I did the same yesterday - by guess three I had 4G. I tried a 4th guess and failed.... then used a word I knew was wrong, but used all but one of the other possible letters I could think of, and that gave me the answer on my 6th guess - phew!!Not quite. Sure what you mean but I think that’s effectively what I did today. In “hard” one usually has less choice but when I blamed the first line I used a word with all the 3 missing vowels knowing it would be unlikely to be the winning word.

2 today. Very lucky first line left only 2 possibles (wordlebot agrees) and for once I chose the riight one![]()
A rare 2 for me today. xyxyg and a moment of thought!
Funny thing is that I’ve had a run of blanks with my usual starter lately and before entering it today I thought “by the the Law of Averages* I should get a lot of non blanks today” and it happened... and I thought I had done so well, that will teach me to be smug!
1G, 2Y
5G
As I said (I don’t think it was a spoiler) “Slightly tricky assortment of letters”!A 5 today but I struggled just to find letters 1Y, 1G, 1G which I managed to turn into 2G and with more than half the alphabet discarded I could only come up with one word (which I'm pretty sure they've used before) 5G.
