*** 7D Firmware Released Today*** Inc Video!

Cool. My card is 90mbps, so hopefully i'll see a decent increase too.

That's what i've just uploaded to my camera and it's the same features.

I must have miscounted before when I said I got 22 before the upgrade.

After the upgrade I've got a consistent 27 in large raw only and 19 in large raw + fine/best jpeg (with 90 mbps card).

60 RAW burst?!

That's over 7 seconds continuous at 8fps... I don't think the 1D4 can manage even 40 in a burst @ 10fps.

yep, got to 61 then hesitated - full res RAW

(lens cap on make any difference?)

My camera shoots quicker with the lens off, so if yours shoots slower then maybe it's giving the card longer to buffer/clear the files.

Also, are you doing it on high or low speed continuous?

I can only assume you're doing something different or wrong - haha.

Put new firmware onto CF card. Just waiting for camera battery to fully charge :)

lol

done it again, high speed continuous, cap on - hesitates and says busy after 61 shots but still keeps going

yeh quicker fps with cap off

done with lens set to manual focus and hesitates after 33 ish this time

either way, pretty irrelevant as you'd never need more than 10 - even when im doing sports events lol

I've downloaded it and apart from the fps increase, it does the cooking, hoovering, and makes me more attractive to women.

OK I lied about the hoovering :D

Thanks guys, forgot all about this. Now updated, no smoke from inside camera or blank screen syndrome :hug2:

Always an omg moment when the screen goes blank when it reboots

Daft question potentially, if I do the update with 75% battery am I running a big risk by not having it fully charged, as per instructions? I'm impatient and don't want to wait to charge it to 100% :p

I updated mine with a battery level of 80% and there were no problems at all!

Just updated - pretty painless.
Fired off a burst of 25 before the buffer filled - sorted!
Mike

Nope, it no likey! Got the dreaded error message - "Update file error. Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again."

Going to use a different memory card once the battery's charged... Camera still appears to work for the time being though! I haven't got a £1,000 brick on my desk :p

Dont forget to format the card first

Nice, managed 24 frames on auto-iso before it ground to a halt.

This increased burst rate is a real boon, as is the ISO limiter in auto-iso, it would have been nice to include an auto-iso safety shift like in tv/av, que sera, can't have everything I suppose :)

This 7D Version 2 FW update makes you wonder if any other recent Canon cameras have the potential for an upgrade on this scale or is there just something special about the 7D.

I would have hoped they could have put intervalometer capabilities on as well :(

No joy with a fully charged battery and 2 different (formatted!) memory cards, so it's now doing it via EOS utility connected to the mac... 81% and counting, seems ok so far!

The best new feature for me is being able to set a Max ISO limit.

RAW buffer has also increased from 16 to 26 frames with H mode shooting at 1/500sec ISO-100, with a Sandisk ExtremeIII card. As the card is only 30MB/s rated, it seems that the cameras buffer itself has been improved upon, rather than the interface speed towards the CF card.

I doubt that I will use any of the other features, but it's better to have them than not.

Well done Canon!

All sorted, a sigh of relief has been sighed :)

I'm looking forward to trying out the video audio level adjustments!

It's pretty weird that very simple features don't make the camera firmware, like:
- Intervalometer as mentioned
- Motion detection & automatic shooting (at least in live view)
- Display of focusing distance on the screen (not all lenses have distance scales but a lot of them report back distance information for the flash exposure math)
- Display DoF limits based on aperture & fl
- Automatic focusing to hyperfocal distance
- etc etc

My other gripes are that GPS and Wifi accessories are HUGE an expensive clumps for DSLR while pocketable compacts squeeze them into existing designs (not to mention eye-fi).

I would of thought it quite easy in this age of miniaturisation that they could manufacture a battery grip that could accept a GPS and/or WiFi "Plug-In" modules.

Anyone noticed any improvement in focusing. I was just wondering if they had slipped an update in here without officially having accepting that some people have had problems.

How long does it take from actually starting the update from the camera menu screen until it is complete?

Canon make WFT-E5B Wireless Transmitter and GPS Bluetooth but £499  http://SPAM/c6fvtb9

I meant a standard battery grip that apart from taking 2 batteries would also accept Mini Plug-In Modules for GPS and/or WiFi.

Could only update firmware on my 7D from EOS utility. Try as i might the camera would not recognise the updated firmware file on various cf cards. Downloaded update various times from US site and UK site but didn't work. And i did format the cards in camera and made sure it was in the 1st folder on card:lol:
Just letting people know in-case they have the same problem.
