weekly 52 in 2013: Brian of Bozeat : COMPLETE

Hi Brian,

Beginning, wonderful image in every way

Its got it all, composition, reflection, leading lines, subject matter and it tells a little story in itself, great work.

Still, whats not to like about this, a fun, creative and well executed take on the theme

This says it all for me. The swan is well caught and cracking reflection.

Still, yeah, it's a great fun image. I'm sure you could do more with the lighting, subtle vignette, but that may take away from the funness :)

Cheers.

Congrats on the Explore mister

A good fun take on the theme...all nicely sharp & makes me smile...so a big LIKE FROM ME :D

YAY!

Made me smile. Nice one bud.

Thank you.

Congratulations on explore, it's nice when that happens, sends your stats mad though

Thank you. It has, over 4000 views and 60+ faves (and rising), wish they would all look at my "proper" stuff!

Swan shot is super-duper Brian, having them all in a line is something you just don;t see, the reflection and the contrast between the smooth and rippled water as said really makes it.

hmmm - glad to see your fruit face got explored.... how strange as when I first saw it I took it to be a fun, almost "throwaway" image, but with 3,500 views there must be something in it.

I actually much prefer the second, but even that now is ruined for me as I can't look at the pineapple without seeing those silly red tomato eyes. (Like the processing though).

Saying all that - I still can't suppress a laugh whenever I look at the face, so maybe there is something there. So a YAY from me too..

Are you laughing at my face? Oh, ok then  Thank you. The painterly one was a blend of layers processed in different ways, regular + oil paint filter + hdr tonemap.

 Brian, I'm chuckling away at my desk like a mad woman !!!

That pineapple has really made my day.
I don't think that it's one I'd want printed and hung on the wall, but it's brilliant fun, colourful and creative and I just can't look at it without smiling :D

Thank you. I'm so glad it brought some happiness.

Thank you my friends at work don't understand "explored" at all! They think I've had something stuck up my bum

BEGINNING l like it but, it hurts my eyes! maybe its my monitor but it seems a little harshly bright to me

STILL is very creative and a well deserved explore, well done!
It might suffice for "whimsical" too?....

Beginning - Nicely posed shot that, how did you get them to oblige? Hehe. ;) Shot fits the theme and I'm really liking the reflection in the water too. Spot on!

Still - Haha! Brilliant and well deserved Explore too! :) Only tiny crit would be, I think I'd like the background to be whiter rather than grey? Nice work though, congrats!

Thanks, looks ok on all 4 of my computers (5 including phone) are you calibrated?

Hi Brian
Thats one ugly balloon :D apart from that a nice idea the BG is a little blue don't know if that can be sorted and the top of your head looks a little odd in the top blue section of the balloon, I would have left that little bit out.

Thanks,

I adjusted the WB because it looked a little bit warm, perhaps too much?

and I see what you mean about the top of my head as well, maybe I'll have another fiddle with it, I was a bit uninspired this week and threw this together in my lunch break... lets hope next weeks theme is better.

'Ello, Whimsical, there's been s few shoehorns this week, but not an easy theme.

Good detail in the balloon, shame about the sky.

Cheers.

liking the idea - and the effect works, obviously a nicer sky would have helped.... very envious of you having been up in one, see them floating around in the late evenings when I'm out, just as the suns going down and the air becomes still.

Good work on the processing, you look a little sad maybe, you couldn't work out what a whimnsical smile looked like either..

Thanks folks, some good feedback there, I have reprocessed this now with your comments in mind. Kicking myself for publishing a rush job.... Still not 100% happy but hey ho, tomorrow is a new theme!

I've waited for ages to get around to my main plan for this weeks shot - but I was scuppered when the stately home I wanted as a foreground simply didn't work out, I went for plan B but My star trails didn't work either - too many clouds looked awful on the composite. All was not lost, I put the images together as a little time lapse and they looked quite good. They seemed better backwards! Have a look on my flickr if you are interested.

So this is my "banker" shot. I used the similar PP techniques as THIS one from a couple of weeks ago, which I actually prefer.

