A bit of fun - WORDLE. (NB, US spelling!) No spoilers please

  • Thread starter Thread starter Nod

3 this morn, had first, 2nd and last letters green on 2nd guess

Oh well a 5 today. 2G, 2G, 2G 1Y, 4G, 5G. Narrowed it down after the 3rd guess just pick the wrong word for my fourth.

They are still “polishing” it but now they have ads and sometimes offer of a “free game” but if you click on that it wipes out your stats — at least it did with me, very annoying.

What site are you using? The original site doesn't have any of that:

Ah, I’m using https://wordlegame.org/wordle-in-english-uk. Which one is fake?

I’ve never seen the one you link to. I think I got to https://wordlegame.org/ from a link in the original news story (Guardian?).

Thanks, I’ll have to research this! I know Wardle didn’t copyright his game so there must be a plethora of them. “Mine” is much more complex ( 4 to 11 letters, challenges and so on) than yours and as I said constantly evolving.

I see that is the correct original site as it’s Josh Wardle’s web site! So I’ve been doing an imitators — though far superior site, but maybe a scam :(.

So first go on the proper site (
If you're seeing scammy ads on the copycat sites and elsewhere, you might want to install uBlock Origin in your browser. Here's the official site (there are copycats of this too!) with links to the installers in various browser add-on stores:
They are not particularly scammy, just the usual kind of graphic links which I don’t usually ‘see’ (iPad).

So my first go on the correct site today was a 5 — 2B,2B,3O,3O,5O.

Used all my lives today.
On the fake site I’ve been doing it also has a choice to 4 letter words and I have the impression that‘s more difficult than 5 as I’ve often had several choices for words on the last row ;(.

5 for me today. Still, that's better than I did yesterday!!!

I've had the original non-advert site booked since I started in this thread, handy, one click without a search gets me there each day - also it's the only way to keep a streak going by using the same site each time

3 this morning, blooming US spelling came to my rescue!

4 today.

Zero
Yg
Ggg
Gggg

A 3 today, got of to a good start which helps. 3Y, 4Y, 5G.

4 for me too.

5 today. Hard slog!
B
BO
OO
OO
BOO
OOOOO

I'm bad!

One of my golf buddies is hooked and is having problems with today's word. I told him that there are sometimes repeated letters... I wonder if he knows about the other things. Should I tell him? Maybe tomorrow!!!

1y, 1y, 3y, head scratch for an hour or 2, 5g.

6 today ... 2Y, 3Y, 4Y, 4G, 4G ... sits and has cup of tea and a think ... 5G

And now for something completely different:

️ wikitrivia.tomjwatson.com

Streak: 17

Best Streak: 17

No words or numbers and not even really dates :)

Edit to add:
The nice thing about Wikitrivia, as the Guardian’s Alyx Gorman says, is it makes you feel smart – you need to have some knowledge of when things happened, at least relative to other things, and having that knowledge confirmed (however trivial) is a satisfying little experience. That has its downsides, too: how could I possibly have known that Rashi, a French rabbi and commentator, was born in 1040? That’s trivia for you.

Apparently, as "proper" spellers of the ENGLISH language, we shouldn't be getting today's word.

Doesn’t that count as a spoiler?

I don't see that as spoiler, we all know by now that US spelling is in the mix so you should be considering them either way

I’m not making a point out of it but … it’s possibly a spoiler as it tells you todays word is a US variant ;)

Sorry guys, my fault. I‘ll think about my posts a lot harder next time

That does narrow it down a bit I guess. I knew after the third attempt it had to be, if I'd know from start I'd have gotten it in 3 rather than 4 so not a great difference
