weekly 52 in 2013: Brian of Bozeat : COMPLETE

 words escape me Brian!

I think its all been said above, you sir have a head full of magic when it comes to some of these themes.

Mrs B of B deserves a medal for posing for you, good on her for being a great sport.

Photographically, its bang on theme, funny, disturbing all rolled into one.

OMG......

your other half deserves a big :clap:

as others said very  but equally

Cut, now you're showing off :D

Lovely colours, especially in the propeller tip. Good detail int fe propeller and the text is nice and sharp.

I'd like to see a shallower DOF and it's a pity you couldn't exclude the lower right support bar.....thingamabob :D

Cheers.

Thanks chaps, re: the strut... I could clone it out, but I like it! :)

nice one Brian - the cream colour and the orange really pop against the background greens.

I'd be willing to say cloning out the strut wouldn;t actually be that easy.. and I think the shot would be the worse for it. Leave it in, it helps to make clearer what the shot is.

Thanks Graham, I agree the shot would not be the same without the strut, or the wing above, which is why I chose to include them.

Hi Brian

I am sure the prop is 100% on theme but I am having a real struggle to understand why, I know its me being thick :bonk:
So could I have an explanation please as its bugging me why I cant work it out  is it the different colour wood?

As for the pic, like the exposure and its lovely and sharp

Thanks Allan.

A Propeller has blades, blades cut.

It's as simple as that. :)

Hi Brian,
I will second keeping the strut in but, there's always a but, I would crop the top part of the frame, removing what I assume is the wing so as the propellor is less central.
It is bang on theme, i particularly like the subtle colour tones over most of the image with the vivid colour of the end of the prop drawing the viewers eye.
Good work

Hi Brian,

Sweet, definitely a little disturbing, but it also made me laugh! I could not do that as I would end up eating all the props!

Cut, I like it but then mine is aviation based as well  I'm not sure on the strut bottom right, I think if it has to be there then it need to be in focus!

For speed you shoot a slow aircraft? Nice motion blur in the prop and background and even eye contact with the gentleman in the front seat

Hi Brian

Curve - good focus, details and angle. Partic like the muted colour palette
Power - quite hard to get all of the elements to coincide. The biggest drawback is the grey sky but I like the idea of the diff aspects of power from the Parliament, to the plane to the flag.

Solitude - super 'empty' landscape. Zig zags work well and like that sheen on the lower part of the shot.
Sweet - humorous and disturbing at the same time
Cut - central elements are super - sharp, contrast , detail and colours - but the strut and wing don't add anything for me.

Speed reshoot - nice plane

Sweet, nice of your o/h to be so patient but where's the red liquorice hair.

Cut, great focus on the blade.

Speed is a good pan, just a pity you couldn't get the props in a full circle. It's a good image though

Hi Brian

Speed reshoot....had to giggle at Marsha's comment re shooting a slow plane  Like the shot , good blur in the prop , lovely muted tones & even some eye contact  Would've liked a little more room to the lhs for it to fly into

Cut....nice n sharp with good detail in the wood grain & the pop of orange .....in the un-decided camp over the strut but , as you like it who I am to argue :-)

Live wire

As a border man, you've done well here. Suits the overall calmness of the photograph. Lovely colours in the sky and nice detail.

Phones, eh, they'll be the death of the DSLR.

Cheers.

Great series Brian - how on earth you manage to come up with some of these ideas I don't know.. but all very well executed

Think i'll dump my camera and get a camera phone. Good colours in the sky.

Thanks Alan & Andy, it was a case of "the camera I had with me" was the best one for the job. Editing it on flickr was just an experiment, a bit "instagram" perhaps but not too bad I think. Does make you wonder eh?

Thanks Marcus for your very kind words.

Have you thought of doing a '52 yourself? Perhaps you could join in with this years to see if it suits you?

Mostly it is inspirational - Sometimes it can be more "stick" than "carrot" though, if you know what I mean :D

Thats a nice take on Live and the colours are great, can I ask how much post processing was done or are iPhones as good as I heard on static objects?

Im currently doing the 365 Challenge matey - 18 days into it so far - its hard work but I am enjoying it

lol, now that it is - which is often why I'm behind!

Still it is very good at motivating and the shame of being behind (which you;d have thought I could live with by now) really does get you going again.

Love the sky.

If you could've moved so the wires were leading out of the sun it could be fantastic or horrible ;) depending on the light.

Love the colours on the Live wire shot. What's Aviary, can I ask?

Hmmm, in my excitement I see that I have slightly misled you all! - I took the photo using the CP Pro app which allows you to meter and focus on a specific part of the image. (I chose the sky) I then cropped/straightened it, boosted the contrast, structure and saturation using snapseed (another iphone app) - after uploading I decided that I didn't like it without a border - especially on flickr's black background - so I used flickrs own Aviary editor to add a border.

Very different to my usual workflow of Nikon + Lightroom (& occasional photoshop). In fact it took longer to write this reply than edit the image! :D

Thanks for your comments. I was up against a hedgerow. Brighter versions lost the wires (the link to the theme) ;)

Hi Brian

Really nice colour in live, amazing what you can do with a phone,
only crit I can think of is to lose a little of the black off the bottom and a bit of a crop to the right hand side, minor points I know but i think it would focus the viewing point more to the wires

What with you taking shots on a phone & Andy moving to a compact I'm beginning to wonder how long the DSLR is going to last

Lovely shot though Brian ....glorious colors with the lines in just the right place  The frame however I could live without...sorry :'(