Week 5 - Space.jpg by Brian of Bozeat, on Flickr

I liked the feeling of the trees reaching up & into the clouds. I think it kind of ties the earth to space, What do you think?

a fire in the sky without burning the trees ;);)

Hey Brian :)

Whimsical - Well what can I say, the nutter appears on a balloon and your avatar turns into a fruity delight

I agree about the WB on my monitor (Not calibrated) and shame about the sky, but a good fun idea mate, nicely done

Thanks Dean.

Thanks Graham, that was supposed to be my mona-lisa enigmatic [whimsical] expression, looking down at the houses. :D

week 24 Process.

First - the story. It was my Birthday on Friday and my daughter bought me a Holga lens for my Nikon, effectively enabling me to imitate a £20 plastic pin-hole film camera with my expensive DSLR.... (I have wanted to try one of these for ages by the way).

So now I am able to to fake the lomography PROCESS... :naughty: for this weeks theme.

I took it for a walk and found some cows. (I  cows me ) It was loads of fun trying to get a good composition that suited the style of the image, it really made me think quite differently and I really enjoyed the different challenge. Anyway, here's my favourite shot. Actually I really really like it!

week 24 - Process.jpg by Brian of Bozeat, on Flickr

A very MOOvin shot indeed !

I love still, it's such a fun shot. One of those pics that you look at for ages before it even occurs to look at the technical aspects... Kinda doesn't matter anyway. I'd stick that up in my kitchen!

Yup... that's whimsical. Nice colours and a good, left-field idea. Not sure what else I can say about it, I'd have no idea where to start with something like that.

 a fun take on the theme Brian, good work on the pp too, thats certainly beyond my skill set.
The vivid colours help the scene along

My only crit, and bearing in mind this is beyond my skills but i think if your face covered the whole width of the balloon or maybe at least faded out more at the sides of your head it would be even better.

Other than that

A bring back memories shot indeed , very well excuted ;)

Hi Vince, thanks for looking through my '52. I really appreciate your nice comments. :)

Hi Brian,
I bet it's great fun in one of those balloons.
Im not too sure about the colouring / white balance / filter for this one though

Thanks (and no need to apologise btw) The white balance has been a nightmare on this one, I think it might be because the balloon was shot late in the evening and my face was shot at my desk under flourescent light on my iphone, well thats' my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Thank you.

Nice idea and well executed. Did you consider using the Puppet warp to wrap your face around the balloon?

And now I'm having nightmare about the sky being filled with thousands of balloons, all with your face leering out of them...

LEERING? cheeky  - I used the distort/displace filter to try and make the balloon the shape of my face, putting my face on a balloon wasn't the plan!

Thanks, this is definitely one I intend to re-work / reshoot. I have lots of options to explore

Hi, Brian, Curves, I was expecting something a bit more risqué form you :naughty:

It's on theme, but not up to your usual standard.

Never been in a balloon before, might have to give it a go.

Enjoy London tomorrow :bat:....Iain will look after you :D

Cheers.

Hi Brian

Beginning - cracking strong lines and excellent dark tones at the front. Just for me the wash and the greenery look a bit washed out by comparison.

Still - all been said - a good fun image.

Whimsial - just that. Almost an emoticon on a balloon. :D Trees and houses let it down a bit - bet it would like really great with just that good sky behind.

Curve - on theme but not your usual imaginative take I feel

Curves? Cant see the connection  Give me a break, I'm hungover :gag:

On theme and I do like the blue ting from the water.

Crit, symmetry is ever so slightly off.

Good recovery

Cheers.

Hi Brian

like it....symmetry ,as per Andy's comment, is smidge off but that's being mega picky .Good detail though , like the color tone ... Would kinda like to see the whole thing to get a sense of how difficult it was to get the shot ?

How was the London walkabout ? Any shots posted ?

Hi Brian

Curve so much better than the other image but as Andy and Lynne have said it looks a tad off slight anti clockwise turn should do it

Hi Brian,

Really impressed with the curve. I can't see the issue with the symmetry personally. Great details and capture.

Power, im not quite sure what to make of this one to be honest. Great swathes of white sky, a tiny plane and Big Ben.

As an image im afraid this one doesn't float my boat.

Thanks for your comments, I "tweeked" curve a little since the other commented, I was scared Graham might see it and it would set off his OCD! :)

No worries if you don't like "power" It's a bit different that's for sure. All comments are welcome.
