A bit of fun - WORDLE. (NB, US spelling!) No spoilers please

4 for me.

xyyxy was a decent start which turned into an xyygy. Juggling turned that into xgggg, having guessed wrongly between the 2 options I could see.

3 again today 3Y, 4Y, and with the placing of the yellows and the eliminated letters there wasn't many words I could come up with and for the second day I pick the right one 5G.

2 today.

It didn’t look an exceptionally good start with only one correct letter and the rest blank OXXXXX, but WORDLEBOT says all but 24 words excluded!

4 for me.

xxxyx, xgxxx (all new starter), xgyxx (starters combined!), ggggg.

Another 3 today that's 4 in a row, a start of 1Y, 1G, didn't look promising but I could only come up with a handful of words and again I chose the right one.

Do what one of my golf buddies does - CHEAT! He does it on his laptop then, when his kids tell him their scores, he beats them by one!

I really don’t understand anyone that cheats. I just can’t see the point.

Only to wind his kids up. I should point out that the kids are in their 30s!

5 for me today.

xxyyx, yyxxx, xyyyx, new starter found gxxxx and led to the discovery of that elusive ggggg!

Interesting point!

There’s cheating & cheating. There is or was a site that posts the answer to WORDLE every day which is pure cheating but would suit @Nod ’s friend who’se cheating is more of a prank or what Stephen Potter (if you’re old enough!) would call “oneupmanship”) and then there’s another that allows you to enter letters that are or are not in the word and makes suggestions. When I looked at it the lists seemed to contain a lot obscure words and many I didn’t recognise and that I doubt are in.the Wordle list so it would be more like looking for inspiration.

I’ve been forced by NYT into having a Games subscription. I always liked their “Spelling Bee” and I think it’s the best of their games. However previously on the free version I could only get to “Solid”, their 5th level before being automatically cut off — usually gratefullly as I seemed stuck and marvelled that people could find another 50+ words.

However, since doing the full version I’ve got to the 9th “Genius” level each day which sometimes leaves another 2 or 3 words to get. Always nice to be called a genius however undeserved!

BUT unlike the other games there’s an official community section where people post clues (“crossword type”, spoilers not allowed, moderated) and most days I’ve only got to “geniusl with the help of clues. Is that cheating? I don’t think so.

There are some pretty obscure words and also annoying “wrong words”. Eg SNAFU is allowed but AWOL is not despite their both being military acronyms and SNAFU is slang and AWOL official!

Today I would never have come up with NENE but in the clues there was “Hawaiian Goose” which had instant recognition from me. Not sure why I know this not being a birder — didn’t Slimbridge have some? Anyway, is that cheating?

Sorry, OT rambling!
