kilo on the boil btw, mine was 3kg - 3hrs in the cola, 40 mins in the oven after with whatever seasoning you fancy
