52 From Dark Star - 52/52 Texture :) (Phew!)

Thanks for your comments folks and once again I apologise for being slow with return comments! I will catch up today :)

Water....arrgh...I present two - I just couldn't make up my mind between these two so you lovely people can tell me which works best and that will become my 52 for this week :)

I lean towards the leaf to be honest.....

These were both hand held with the Canon 100mm f2.8

I'm tending to agree with you and the leaf shot. I love the DOF, it makes this such an intersting photo! Took me a while to figure out where the focus was, but that's one of the reasons I like the photo so much. Love how the water kind of magnifies and displays the pattern of the leaf. Love it!

I've been looking at the leaf shot for a while and only just realised whats going on - clever! Maybe a bit more DOF would clarify the water drop and make the focus point a bit clearer.

(The peg is doing nothing for me I'm afraid btw)

Good take on theme  from me

Nice work. I like the leaf shot but would prefer a tighter crop to emphasise the water and eliminate the white circle at the top.
I like the peg shot the spider web is cool.

Leaf shot for me too.
Very interesting. Took me a while to work it out, but now I've got there I really like it . . . in fact I like it more every time that I look.

The extreme DoF is working really well for me - I love the way that the leaf pattern is magnified.

Peg shot : I really like the droplets on the line, but the lack of definition in the peg isn't quite doing it for me.
Although I think I would have liked this more if I didn't have the leaf to compare it against

The leaf shot John, it stands head and shoulders above the peg, I really like it, and it's what I was trying to achieve (and failed). I think the peg itself lacks punch, but the rest is quite interesting.

hehe good to see your frisbree, although i read it as glass not class which i dont think would be a good idea.

Out of your water shots , i prefer the peg but their both good shots.

Leaf shot for me too the lack of definition on the peg is just to much of a distraction for me as well. The leaf however is superb.

Friendship...lovely shot, and nicely done...

Fresh Start...nice bit of DOF and very good lighting...

Passion...Well who would have though it of you John...you an enthusiastic Frisbee player:lol: the 70s got a lot to anwser for...

Tour of the States -now I'm impressed...:clap::clap:

Oh and the shot a good-un for me...

Water... again got the be the first one...I love the way the droplet has made the water magnify the leaf...clever...:clap::clap:

My major catch up now :D

Fresh Start - good thinking there John and it really works for me, nice DoF and love the grain of the wood

Passion - I like both of them as you can easily see what they are even if in the first one there's a shallower DoF , and who was a clever bunny (not that I'm suggesting you aren't now ;))

Water - definitely the leaf shot for me as the peg does nothing for me.

A great set of shots and no 'fillers', and now we've both caught up.

:clap::clap:

Thank you for the comments folks - really appreciated especially as I have been so lax in commenting back...I was in Egypt the week before last and this week has been manic at work catching up...I owe so many comments I hang my head in shame :(

I though Egypt would be easy for an Out of Context shot - old and new civilisations etc etc but nothing struck me until I saw this happen and it seemed to fit the theme perfectly for me :)

Not an arty farty shallow dof shot for a change from me :)

Yes - that is definitely out of context!
What is that diver doing in there?

Love the angle that you've chosen to compose the pool with - that diagonal works brilliantly!
Normally I'm not a fan of busy backgrounds, but in this one I think it really works to set the context of the shot.

A case of being in the right place at the right time, but it's come together really well and a big  from me.

John, I love it  that really made me laugh. And there's so much more in the photo when you look closer too. There's some great action in the background - people playing in the pool and a ball captured suspended in mid air. Nicely done!

Very good John, and so on theme...

Great interpretation of the theme..was a tough one eh.
Nicely framed with the diver in the middle.

Jaws comes to mind! Very well spotted and taken

Another great shot from you John - not arty farty at all :D There's so much going on that draws the eye around the picture.

And it could almost double up as Bubbles too ;)

Thanks again guys that really was an oppotunity not to be missed

In fact what he was doing was repairing ro checking some of the tiles I think :)

Here's my bubbles - very hard this and I ended up with a few I liked but this was my pick :)

Bit of a self portrait too I guess :)

Amazing shot. I was inspired by the colours and reflections so tried to create bubbles for about an hour and couldnt come up with anything remotely as good as this. Love all the swirls in the bubbles.

 What amazing oily colours !

Composition is absolutely spot on.It looks so simple but I bet it was a difficult shot to get.

I'm not a big fan of the reflections in the bubbles, but as I found when I tried mine it's a bit of a trade off between getting those gorgeous colours or getting an angle without reflections.

Out of context is a great shot, I laughed out loud!

Bubbles, well you've caught the oil film colours beautifully and there's lots to look at in the reflections too. Superb effort.

Mark

Thats a great photo! Colours you captured are amazing!

Many thanks Conor :)

Jarod thanks - I too took loads and loads :) Easily an hours worth :)

Thanks Sarah - I was in two minds about the reflections but thought it added another dimension so left them in :)

love your out of context pic gave me a good giggle and your bubbles are fantastic :D

Cheers Ruth :)

Hi John...bubbles...

It's a great shot and lovely colours, but I'm not sure about the reflection...

I don't have a clue how you could have done it any other way, but it gets in the way a little for me...:(

Still the theme was bubbles and that fits, so you get a  from me.

I'm with Spartacus. I love the colours on the bubbles but find the reflections just a little too distracting. Having said that, I had the same problem too :( so I don't know any other way you could do it.

Having said that I love the composition and it definitely meets the theme

Cheers Marcus and Jill :) Much appreciated

Still running late everywhere am I :)

Here's my Low Down - spotted on a morning walk - probably overdone the dof again :)

4082461047_86b6e008ee_o.jpg

You might be running late, John - but I'm still struggling to keep up with comments on your thread. :)

Out of context: brilliant - a great example of being in the right place at the right time with your camera AND 'seeing' the possibility for a good shot. Love it. At first I thought the diver was 'stalking' the swimmers, so I'm relieved he was only checking tiles.

Bubbles: Cool - I love the composition and the colours. I think the reflection is a bit distracting, but then I didn't even attempt anything as clever as this, so, imho - it's an excellent shot.

Low Down: This is actually my favourite of the 3 - simple, on theme and, for me the dof is just about right. Any more would be too much. I like the colours, too.:clap::clap:

Jean

Fabulous shot John! Really like the dof on this one. The lighting and colours are cracking too.

It's a cracking shot John, works so well with the dark ground...

I'm loving this one, yes a tad late but brilliant photography can't be rushed mate...:clap::clap:

I really like that shot but would have all the leaf in focus given the choice - at least the front edges. Great colours, as previously mentioned.

Superb bubbles shot John... and an interesting viewpoint of you too ;)... Love the oily colours in the bubbles, and the crisp definition of the surroundings in the first. low down... spot on... good spot, on theme. The colours and crispness of the majority of the leaf are excellent. I'm torn between liking it exactly as it is, and thinking it needs just a touch more DOF...

Bubbles - Cracking shot, smashing colours

Low down - another good shot, bang on theme

Ta muchly for the comments! :D As ever torn on the dof :)

Oooh 1 week behind and a million comments behind (I blame BT who didn't install my Broadband in the Midlands this week! the swine!)

Here's Doom and Gloom - its not too cheery!!!:(
