A cruel way to have your steak "well done" NSFW

....I think we have our wires crossed. I have read all the recent posts. I don't know enough about Steve's comments history in this TP forum generally, whereas you do.

How do you know if Steve is "deliberately stirring and trying to provoke a reaction"? Hopefully you are not suggesting that someone's opinion is trolling if it happens to not be in agreement with the TP populace, or indeed the average person in this country?

Robin, I am not going to argue with you over a moderation decision in public, especially as you admit yourself, you are less than familiar with the history and because it is unfair on both the staff team and Steve himself. Steve is welcome to use the contact us feature if he is not happy with it, as are you.

I don't see the point. It is clear your view of me and the contempt you hold my views. Never mind my participation in other sections of the forum I just let it pass me by. I am a regular in the landscapes section and participate in posting images, threads and giving C&C. I've not seen you comment in one of my threads in there.

....Thankyou :). I'm not unhappy but am merely having an honest and upfront discussion. I respect your decisions as Moderators and welcome the invitation to contact you guys should I ever feel the need to.

So, back on topic...............

That's the reason you're still here.

People always show their indignation in threads such as this. But how many actually do something about it? Are letters being written to the Prime Minister of Spain? Or the Presidents of France, Mexico, Peru, Colombia et al? Are trips being arranged to Jaen, Quito, Nîmes or Mexico City to protest outside their Plazas de Toros? I suspect not.
It's all an opportunity to flex those fingers and inflate the indignation gland having just eaten that dinner of meat bred solely to end up in your belly (that's not cruel) whilst wearing your nice leather slippers made from the skin of an animal bred just to service the clothing and fashion industries (that's not cruel).
Don't like it? Do something about it.

Pretty sure uk abbatoirs don't wrap fuel soaked rags around the horns of imminent kills and set fire to them just for the joy of watching them burn.

I agree. But, what are YOU doing to bring an end to these practices that upset you so much? Other than add to this thread.

Pretty sure uk abbatoirs don't wrap fuel soaked rags around the horns of imminent kills and set fire to them just for the joy of watching them burn.

no - although there have been records of some of them battering animals to death with iron bars because the bolt gun isnt working today (and in one disturbing under cover video playing football with a live chicken ) ... no country is spotless when it comes to things like this

Not sure that is the reason viv. I'd guess it's more about enhancing the danger of the horns. It's not about burning the animal, but that as the animal thrashes around, some sparks etc drop onto the animal. That's slightly different from your emotive interpretation of deliberately burning an animal.

There's a vast difference between spotless and this.

And the only reason for doing this is entertainment, irrespective of where the burning embers might end up.

But hey if that's what floats your boat. ...

I repeat, what are you (or any other of the vocal people here) doing about it?

I have deliberately not voiced an opinion here, and I still won't.

I am starting to get a bit tired of the didactic, sanctimonious preaching that suggests people can't have an opinion on something unless they do something about it.

I have a huge range of opinions, of varying strengths, across wide ranging subjects.

Whether or not I choose to do something about those opinions is my business, and choosing not to do something in no way diminishes my ability to hold, and to express, that opinion.

indeed and twinned with that the suposition that people havent done anything about it - not to mention that posting and vocalising about it being wrong, anhorent, cowardly and a disgrace to a civilised country is doing something about it .. because the morepeople who hear that argument, hopefully the fewer will go to these spectacles while in spain/france/mexico etc and not lend them the credibility of being a tourist attraction

Nope that's absolutely fine chap, but for those with very strong opinions I made the suggestion of doing so something other than simply moaning on a obscure forum.

Thee have however been some interesting points raised beyond the emotive.

We work in different ways. There is one thing in this world that I feel is particularly abhorrent, cowardly and a disgrace. To do my bit, I donate money monthly to three charities that support the victims and help in democratic fight against oppression. To me, that's more worthy than whining about it here. However, you feel differently. As I said, we see things differently.

and you know i don't donate oney to animal rights charities how ? - this is what I mean about supposition , having a discussion on a forum (pretty much what fora are for) doesnt preclude taking other forms of action.

(also a post that happens to disagree with your view point isnt necesarily 'whining' )

Well I never mentioned you, nor did I say anything about animal rights charities. What I was actually asking was what has anyone here done in a stand against bullfighting.

In fact when I wrote "People always show their indignation in threads such as this. But how many actually do something about it?" You hadn't even posted in the thread.

seems to me that what you were saying was that no one should express an opinionagainst bull fighting unless they've taken other action

imo expressing that opinon publically is taking action , but as you ask I have pressured my MEP to raise the issue of animal cruelty at an EU level , Ive signed petitions against it to try and put pressure on the same, and I donate money to animal rights movements who oppose it (peacefully, I don't suppott ALF etc). I havent written to the spanish abbasador as i know that will be a total waste of time

Now who's supposing? I have no problem with anyone having an opinion. Yet some here express extremely strong opinions against it, and as I explained, with something I am so against, I do something about it.

What about those who have a strong opinion that it should stay, perhaps we should attend bull fights to prop up the numbers. It's such a unique thing, an art form almost and I must go see one live to support something I feel passionate about.

So what's stopping you?

The BBC website doesn't read itself

perhaps the powers that be at TP Towers could set up a RSS feed from the BBC Website, thus freeing Steve to take an extended break over in Spain and immerse himself in the culture, and take some photo's of the landscapes over there while he's away... perhaps turn it into a 365 project... and give us all a break from reading his bilge for a year.

Do us all a favour, Steve, participate in the bull running or go stand in the middle of a ring.

he'll be alright - if the bull gets too close he'll simply shoot it in the face

I dunnoi there seems to be quite a lot of bull in certain posts

Can you please tell me where I said I was frightened of pigeons. I think my view on them is that of the law, people shouldn't feed them.
Does the law actually state that its illegal to feed them though?
